You don't need to explain why, because some reasons might belong more to the Spoilers forum. Just post what in your not-so-humble-opinion is the best Origin story and the worst.

Best:  City elf
Worst: Dalish elf

I confirm the worst is the Dalish elf...it is SO simplistic, short, and weak. It could have been one of the coolest but it was just bad. The only cool part is the very opening where you can be a bad@ss.

Hehe. I enjoyed that.

Agreed, City Elf, especially as a female PC, is quite moving, never before i've been so eager to kill someone.

While Dalish Elf origin gives the best reason to join the Grey Wardens, the quest is pretty boring.

I did a thread on this a few weeks ago. My own two cents were the best was the Dwarf Noble, and the worst the Dalish Elf. Everyone seemed to agree.

Really? When I started the Dalish origin I was not at all compelled to join the Grey Wardens. They had to really force me in fact.

I do feel a bit bummed to read that apparently this one has the worst ending. Should I even continue now I wonder..

I was actually talking about the Origin story in itself (so the beginning of the game), not the ending.

By the way, I've read somewhere that there are crucial differences in how the Dalish origin story is played whether you're male or female.

It's better then Dwarf Commoner (though Dwarf Commoner is a very close second). Of course, that's my opinion. I personally think Dwarf Noble is the best overall. :P

All Dwarf origins were good. All Elf origins sucked. Human noble was somewhere in the middle.

SPOILER!!
What i meant was that during the origin story you get tainted, and the only way to "cure" it is the Joining.

I honestly don't see how players can choose anything other than Dwarf Noble or Dwarf Commoner as their favourites once they've played them. They're that good.

Dalish Elf was the worst, in that it utterly failed to captivate or interest me.

My favorite was human noble but I may be a bit biased since it was my first. As far as worst goes, I hate to pick one since I enjoyed them all (haven't done city elf yet) but if I have to pick one then Dalish Elf. I also think there should have been another human origin.

I liked the dwarf commoner origin best. Better then the actual main quest. I think most of origins were alright, but Duncan's part seemed really weak. I mean the dude appears very little in them, but at the end he's like 'I've been looking for people like you'' or whatever. Really? You've been here what - a few hours? Please. It'd make more sense if he's someone your character has known his/her whole life as an 'uncle' or family friend not some obscure friend of your clan leader/parent you've never met before. Kind of like Gandalf's relationship with Frodo and the others.

I think it goes:
1. City Elf (female)
2. Dwarf Noble
3. Dwarf Commoner
4. Human Noble
5. City Elf (male)
6. Dalish Elf (female)
7. Dalish Elf (male)

Both Dwarf Nobles are good, but I feel like the male is better 'cause of the threesome.

Edit: Wow, I entirely forgot about the mage. :?

Favorite: Dwarf Noble (especially Gorim - yes you can add me to the Gorim fan club). But I enjoyed the entire story.

Least favorite - Doesn't exist - I like them all, simply like the Dwarf Noble the best.

i found the city elf as a female, and the human noble to be my favorites.

the dwarf noble was okay, but i just liked those two better

my least favorite was probably the dalish elf as a male.

then again, i havnt tried mage yet

Of all the origins I've played (all except dwarf commoner) I think I like

best: Dwarf noble

(Rather long and very involved with much potential to roleplay (inlcuding the horribly snotty princess), and a nice view into dwarven politics)

worst: City elf

(I don't know why, maybe I've been expecting too much from the previews. But it felt a little short, even rushed. And the "bad guy" way a bit over the top imo, while the (female) pc was spared a little too much to really feel the horror. Or maybe I just prefer playing nobles?

Shianni may be my favourite NPC in the whole game, though.)

Dwarf noble, human noble, city elf (female) are my favourites. The dalish one is the worst by far.

i think the female city elf didnt feel the horror as much as some of the others because she was too busy getting a sword and killing guards. although seeing one of your friends throats slashed for no reason right infront of you might be a bit traumatizing.

and if you think that guy was "over the top" just think of him as a rich frat boy with an influential father, and then factor in the fact that it takes place in a different time period. he even has the posse of yes men following him around.

It is probably just me. I also never really knew how to roleplay my character through that origin. Never really got into her. So that may be in fact my main issue.

I've only tried two so far, mage and dalish. I liked mage but thought dalish was pretty darn horrible. It seems like they added it as an afterthought at the last minute.
