Does anyone else feel the homosexuality (and the sexuality in general) is a little forced?

It did feel forced. Felt that way early on in the game. Homosexuality seemed to stand out a lot more than in the previous games. Gay that, gay this. Maybe war made people come out more but seriously... It was more blatant in ME3.

And people rarely complain about "straight this, straight that".

Because y'know... It's 'normal'? Fact is, homosexuality is different, no matter how you look at it, and it was noted more consistently in ME3. If that wasn't true, people wouldn't be noting it. There's a natural homosexuality, and there's a really forced version. Just like those homosexuals who are exceptionally gilrly and FLING their sexual orientation in your face. OTT kind. However, ME wasn't like that.

I like all the people who went "It felt forced to me" and they do not really elaborate on why it felt forced. Just because he mentioned the word "husband" instead of "wife"? Come on!

I actually liked the way that the pilot was handled. It wasn't until a few seconds after he mentioned his husband that I realized "oh, he's gay". That one felt perfectly natural to me, and I thought it was really well done and touching. Maybe it was because I was femShep, so he didn't try and hit on me.

On the other hand, I think some of the relationships are a little over the top. Kaiden in the first game for instance. I'm always nice to him, but take the middle option when any kind of romantic options come up. Yet in the end I always have to kick him away with a renegade option, like he's a puppy that won't stop humping your leg. Seriously? He's a grown man, and unless he's got some kind of personality disorder, he should be able to recognize the difference between someone being nice and someone flirting with him. And most of them are like that.

I still don't see how altogether less than 10 minutes of homosexual content is forced in any way.

There's natural heterosexuality, and there's this in your face heterosexuality. Like when some dude tells me "I have a wife" or "that girl is hot!" it's like ugh, does he have to flaunt his heterosexuality in my face like that. Ridiculous zomg

Been a while since I played SP. I can't say homosexual references are essential points of the game I would remember either, especially considering the horrific endings that have been imprinted on my brain. Again, if it didn't feel this way, people wouldn't be suggesting it. Plus, no matter how small or big, it can be forced. Even with subtle words such you suggested.

It was noted about as consistently as heterosexuality was: The krogan's mate, Thane's wife, Jacob's new girl friend, the couple sitting by the bench at Presidium commons.

Lmao, "normal"? Really? What century am I in again?

I suppose thane forced his heterosexuality on my poor poor homosexual self by mentioning his dead wife.

Please tone down the homophobia and transphobia.  I am sure that I am not the only one who will have reported you for this last set of comments.

That's more transphobia/fear of gender roles being disturbed than overt sexual orientations. Which, usually, transphobia and homophobia are usually mixed.

Which is... fun.

In the ME universe, there seems to be a feeling that all orientations involving just humans are treated as fairly "normal". There is one mention of it being abnormal in ME2 (Re: Morinth and the artist). Most of the time, people's disgust and fear is more related to human-on-alien sex.

So the point is that same sex pairings and cross sex pairings should be noted in passing throughout the series. If it jumped up, then that's good as now all normal pairs are being mentioned.

The Cortez thing felt a bit "oo look here I'm gay!"

Well, at least shep doesn't raise his eyebrows and gasp "Husband? But...yur a guy!!!!"

And then Cortez says in the gay voice "I'm a person just like you!"

So it could have been alot worse. Also, at least not expressing romantic interest doesn't equal "I hate you" like it does in certain other BW games.

As a gay person, I sometimes run into the same thing the op is talking about in real life, even though I try pretty hard not to. It's difficult for me to talk about or introduce my boyfriend to people without feeling like I might as well just wrap myself in a rainbow flag. With some people, it doesn't matter how nonchalantly or tactfully I try to slip it into conversation, I can tell they're uncomfortable.

The truth is, Cortez mentions that he had a husband, now deceased. If that feels like he is forcing his homosexuality on you, so be it. Perhaps in the future, people won't feel that mentioning the person they love is some sort of political statement.

You're definitely not the only one to report that. There was a thread just last night that was very similar to this, too.

Well I suppose it must've felt like that since homosexuals haven't been represented in videogames very well. It's quite a shock to see a gay person, even though they mention nothing else but their husband who they're grieving.

The romance and love scene with my femshep and Liara seemed pretty genuine and passionate IMO.

Cause that's pretty "oo lok here I'm gay!"

Lmao, now anyone who has a wife or a girl friend must be "Ooo look here I'm straight!"

I think the alien romances are kind of weirder (?) than the gay stuff in the Me universe. man, i love tali, Liara, and Garrus, but come on, Garrus has an exoskeleton and no "lips". I understand why he can be attractive the voice, the badassery...) but I find Ash/Kaidan more in my "standards" than our alien friends.

The Cortez plot seemed quite natural, ok he had a husband so what ? And James is there in a way to make the regular straight boys fell comfortable with this and even make jokes about it. Not a big deal anyway. And for kaidan, his sudden "crush" on Mshep would'nt be as strange if BW didn't remove the option in ME1.

Are these really going to turn into a daily occurrence here?

I think they were actually joking when they said that sort of thing.

Do you only use gender neutral terms to describe your significant other? Do you call them your significant other and use the pronouns "he or she" or possibly "they"?

To be frank, half of the people in this thread have brought this up, especially considering these replies. Nothing wrong with stating a 'certain' truth. By normal I mean, unable to bear children. You have your opinions, I have mine, and mine isn't intentionally or necessarily offensive. To an extent some people are just... Maybe defensive? I was simply comparing two types of sexuality to the games aspect of sexuality (which do obviously exist), saying it wasn't exactly OTT as I said, but still just somehow felt forced. Oh and for further reference, by noting I meant people noticing the homosexual content in the game.

Bit uncalled for that I have to 'defend' myself now. I can clearly see this is a homosexual and homosexual defence squad thread. So much for the essence of equality. Love how I'm being slated as homophobic now though. Typical response . Voice your thoughts (which could be largely more 'offensive' from other peoples lips) and you still get slammed for it. Anyways, think I'll back off from this thread considering the inability to have some opinions without getting put down for them and bringing out the usual replies and arguments.

Yeah, i had to tip-toe around the dialogue options for Cortez. I didnt want my Shepard accidentally becoming gay even after romancing Ashley and Miranda...

because you so need to tip toe around him when theres only one converstation in the game where you can get in a relationship with him and only if you pick the clearly labled I LIKE MEN options

I felt there were 2. But i didnt want to find out.

When i talk to my friends who are guys, i am never a wrong click away from initiating a gay relationship. Even with the gay friends (when they know youre straight). Plus i sometimes click the wrong option when i play sleep-deprived. So i say 'tip-toeing' sounds about right for me.

End of the day, its my form of expression. Im not sure why youre questioning it.
