I am interested to see what 3rd party apps/programs people have installed on their systems to see if something is a common factor in all of the problems.

In my opinion I believe the whole issue centres around the Securom client and some software installed.

But can't say for certainty that is correct though.

So if people can post their 3rd party apps and programs and what type of OS they have. At least then it will be easy to see if there is indeed a common problem.

The way I'd have designed it, the date check would check the current world date compared to regional settings on your computer. So if the game is blocked on your computer due to that, it may be your regional timezone settings.

Hopefully, they'll remove the check once the game is available in all regions.

You could add positive data to the thread or are you going to use this possible helpful thread to vent on also?

Like I said elsewhere Bioware aren't going to be able to help if no information is there to work on. Venting doesn't add information, just saying :)

Well wouldn't it have to programs installed otherwise I have the issue with windows 7. I am not sure exactly sure a listing of everything would help, I mean I have a bunch of programs but none of them directly affect my internet connection.

I just stated that it might be your computer's regional settings causing problems with the date check. That's not helping?

@Maias227 - See this is what I am talking about, nobody is willing to give info to help Bioware figure things out, if you hold back it holds them back helping people.

A program doesn't need to have access to net stuff, a program that has a conflict with part of the game's software or with Securom's client can cause it to not function right.

But without knowing what people have installed then you can't figure out if that is the case or not, if it turns out not to be software then at least thats known and other reasons can be checked on.

@Kira - no it wasn't helpful since I don't have the problem (in the UK - need to wait till midnight) - but I am trying to help others, so adding stuff not related to the topic of the thread is really counter productive.

I am almost certain it's nothing to do with your local timezone settings.

Basically the application sends out an ID containing identification of your program (ME3) and your computer. The DRM/activation server then looks at your geo-IP and activation request and if it is okay according to its database, then you get sent the appropriate decryption key. This way it is entirely independent of the system time/region so it couldn't be fooled in such a manner (though you trivially get around it with VPN).

Also, with respect, if I listed every program I had installed, including drivers, codecs, and services, it would be very, very long indeed.

Thread Title: People having startup issues/date check issues

Stated Possible Problem: Computer's regional settings may indicate that you are located in a currently blocked region when you are not thus blocking the game from working

Possible Solution: Adjusting your regional settings to be accurate for where you are located

Side Note: Hopefully, once the game is available in all regions the date check will disappear entirely

If this has helped anyone, then I'm glad to be of service. If you're just not going to listen to a possible fix due to the words of someone that doesn't even have the game, then I pity your ignorance.

I did a complete wide-reinstall of windows last night and still have the same issues. the only things that were installed then aside from windows 7 were my Geforce 8600m driver, origin, ME3, adobe air, and adobe reader. this leads me to believe that there probably isn't a program conflict.

 Okay I'll bite, I don't really think it will help but I am running out of alternatives as EA hasn't been able to help so far. This is the list Steam compiles;

Oh and I couldn't figure out a smarter way to post the list.

Thread Title: People having startup issues/date check issues  <<< title not topic

As said thats the title/header of the thread, the topic was for people to list 3rd party programs and apps.

To others I don't won't driver files or little browser customization programs :P Major 3rd party apps pls :)

@Maias227 - yeah thanks, quite the list >.<

So far from 2 posts Adobe Air could be the problem, but would need more data to check that fact out.

It probably doesn't help, but I might as well add that I too experience a release date check at random. My game unlocked on March 5th at 23:00 hours (digital deluxe) and about 50% of time when I start Mass Effect the game will do a release date check, it did it this morning when I started it up.
