I think it's shady but if I was in their position I would have done the exact same thing I mean its almost a guaranteed extra 10$ from about 70% of the people who bought the game which adds up if your game sells in the millions.

agreed they are a business and their #1 priority is making money, but to us consumers it's a tragedy and unfortunate milking of an IP.

If was me, I'd do the same as we as consumers have not boycotted the idea of DLC since 2005 when xbox 360 got released and the famous Horse Armor, but NOT buying 15$ map packs etc. If people stopped buying dlc, we would go back to the expansion format I belive of the 90s and early 2000s.  Boy do I miss true expansions, this dlc and yearly release crap is unfortunate.

Oh no this will be a huge fiasco like the Batman Arkham City thing for PC actually being gold the same time as the consoles because of dates on the disk! Remember that one!! No? Neither will anybody care about this in a week move on people you're ridiculous.

Dunno if it means anything to you, but my PC version downloaded an enormous patch for the From Ashes DLC. Downloaded separately. As in, not in the original package.

Make of that what you will.

the point is, unannounced future dlc for me3 is not anywhere located on the disc. The prothean however has animation and voice amongst other things on the disc, the download is the actual gameplay files such as textures and environement specific to the mission itself... (which possibly was cut from the disc to reduce file size on discs, it was two discs after all), if this was true dlc.  There wouldn't be any traces of this dlc on the disc already.

Right because there wasnt any traces of Kasumi or Shadow Broker on the disc when ME2 launched right?

Someone should email him about this, he was right after all. About it being a bad business practice, not about it being on the disc.

I agree completely. I think they would actually make more money going back to expansions anyway, like if kasumi, shadow broker, and overlord where all released in one expansion pack that cost 20-30$ then I think more people would have bought the DLC's. I wish they would start releasing substantial expansions instead of DLC's that last a hour.

Yeah your right, I'll message him on youtube now. I feel like an idiot, backing them up all this time. What gets to me is that Casey Hudson himself claimed it was not on the disc. Shameful

I hate to say it, but the original post in this thread was claiming that the DLC was done after the game shipped therefore it couldn't be on the disc... The statements subsequently posted in here from BW staff just say it was done after the main game was completed, during the bug fixing phase before it was shipped... No reason why it couldn't be on the disc.

Just sayin is all... I mean chill out, it is what it is and as long as people keep paying for it the companies will keep doing it. The only way to stop it in this case for no one to buy the CE and no one to buy the DLC to show that we won't stand for it... You think that is going to happen?! Don't complain out it if you paid for it!

And I don't want this to sound like I am defending BW, I think this sucks as much as all of you, and also don't understand why DLC is on the disk... Also I am only stating above what has been said in this thread, if BW people said it specifiically wasn't on disc, then just forget what I wrote above!

If I remember correctly, they claimed it was finished after it went gold. If that was true there's no way it would get on the disc. I wonder what other under handed things were "wrongly worded" when about the game.

The DLC is also by far the most fleshed out part of the game. The animations, cinematics, and DLC dialogues are in another league compared to the rest of the game.

I've been watching some videos of the Prothean, and I noticed this. He's very well animated, something that can't be said of most other characters.

hey he has some pull thats for sure. Darkness II devs and Kingdom of Amalur devs (even Curt Schilling) are even in contacts with him about their game cause his voice effects their income because of his opinions and the amount of audience he actually has.

What a load of pants OP. It was developed alongside the game, the audio is done first at the same time as the other squad members, and the character animations are done next. They are on the disc, same as Kasumi's audio was. They completed the rest of the DLC after the main game was completed and certified. The download file is NOT an unlock code, it is the remaining data they worked on to finish the DLC, its nothing new - it is nothing they havent done before.

The only thing you can accuse Bioware of doing is purposely creating DLC at the same time as creating the game, but they actually employed and assigned a separate team to make the games DLC instead of diverting resources from making the full game, and the audio and character models have to be created at the same time as the rest of the game for maximum synchronisation. Having it available on day 1 is the only real problem, because people feel like they have to buy it - lets face it who doesn't want it? As it is part of the collectors edition, they decided to release it at the same time so people didn't miss out.

They may have done some dubious things, but this content is not on the disc, only part files. The characters main files have to be, as the character is built with the game.

Stop being so blind, Bioware doesn't admire your fanboyism

A friend just gave me an amusing analogy on this subject.

Hey you just bought a 12 pack of poptarts, you can eat two packs, then you have to put a dollar in the box everytime you want more.

When everybody complained about day one DLC Bioware assured everyone that it was content that was developed after the main game shipped. Now it looks like that is not the case. Every single file relating to the DLC crew mate is on the disc, meaning it was developed before the game shipped. Models, animations, voice clips, UI graphics, Scripts, everything. It looks like we've been lied to.

http://crystalprison...-developed.html

Thoughts?

If this is true, that is pretty MESSED up of bioware. Can't even stand up for them after something like that. For shame.

How exactly is stating the facts as they actually are "being blind"? Now you can certainly object to the idea of day 1 DLC and make a good case for it being free, and I'd be inclined to agree, but that doesn't mean that Bioware lied to anyone.

The excuse never really made much sense to me anyway - at least, it never addressed my objections to day 1 DLC. And I don't think this is necessarily a smoking gun that they lied. I don't see any evidence that the Mission wasn't done late. But it makes sense that a lot of the work integrating the Prothean with the rest of the plot was

edit: But it illustrates the fundamental problem of Day 1 DLC, which is that it requires a lot of trust on the part of the player.

Kasumi? Yeah, her mission banter and such was in the files, and there was a placeholder model of her.  LoTSB? Not really.  That content didn't get used (except one line of dialogue, which was kinda weird because they recorded new stuff for the same purpose and it got cut), and was clearly from a very different version of the same basic "Liara and Shep fight the Broker" concept.  For instance, the audio files make it clear that in the old version, Liara would have just ended up right back in her Illium office.
