I just read the "article". Looks like the character and voice work were done within regular development and everything else was done after. He's basically found the character model, voice work and HUD files.
How the eff are you supposed to get the squadmate?! Magic? No you have to go somewhere to get him, perhaps a story related location which was done AFTER regular development, hense not on the retail disc and the 600 Mb download.
Which means everything that Casey Hudson et al said was true. Just because you modeled the character and did voicework doesn't mean the DLC is complete.
BSN at it's best as usual.

Exactly. It's the usual gaming forum hysteria.
Gaming forums becoming about as reasonable as Truther usegroups for a while before and after a game's release. It'll take a couple of months for things to calm down.

I believe the DLC was 800Mb+ rather than 600Mb? I agree with the general principle of what you said even if not exact phrasing. If apply common sense to it then you have to realise they might have started playing around with ideas, concepts, compatibility and audio early on because they intended the CE to come with an 'additional character and mission' to begin with. But what common sense also implies is that what Bioware said is probably quite right in that it was not finished by the time the core game went into certification.

uh no........ those are the main files on the disc in order for him to speak, or have annnyyy animation. those files could have been included in the download, but however we knew about this dlc 9 months ago. which is Bull****tingly obvious it was cut from the game and sold for profit. Just wait till you see how all the squad mates and world interacts with prothean, it's not like zaeed where noone gives a **** about that guy

So BioWare did not lie technically. He is not part of the main plot, and was nto fully developed to be, but some bits of it are in the main game to make assets easier to transfer via DLC. The DLC unlocks it, and the DLC was made after certification was filed in December I believe.
This article is just cherry-picking facts basically.

the thing is the dlc would probably be a massive size if they didnt have the relevant files on the disc
nope the filesize on the disc is only couple of megs if that. It's mostly code that triggers a script or some other sort of thing.. except for what's in the encrypted files with word prothean attached to the disk, we don't know whats in there unless someone cracks, which they will... People already fully editing the coaldes.bin and repacking it back together.

The DLC files were bound to be on the disc, but was probably not finished, at least not in it's entirety. You have to remember that the description that was on the EA wesite last year (for the Collector's Edition) clearly stated the character being Prothean (before it was promptly removed) so I'm guessing a lot of the ground work was already done in order for this information to be posted.

I think he meant the npcs ingame don't even bother talking to Zaeed except a few such as the Blue Suns during Garrus's recruitment mission and well I can't think of another place.
Zaeed is awesome.

Yeah. Bioware told us that they have to plan the DLC before the game release so that the voice, banter with other characters and animations work later on. It's not the complete character. And Eden Prime isn't on it at all.DarthShadow13 wrote...

You really think the DLC would be 700mb large and not have any content?
It was the same with Zaeed and Kasumi in ME2. Thier audiofiles and animation was already in the game.

Blame Bioware. They are the ones who desided to have the importent files on the disc to make it work smoother and be less to download.Face Melter wrote...

pretty sure ea is the reason prothean wasn't just an included squad member.

Towards the end of a project, there are more people free to commit to specialised tasks. Some or all audio was recorded alongside the main game as the script for Prothy was finalised alongside the main script; probably with the intention of creating this DLC once the game had reached a stage of development where that would be possible.
In his state as defined by those files in the article, he would be functional as nothing more than an in-combat party member. You know what other characters would be functional as such? Every character model built on the same skeleton. That's more than 80% of the characters in-game
You want Conrad Verner on your team restricted to pistol? You got it. That's how simple it is, if all you want is a working skeleton textured with [character of your choice]
Look how many character models are in the game. Do you think each one of those took three months to complete?
Do you even have any idea how the files in the article are used? Grow up.
