 Bioware,

I'm really digging ME3 but so far there is one huge problem, the constant disc swapping on the 360 version. I feel you guys really dropped the ball here.

What happened? I feel that ME fans deserve a clear answer for this.

Unfortuately because of the "world map" there is no other solution.

Just something you have to put up with when a game comes on multiple discs.

Yeah, they should just have cut out 30-40% of the game instead.

it's more expensive than moving some things in your house and also there is no way to convert saves to PS3

I still do not understand why I cannot simply install both disks on my hard drive and not worry about this issue. Same issues in ME2, though it was not as badly implemented as it is in ME3. 2 missions and then a swapping of disks? A minor inconvenience though it is, it can get annoying when it happens often.

On the bright side, my lvl 49 (ME2 import) engineer has not had to switch disks in some time. Seems like the intros and first few missions hogged some space. Progress further and the issue seems to go away.

I wonder if they could allow it to played from the hard drive as long as disc one is in the drive via a patch? Does anyone know if this is feasible from a tech standpoint? If so, I believe we should see about getting it done.

Oh come on.. You guys are all giving BS answers when you know it didn't have to be this way.

ME2 was also 2 discs long and you only had to swap towards the end.

Its called "placement". When mastering the discs for the game Bioware had complete control over what content went on what disc. Instead of having all the early missions on disc 1 they have everything mixed up, which is why not even 10 hours into the game your swapping discs.

In my day, we had'em floppy disks! And the really big games'd be on ten disks! And we had ter make sure we stuck'em somewhere dry, clean and away from them magnets, y'all!

becuase even if you install the game the Xbox checks if the disk is inside to avoid people renting the game, installing it, returning it and never buying it

Which is why it is still annoying that both disks do not use the same code to check the system. If I download both disks, it makes little sense to still require me to have the correct disk in the system to play my game. Bioware/Microsoft made a stupid decision that quite literally makes the downloading redundant. I get that I have faster loading times (a blessing in it's own right), but that was not my primary objective for spending time copying the data.

1 code, 2 disks. How had is that to work? Not hard at all, been doing it since the 90s on my Computer.

I'd rather have a HUGE game rather than having it one disc with compression all around.

Heck, if i were in charge it should've come on 3 discs for maximum quality!

What they should work on is maybe after you installed both discs, you only need to use one disc to play the game... Idunno. ;)

@rabidhanar

PCs are set up differently than game consoles. multidisc games are set up on PCs to have 1 install package across multiple discs and 1 play disc. I suppose from a tech stand point it could be done on consoles but thats just not how it is done.

I woudln't call installing the games redundant either. Installation definatly has its advantages. ME3 loads up pretty quick on the Xbox when installed.

Bah, you had it easy, in my youth we 'ad to carry heavy crates of Zip disks with us everywhere we went and switch 'em every 1.5 seconds to keep playin' and WE LIKED IT!

Let people who install the game on the HDD use disc one as authentication on boot up and play the game off the HDD.
Didn't Battlefield 3 do this?

Xio pointed out you can drop the disc swapping down to like twice by leaving the side plots till a certain point. A lot of them will require disc 2 so once you reach a point in the story where you're already on disc 2 the problem should resolve itself.

Just be careful about mission time-outs and you should be fine! A lot of the missions are avaliable early enough though to let you do them early, it just requires a lot of swapping patience.

Hope this helps! Or more important, as always, I hope my advice doesn't turn out wrong.

It probably did if you think about how the game is designed. FFXI came on 4 or 5 disks but there was a lot of duplication because that was the only way to incorporate a "world map".

There is a guide of sorts on one of the other forums which lists where to go in which order to minimise swapping. You may find that useful. No link though sorry.
