The excuse never really made much sense to me anyway - at least, it never addressed my objections to day 1 DLC. And I don't think this is necessarily a smoking gun that they lied. I don't see any evidence that the Mission wasn't done late. But it makes sense that a lot of the work integrating the Prothean with the rest of the plot was
edit: But it illustrates the fundamental problem of Day 1 DLC, which is that it requires a lot of trust on the part of the player.
If the game had been released 100% complete and playable without these traces that things were yanked from it, and they had just waited 1 damn month or something to release the DLC pretty much nobody would have complained. It's the fact that they seemingly seperated something from the main package to squeeze another $10 out of everyone that has people in an uproar. DLC should always be an afterthought. It shouldn't even be planned until the game is launched.

If all the voice and animations are there, what was stopping them from putting the textues or whatever on there?

Whoa! I didn't write that!
But, if the textures, maps, etc. was what I downloaded, then their explanation still makes sense. Include what was already completed in order to make the download smaller. People are already complaining about having to switch between two disks. I don't have that problem since the PS3 can read bluray. But the download speeds are horrible. I had to leave the PS3 on overnight to finish downloading the 528 meg file.
I can't imagine how long it would have taken if everything needed to be downloaded.

Game developers are becoming more and more uncaring. Bioware seems to be joining that crowd sadly.

plus a 1hour sound track, a Comic, some Art of Mass Effect... art... also the N7 weapons, which after 20 hours I'm still using, and not to mention Javik(the Prothean squad member) is the most bad ass mofo to hit Mass Effect since Wrex. so yeah, a little more than 30 minuts of Gameplayandroid654 wrote...

Intelligent people can debate the pros and cons of this kind of thing and ultimately come to different conclusions.
But you are a fool if you think this content was not deliberately developed for the sole purpose of getting an extra 10 bucks for the game.

The DLC is only $10 and the comic is $1.99. The sound tracks already in the game and the art is on google images. So I guess n7 weapons for $8.00

I find it interesting that all the arguments attempt to both argue that he is "essential to the plot" but yet "only 30 minutes of play and not worth extra money".... you can't have it both ways, either he's valuable and worth purchasing, or not so don't get him. Personally, I would have been fine with it being CE only, but now its available for everyone and people are complaining about that... sigh
He isn't essential to the plot but his dialog is important to the entire series his mission is short about 30 minutes. I think hes worth the $10 if your a fan of the lore in Mass Effect but otherwise he isn't really worth it.

Day 1 DLC like this is a marketing plan from the get go.

This.
It was a marketing scheme from the beginning. The most insulting part was that they had the audacity to promote it before the game was even released. If they were clever the least they could have done was hold it from the market place for a month or so. I suppose they figured most people will just buy things blindly if the attach the name of an existing property to it.

What I don't understand is if bioware was really trying to "trick" you into thinking the DLC came after the game went gold then why didn't they remove all evidence of the DLC from the disk lol. Maybe when they made the comments about the DLC being made after the game what they ment was the mission was made after the game but the character was already done.
I don't think they wanted to comment on the DLC at all. Then word got out that it would be day 1 DLC and they came up with "It was all done while the game was in cert" as damage control. I'm fairly confident the mission itself was in fact mostly worked on during cert, but the fact remains that the crew member was done before then, and they sold the crew member as part of the DLC package.
Let's say removing the DLC character's files from the game before shipping it was impossible or impratical because of how it is integrated with the rest of the game. Would being up front and telling us that the crew member was on the disc already but unplayable have cost them some sales? Maybe, but it would have been the honest thing to do.

Yup, same principle but Kasumi wasn't day 1, the character model was just a place holder (so that was presumably unfinished at the time of release) and she was arguably not as interesting or as entising as a protheon. ME2 also came with a free character that could be used for the entire game as well.
But yes, same principle just pushed a little further this time.

It's Bioware's game, not yours. remember that and you'll do well. Bioware had the decency to give you a new game, and you find all the most minor problems with it and go against the developers? Welcome to life, grow up and quit complaining, If you don't like what Bioware does, then stop buying their stuff. No-one's forcing you to buy the DLC, and absolutely no-one is forcing you to get the game. I'm sure there are hundreds of other companies out there who appeal to you, or have you already found problems with each of them and refused to buy from them unless they do something about it?
be grateful for what you have, not what you don't have. I get "tricked" by my internet provider on a weekly basis with far deeper consequences than what you show. I haven't refused to use them any more, nor have I gathered a bunch of similar thinkers and shouted at them, primarily because no matter what I do or what I say, nothing is going to change what has happened or make it go away.
