So what does EMS actually change?

I had the EMS bar full for the final mission, I saw the fleets doing quite well in space, the ground troops were getting their asses handed to them though.

After activating the crucible (chose the control ending) the reapers left earth and I saw some human soldiers cheering. I looked through the video files and saw there are some labeled "bad". The only difference I saw was the fleet having a harder time in space and the soldiers were not cheering when the reapers left.

So is that all EMS determines? If the soldiers cheer or not after victory*?

*I say 'victory' though it doesn't feel like one but let's not go into that here, already enough topics on the matter.

From what I can gather, it determines which endings you get and if Shepard survives in those endings. The higher your score, the more choices you get and the more likely Shepard will be alive. I had EMS of just under 4k, but Shepard would die if I did the red or blue endings(so I picked green), but from what I gather, 4k and 5k will let him live in those endings. But it seems literally impossible to get a high enough score without doing multiplayer, which Bioware said you wouldn't have to do, but I call BS on that.

EMS also dictates how many end choices you have. If you have bare minimum EMS, you can only take the "destroy" (right-side) option. If you have somewhere in the middle EMS, it opens up the left side for control. If you are super-awesome Shep (like mine was), then you get the final option: "synthesis". The first 2 options have varying degrees, such as the soldiers cheering.

edit-
Your end choices may also be related to how you played the game.  (i.e.: supporting the geth and EDI)

This last thing... it's legit? I supported EDI and Legion all the way (I even cheered when the stupid Admiral Gerrel got killed)

In the end, I can't choose and inmediately Green ending (Synthesis) triggered.

TBH, I'm not even so sure myself anymore.  I've been looking into it the last couple hours, and I've seen vids of ppl with only 1, 2, or all 3 choices.  I can't tell what dictates your char's specific ending.

So you're saying that no matter what, the only thing you can do is synthesize (green ending)?  You don't even get the option to destroy them?  Once th kid stops talking, you should see platforms raise on the right/left/middle.  As I said, I've seen vids (namely
@ 17:30) that show only one ramp coming up, which was for destroy.  Others I've seen show only the right and left ramp, no middle choice.

I didn't know Han Gerrel could get killed, maybe that's because I had enough Paragon points to stop the battle of Rannoch. It felt incredibly satisfying to punch him in the gut though...

Yes If you choose to support Legion and you don't ask for peace (I didn't even remember getting the choice) then the boosted-geth will destroy the heavy fleet with admiral Gerrel onboard.

Yes, No other platform.... Just the central one and no choice, you just run and synthesis begin.... Altough, The boy said to me the trhee choices, he explained deeply (control and destroy first... Synthesis later) the choices and then Shepard just got one path.. Synthesis... I ask you if this is real or maybe a bug.... I killed quarians, suppport EDI, rewrite heretic; maybe that's the reason I only got this choice (The Boy makes a sharp comment on this)... or maybe my stats... TMS over 4000 and EMS 2944. Galactic readiness 50%

Hmmm, if that's the case, then there may be something more to how each of these endings come up. I cant wait to see how its all technically broken down in-game because it seems it may pull from more than just ems. Possibly from key decisions as well. The game knew that you let the quarians die and thought "hey, this guy is pro synthetics/anti-organic, so lets give him synth ending."

Perhaps I had all 3 choices because I had full reputation, helped everyone I could find (rachni saved, geth/quarian peace, etc), and did 95%+ side quests.

Well, I got my reputation overfilled with paragon, saved the rachni (Still don't know why they don't came to the battle)... maybe the peace with the geth... but still not logical, why offer me all the choices and then open only one path?

Maybe it's just a glitch, I should try to hit Timmy's base again and see if all 3 paths appear.

Also, I'm not anti-organic..... just anti-Quarian, and I don't kill them all, I allowed Admiral Koris to run with the civilian fleet and let the stupid of Admiral Gerrel and all their pals die in the hands of the geth... They deserved it.
