As was mentioned earlier...Really, disc swapping was common for many years. Even when the Xbox 360 came out there was still multi-disc games. Worth noting that ME1 and Blue Dragon came out around the same time and Microsoft forced BioWare to compress ME1 all onto one disc and it hurt the game because of it. Meanwhile Blue Dragon was like...5 discs? I just wished if I installed all the content that I wouldn't need to prove I have disc two hard copy.
Constant disc swapping is unaccaptable

Think it was 3. I switched 99% to the PS3 once it was released, is this a common thing with 360 games like something people should be used to doing?
Again, thats where the word EXCESSIVE comes into play.

Maybe you'd prefer we talk about candy and rainbow pooping unicorns instead? I say ME3 can cure cancer. What say ye?

This is what happens with non linear games.Happened at the tail end of the PSX generation as well I believe. It's not as simple as just changing disks at point B unfortunately.
It's been a while but I think my 360 only has a 20 GB HD.

Different kind of game. Cinematics tend to be huge space hogs. I can't speak for Skyrim (still waiting on GOTY) but FO does not have that many cinematic moments where as ME3 is chock full of them.

Skyrim is ONLY 5gigs. A lot of the space that ME requires has to do with the dialogue. It's not MP3 quality dialogue your listening to after all.

Both my friend and I have older consoles that now take anywhere from 1 to 30 attempts to read a disk. The machines are obviously in death throws. The games disk swap screen makes the trial and error of disk reading take longer for some reason.Twice the game has crashed to the dashboard during this ritual.

Have someone take a look at the lasers in your Xboxs. Sounds like they need to be replaced. If they are that old sending them into MS would be a waste cause it would just cost you alot. Better to have someone who knows what they are doing check out and replace the laser for you if needed. I had to replace the laser in my XBox, which was definately out of warranty since it was a RROD replacement and its been 2 years since I got it back.
The first thing you should do is try a CD cleaner disk (that's just a CD disk with a tiny brush) to try and clean the laser. About 20 $ Cdn. Xbox advises against this but if you're not under warranty...
If the CD cleaner doesn't work then you should consider replacing your laser or your disk drive. You can do this yourself, just look it up on the internet -- only tools required are a Torx screwdriver of the right size, maybe small needlenose pliers or tweezers and most importantly some patience (the Xbox covers don't come apart easily and it's easy to break off a tab here and there). There are about 4 different disk drives used by XBox, you need to know which model you have.
Never use canned air to try and clean the laser when it's inside the machine, this just spreads the dust around.
Have fun.
Edit: UNPLUG THE XBOX. NEVER TOUCH ANY METAL PARTS WITH YOUR BARE HANDS UNLESS YOU KNOW ITS SAFE. (Sorry, but people do do stupid things).

I've had to swap 4 times already and I'm only level 37. Started at 30. 4 times in 7 levels. This is unacceptable! Seriously, I've had to swap 3 times in between the last 4 missions. I'm about to go back to the Citadel for only the second time and I'm afraid I'll have to do it again.
Can someone from BioWare please explain why we have to swap so much when you accomplished 2 swaps in the entirety of ME2?

I'm not from Bioware. But ME2 was pretty much linear you do XXX then get a plot level that opens up something else and you swap disks.
I don't have any first hand experience (PS3) but it looks like the way the citadel is the core location is the problem. Between having to load it and the planets that the quests take place on.

What I don't get is I've installed both discs to my Xbox harddrive. I think it's something like 14 GB of data. Isn't that enough that I don't have to switch discs after every goddamn mission?

It's not like ME2. ME2 once you got to Illium you were in Disk 2 until the SM. This one, is area dependent. If you shift to one area your in Disk 2, then you go back to Disk 1, then back to Disk 2, then back to Disk 1. That's the issue. However, it is nowhere near as bad as Baldur's Gate was -- anyone here remember that CD swapping?
Seriously....They can't change it now. Next game? Perhaps. Please? Just make it require disk one to run the game, but I wonder if the 360 copies the second disk not as a contiguous file to disk one but as a separate disk image?
So BW DEVS: pls on the next game for the 360. If it is possible. If not we'll have to deal.

That's why you're getting constant Disc swapping. It annoys me too, but I guess if you see it as to where someone just goes through the story and no side missions It would make it easier for them.
Then there's Multiplayer you got to take in consideration. ME2 didn't have Multiplayer so That probably took a good portion of the Disc Space for Side Missions and what not.

I literally takes 5 seconds to swap out disks. This was the same for ME2.
If people are going to rant, rant about something that is actually worth ranting about...
on mass effect 2 we had to swap disk atleast 3 times and it wasnt constant swapping so it wasnt a problem on me 3 cant say the same. thats the issue alright? and we not BASHING here if you have noticed but people come here just to bash and hate the xbox stuff seriously just dont post here.
It was exactly two times. Disc 1, then disc 2, then back to disc 1. And all side missions were on both discs. It seems like on ME3 all missions are on either one or the other, so depending on what order you do things in you could be swapping significantly more frequently. I don't know if BioWare put too much into the game to fit some of the same content on both or what, but it is annoying.

it will still be nice if/when someone or some site(masseffect, wikia) would put together a list or walkthrough that could detail this for us exactly which missions or planet systems you enter will require disc 2.
as for the PS3 derps, if Sony werent 3 years late to implement their fake achievments after originally stating it would be a dumb phase gamers wouldnt care about and why they didnt include them from the beginning, only to recant on that...similar to what they're starting to do by implementing a premium paid online memberships, i might of played the PS3 version.
as it is, i care more about my achievements since they actually reflect my entire history since purchasing my 360, not 3 years or so into the console's lifetime with a large gap requiring me to either go back an replay all those games again or just not even care. which is what i chose.
that an the fact the PS3 runs entirely off the disc and ill take a few disc swaps with a few seconds of drive spin over constant wear an tear on the drive which itsself isnt immune(PS3's YLOD)
had those issues prior to MS implementing the install feature in late 2008 but at which time i purchased a brand new arcade(which was only $199) to replace my multi-refurbished console that i didnt trust would hold up, an it hasnt had any issues in the last 4 years with me fully installing every title.
given the fact PS3s are still close to $300 retail an dont have an install feature, i dont use it(put it at risk) when i dont have to (crossplat titles)
