I love the circus that is the BSN. It's always amusing to come here.

- My math may not be very good, but I'm pretty sure those files don't add up to anywhere near the final DL size of "From Ashes." This entire topic is pointless.

Sorry if this has been brought up, but if everything is on Disc why did I, and everyone who got it had to download 500 MB?

People always quick to hate these days.

When everybody complained about day one DLC Bioware assured everyone that it was content that was developed after the main game shipped. Now it looks like that is not the case. Every single file relating to the DLC crew mate is on the disc, meaning it was developed before the game shipped. Models, animations, voice clips, UI graphics, Scripts, everything. It looks like we've been lied to.

Right ofcourse. Random dude on the internet posts blog about his findings, he believes is DLC day one. Ignoring the complete fact you need to download a 700 mb file for the DLC!

I've said one story that I got from Bioware. You claim that they lied with no evidence and assumed that the download is just a key that grants access to what's already on the disc (which it isn't).

I never assumed that. I am saying significant part of the DLC was part of the game only the rest of it was developed in spare time by separate team not all of it as they said. Fact that they knew what kind of infrastructure or "minor auxiliary files" for the DLC they need to add to the game before (as they said) they even started work on the DLC prooves that.

nelly21 wrote...

Yes, he adds to the lore.
He is unnecessary for the story.

Just like Tali and her mision in ME2. Majority of content and characters of all the Bioware games are unnecessary for the story.

I wouldn't be surprised if Bioware had somehow 'bloated up' the file to try and fool us.

I wouldn't be surprised if you refuse to admit that you're wrong when someone actually takes a peek into what is actually downloaded and finds game data.

It would have to be game data that's not already on the disk.

If all they did is dummy it out (put a zero somewhere in the file so the disk version can't be read) then this 500mb 'patch' would be that whole subsection of the disk repeated without the zero. It could even be encrypted (thinking about it it probably is) meaning that someone would actually have to decrypt the data and then match it up to disk contents to get to the truth.

My point was that it's theoretically possible, not whether or not it's actually happening - to counter those who're using the simple fact that the patch is big as 'concrete evidence' that it's more than a key.

If folks are asking me to 'prove' that Bioware are just fobbing us off with a 'key' that they've just bloated up (maybe with data from the disk that can be identified to make it look authentic) then I could ask you the same - prove to me that this isn't the case, and that the data in the download is not already on the disk somewhere.

They admitted already that the Voice acting to integrate the DLC into the game was done in advance. That does not mean that all the DLC was complete in advance.

Read the article. It wasn't just the VO and scripting. The models and UI graphics were all there as well. The entire crew member was there, essentially ready to play. You paid for something that included this in the package but wasn't accessable. If you really want to defend that go ahead, but I can't imagine why you would want to other than blind loyalty.

And the whole Eden Prime location and mission? Is that also there? Oh no it isn't. Which was my point.

Of course not, if the DLC had of been just a 108k unlock key it would have been in your face obvious this is nothing more than withheld content rather than extra. So they make a download for some of the data, not enough to cost much bandwidth, but just enough to fool idiots.

Don't say that. Bioware is part of EA. They are just as much to blame for the whole situation. Stop defending Bioware.
They blatently lied to their fans saying that, "Oh it's a special treat" and "It wasn't in the original game". Except for the fact that Prothy was in the leaked script and a part of the the released copies of ME3.

For shame Bioware.

560 mb actually that is much smaller than Kasumi 990 mb or Liara 1500 mb

It's funny how everybody belives some random guy on a blog or some guy on another forum who say that it's all on the disc but not the people who actually made the game or anybody else.

It's like this all the time. If every expert say the same thing but one guy say it's wrong then people belive that guy.

No need to jump to conclusions. Of course the whole DLC business is nickel-and-diming, now openly done, but that doesn't mean there's a conspiracy behind it all just because some guy says so.

Seriously the DLC business is bad enough as-is without trying to paint Bioware as liars like this. As even the blog author states, it's all "speculation."

How can they be liers when they told us all about it months ago? Don't you have to lie to be a lier?;)

two words......

Electronic Arts

"[BioWare] completed the game in January & moved onto the 'From Ashes' DLC... It takes about 3 months from 'content complete' to bug-fix, certify, manufacture, and ship game discs. In that time we work on DLC."
- Casey Hudson, Executive Producer

"The content in 'From Ashes' was developed by a separate team (after the core game was finished) and not completed until well after the main game went into certification."
- Michael Gamble, Producer

Those look like Bioware employees to me.

gtfo EA owns bioware, EA funds bioware, EA makes the decisions.

Bioware NEVER did this stuff when they were on the own. NEVER EVER, not even when they were just apart of the EA partners program... now that EA owns them, bioware is SO different

Some people think BioWare has been better under EA - some people think they are much worse - some people are indifferent.

Regardless of where you stand - there has been a definite big shift in the way BioWare does its business since EA took over - nobody can deny that.

Yeah, I kind of thought that the 600 MB download size was a dead giveway that it ISN'T on the disc. On-disc DLC is usually around 300 KB. Just because they some assets on the disc, does not mean that they just ripped it out of the disc. They probably already have an initial DLC plan in place, and have to put starting points within the main game itself, which they then build upon in individual development after the main game is finished.

The DLC isn't on the disk. At least, not in its complete form. If it were completely on the disk, there'd be more reference than a few files, most of which are less than 1 MB. I think it's clear that they were planning on this being a part of the main game, but time was running short and they had to get the game on disk, so they held it off for DLC. The only thing I blame anyone for is the DLC costing $10, which is more than likely Electronic Art$ being the cash cow it is.
