As quoted from IGN.

There are some inherent problems with RPGs in general that Dragon Age:
Origins does little to address. Enemies feature little in the way of
tactics. In fact, they just charge at you and that's about it.
Obviously defence-favouring foes will keep their distance and that
requires tactics too, but pure dice-based role playing almost always
feels like the tabletop game that the art department is trying to
convince you it's not.

Final review was an 8.4

This warranted an entirely new thread...

That is one mans (a man who apparently wishes this was Mass Effect 2) opinion and i'm sure come tommorow a lot of people will disagree.

To much listening of reviews ... i tend to seldom trust what they say cuz imo from my experiences in the past they are either harsh on games then that i turn around and find no problem with or they werent harsh enough. So i tend to take whatever reviewers say lightly until i actually get to get the game in my own hands and play it for myself .. just a rule i tend to go on.

It sounded more like he wanted a BG3 and Fanboys will always disagree

The Xbox 360 and PS3 versions have dumber AI due to system limitations. The consoles couldn't support having too many things on the screen at once in order to balance difficulty with the PC they made the mobs come attack you in waves instead of requiring you to zoom out(which console can't do) and play strategically around enemy positions.

I believe that review was for the Xbox 360 version of the game. If it was, then that supports what the developers have already told us. I think if you play the PC version you'll have to deal with more strategy based encounters.

They get more tactical the higher difficulty is.

Also, he played the console version which has a smaller limit of enemies on screen. If there are 5 enemies you usually have less to keep track on than if there are 10.

But I have not played it yet, so I might be dead wrong. Remember another reviewer mentioning that enemies don't just rush at you though.

just look at videos, you don't have to be a genius.

there's no tactics. it works exactly the same as NWN. enemies charge at you and combat is basically a confused mess with dice rolls. compare this to combat from say Jagged Alliance 2 or whatever and you see instantly that one is superior and the other vastly inferior

Guys, they didnt dumb the AI down on the consoles, just the number of enemies. And its not like youre only facing 3 or 4 enemies on the console, ive already seen gameplay with at least 10 enemies at a time.

Are you guys for real? If Baldur's Gate had tactical combat, so does this game. The enemies charged blindly there too.

Tactics are used to win battles no matter how stupid the enemies are. When you position your characters to avoid AOE spells, when you place traps, when using the right spells at the right time etc.

And no it doesn't work like NWN it works like Baldur's Gate. Jagged Alliance 2 is a game which completely focuses on combat. Of course they can make the combat more complex.

LOL resorted to attacking the consouls have we?

Sorry but you're just plain wrong they could of handled it just fine and if you need proof look no further than  Uncharted 2.

Well reguardless if they did that than shame on them.

If Uncharted 2 can have a helicopter firing at you, bad guys firing at you all while the building you're in is literally collapsing than there was no need.

To bad the reviewer didnt make his dice rolls and scored Critical misses. (rolling a 1). When black isle closed, interplay took over publishing. Game wasnt ended cuz of them closing, but because the story was finished. and then he makes a nother critical error regarding D&D text roleplay and he makes atleast a nother 2-3. he was a bad reviewer for this game.

Either play it and see how it is for yourself jacks, or don't. You came here with a strong opinion already, that i don't see changing, so why even make this thread other then to try to bother and troll other people, who have been waiting patiently for this game for a long time.

Not the same at all, and Uncharted 2 never had more than 6-8 enemies at once, and the heli is prescripted (or whatever the technical term is)

Oh and i just remembered a dev post that said he saw the PS3 version running with 16 enemies on screen, and he wasnt even sure it was the maximum number. So again, its not like the console versions only have 5 enemies at a time.

Jacks, please lay off the trolling.

You have an interesting viewpoint, but you need to back it up with evidence and rational.

You guys are really going to trust one person's opinion in the review and take it to heart? How about waiting to play the game and then deciding if he was right or wrong. Unless you have played the game and are portraying your opinion after judging the tactics there is no base to your argument as you are basing your opinion on someone else's opinion.

The tactics is in how you face your enemies(your spells, talents bla bla) not the combat itself(no units don't roll about taking cover). The combat has always been straight forward as in enemy see's you it rushes at you(expect for a certain few).

If you really want a tactical challenge use the mod tools and make a customised script. It is mostly in the scripts that determines how enemies reacts to your Party.

meh, its an Xbox review of the game, the enemies attack in waves on the Xbox game due to the nature of the platform, PC is a totally different experience

If the enemies used decent AI and tactics, would the game be fun?

You spot some Darkspawn ahead and send your sword/shield and two-handed weapon fighters forward to kill them. Unfortunately, they trigger a trap that slows them down. Meanwhile, a larger number of Darkspawn rush past your fighters to attack your mage and archer rogue, while enemy ranged troops and spellcasters target your stranded warriors.

Does that sound like funto you?
