That picture is rediculous! It literally is just a human photo shopped with lines on her face and glowing eyes. The fingers look sloppy as all sin, and it doesn't even make sense from a lore perspective she's out of her suit completely, wearing like a scarf or something.

It's funny... everyone was in love with this picture of Tali when it first showed up, talking about how beautiful she is and how Bioware got it right. Then someone finds the actual pic and it's just one more thing to add to the overflowing mountain of ME3 rage and hate.

I admit it's a pretty lazy photoshop, but can't we all just accept that this is what Tali looks like, and move on?

To be fair... this IS what stock photos are for and I'm not "bothered" by it at all with one exception. Her fingers in the photo are WAY too close together.

I didn't play through my Tali-romance Vanguard Shepard until my second run (my first was with my Soldier who'd romanced Miranda, kind of disappointed with that one).  Right from the get-go, I was loving how Bioware was handled it.  Everything that I loved about Tali was still there.  The awkwardness, overshadowed by her strength and resolve, progressing into a clear sense of confidence about her own abilities, as well as her relationship with Shepard.  I also totally dug the hilariously/moronically cheesy flirting going on between the two (and how Kaidan was so unfortunately caught in the crossfire).

And when Shepard gets out of the truck to face the Reaper alone, when Tali says, "I love you" and Shepard says, "Keelah se'lai," I was just thinking, "Yes.  **** YES."  I found myself smashing my head into my desk in disappointment when Tali didn't show her face on the cliff because I had heard that you get to see her without her mask in ME3, but I perservered and discovered that she had left a surprise in the cabin.  Only vaguely disappointed that it wasn't another sex scene, I pressed the space bar to examine her photo with unprecedented excitement and HOLY CRAP IS SHE HOT.  I mean, just, wow.  Friggin' sweet.

And then I decided to visit these forums so that I could totally celebrate with my fellow Tali-lovers in honor of our favorite quarian's total hotness.  But then I discovered that the picture is just a stock photo that had been touched up to look less human.  And then I realized that I don't really care.  Tali's absolutely beautiful (as I knew she'd be) and it just gives me a weird sort of joy to have that confirmed.  I really do get why a lot of other people are disappointed that a more original design wasn't created, but honestly, I'm just glad that Bioware showed her face at all (and that she's hot).  It just seems like the level of vitriol about the whole issue that I've been reading is rather disproportionate.  I will admit that I am a bit disappointed that they didn't make her hand look more quarian.  I hope that they release a patch or something that fixes that.

TL;DR: I love how hot my virtual alien girlfriend turned out to be.  It's perfectly understandable to be disappointed by the photo, but saying that you're "absolutely disgusted with how Bioware's treated Tali" and actually calling Bioware a bunch of bastards seems like a bit too much hate over so small an issue.  Maybe I just spend too much time on these forums.

A lot of the problem, I think, was that Bioware opted to be a tease on this subject in ME2. The scene at the culmination of the Tali romance in ME2 is staged in such a manner that you're led to believe you're going to witness what she looks like under the mask right up to the point that they cut behind her as she leaps on Shep and the scene starts fading to black. There were only two possible justifications for the way it was scripted: Either Bioware liked tweaking the nipples of its players, or they were investing players for the Big Reveal that'd surely come in the finale. Because there has never really been much evidence of the former, folks generally concluded it was the latter, and had their expectations set that there'd be a climactic moment where we'd finally get to see her face.

Coming into the game with those expectations...well, of course the photo is a massive letdown. Especially when there was the perfect scene for that on the cliffs of Rannoch during the climax of the geth/quarian arc. And salt is rubbed into the proverbial wound by the horrendous quality of the photo: The lens flare from the star in the background and the washed out colors deny the viewer any appreciation of the details of appearance beyond that she's quite human and is very attractive. And then there's the litany of other complaints about the quality of the photoshopping and the oodles of Fridge Logic.

As someone who's been particularly torqued by this, I think that it feels so half-assed is the real problem. I suspect there'd be much less vitriol had we gotten a photo in which such rudimentary details as her eye, skin, and hair color could be determined more definitively than "dark"/"not dark"..

It doesn't bother me that this was how they decided to reveal Tali's "true" look to fans, and it doesn't even bother me that much that Tali ended up looking so human. What bothers me is that they didn't even hire their own model or just create an image entirely on their own, but instead edited a stock photo and decided that that's what she looked like. It just lacks creativity.

