Basically I haven't switched on mass effect 2 since I completed it back when it was released. I just downloaded the arrival dlc and on my menu option I only have new game extras and additional content options. Nothing for continuing or playing the dlc arrival. I went onto my Xbox hard drive and the ME2 importer is there and ME1 save file. My achievements for ME 2 are still there saved and I can see them unlocked.
How do I continue on to play the dlc? I wanted to play it just before ME3 comes out this week!

You play it by loading up a post-Horizon game save. You are labouring under the misapprehension that the dlc is accessed separately to the main game; it isn't, it is integrated into it.

No I did not delete it. It doesn't even give me the option to continue so how can I play the dlc which is meant to be integrated into the storyline.

Then you will have to inquire into how you can access your save games as you answered in the negative to Dimensio's question. Loading your game tends to help, beyond that....

Hmmm, could you guys do me a favour and go into your xbox hard drive and tell me if a seperate file save is created for ME2 ? Or does it get created under the Mass Effect Importer. Just want to get down to the problem ASAP so I know if I need to run through the game again before I get ME3. If I do need another run through then am staying up all night after work and doing a Mass Effect shift haha!

"Mass Effect 2 Importer" is created by Mass Effect 2 when importing the "final save" created by the first Mass Effect and is used for starting a new game with a character imported from the previous game. All save games associated with Mass Effect 2 will be under the "Mass Effect 2" entry in "Games and Apps" on your storage device. Your specific careers will be listed separately beneath that in the format of "<Name> - <class> - <Date>". If you cannot find such an entry, then you do not have any Mass Effect 2 saved games.

I do not have the Mass Effect 2 entry you are talking about. Looks like its a 24 hour shift on ME 2, before I play ME 3! Thanks for everyones help in the matter!

An alternative solution is to download a pre-made save from http://www.masseffect2saves.com/ provided that you are willing to do the work to import it onto your console.