I kinda liked it... who cares where the "stock" photo is from?

"OMG. they used voice actors instead of synthesising NEW and original voices ... how lazy!"

My main problems are:

1. Hair? Quarians have hair? Seems unlikely.
2. Fingernails? And red ones? They couldn't even filter out the color?
3. When, where, and how was this picture supposed to be taken?
4. You can't see it very well in the game.
5. The hand is too small and out of shape.
6. Everything else.

This was the problem no matter how they showed tali people would complain.

I think it was pretty good happy medium ground keeping both sides happy.

Some people wanted see her face

Others did not.

So they went with a picture it was best thing to keep both sides happy if she was in game with her mask off people would been even more pissed who wanted it to be up to us what she looked like and people who wanted see her would been pissed if we did not see her face in game. So the picture is half way between fully seeing and not seeing her for both sides of the argument.

No no no, you sir are totally wrong. This is NOT an acceptable middle ground. The easiest fix for the whole debate as someone already pointed out I think is to have a conversation before the sex scene where Tali says "she is used to you and won't get as sick anymore" (she already says that at some point) and then asks Sheppard whether he wants to see her completely (risking sickness) or let her keep the suit on and only take the mask off (for "safer" sex). That way you get either the full reveal of how she looks like or you get the same sex scene you got in ME2.
That's the way everything is done in ME, letting the player CHOOSE what he/she wants.
If Tali or any quarian can take a picture of themselves in some planet without their suits on the why in all the hells don't they just live there and forget about Rannoch ???????? :pinched:
Bioware completely ****ed this and the final mission up and that is why I won't give them more money and will even cancel my TOR account.

well, im POSITIVE. nothing they did, no matter how they made tali look, talimancers would be angry. there was just no way they were going to make them happy, everyone had such wildly different expectations on what tali should look like.

now, lemme ask a question. if you never found the stock photo that they turned into tali, would you be as mad? like if you never found out where the photo originated from?

hell the picture isn't even for you to look at, its for shepard to look at.

I liked the picture before I knew it was a stock image. I liked it after I found out.

To me the whole issues is pretty much exactly what they have said about showing her face at all. "It's going to be impossible to make something everybody likes."

I thought it was disgusting the moment, I saw it. Before, I knew it was a stock photo.
It was lazy, cheap, and a waste of time.

Like, I've pointed out before, they could have just done a [See Tali's Face] or [Don't see Tali's face] type of just like with Garrus [Hit the Target] or [Miss on purpose]...

That would have been so easy, and then shown us 3D freaking model of her face, possibly on the scene on Rannoch. That couldn't have been better set up for Tali.

Middle ground, something that everybody likes = Not to Human, not to Alien... Obviously. Read above post, for a better way they could have gone about the stupid photo shop image.

^ this.

I believe when the decision was going down in the brainstorm room, they couldn't really decide on what she would look like in the game without a mask....but at the same time they knew they had to do something, or suffer worse consequences for not doing anything.

Maybe they will have a DLC where we see her with a face render in game....possibly when Legion asked had Shep ever seen a Quarian w/o a mask........."well....I have seen one".

I get that some of the Talimancers love the pic because Tali is now canonically "hot".

But really, was it worth it to twist Quarians into a Star Trekian forehead alien race? Just to make Tali conventionally pretty, the whole Quarian race is now just a bunch of humans with wonky legs.

I guess the Asari are no longer the only fanservice race in this setting...

This is just absolutely ridiculous.
They've had 5 years to do something about it, I mean the least they could have done is bought some concept art, and then made it into a 3D model. Lazy bastards.

Picure is fine, jsut put tah face on her ein game and lets see soem dialouge with Shep................  :(

Did people really think BioWare was going to make her ugly or some weird unconventionally "attractive" race? Was it worth it? I think so I guess, I mean if you don't like Tali or Quarians this picture isn't going to change your mind.

Personally I am glad that humans are not the only race with body hair.

The problem is the stock picture, not her "attractiveness".

Lazy move. She takes her mask off two times.

I agree that a little more work could have been put in. That said, the subject of the picture is Hammasa Kohistani  and there are lots of pictures of her so plenty of reference if someone wanted to build an "unmasked" Tali. Something like this might be a good start.

I remember there was some art someone made of their vision of an unmasked Tali that got some popularity, even Bioware liked it. I find it funny that they couldn't just roll with that for a concept for her face instead of having to use Google Images.
