This would be a real cheap way of getting their next protagonist if they decide to do another trilogy (whether it's called mass effect or something else). I romanced Liara through the whole trilogy, and even I think it wouldn't be a good idea. If you look at the other LIs you'll notice a pattern; they're all either infertile, can't have kids with shepard or are dead. Granted some aren't, but the way the writers treat Liara it's like they planned for her to "carry on" shepard's legacy.
After all this mess, I doubt enough people are going to care about a sequel in all honesty.

That could change if they do a good enough job on the ending DLC, doubly so if they bring out a "Romance DLC".
Still, I just don't see an Asari as a ME4 protagonist, because that would mean no option of being (visually) male as a character choice. They'll go for human, and they may go for Shep again, no matter what they've said up to now.

Agreed. It's bad enough my Garrusmancer thinks of Liara before she dies, but now her genetic "seed" (?) will live on through Liara, too.
I'm so glad this is just speculation at this point.

I mean, Liara melded with Shepard in ME1 to help sort out the data from the Prothean beacon. Was that sex too?? And what about Shiala who gave Shepard the cipher??
I´m pretty sure mind melding is to the asari as a hug is to humans: It can both be a friendly gesture or a romantic one.

Why are people freaking out & being so anthropocentric about all of this? In order for Liara to give you the gift you have to agree; if you're worried about her being in your head then just say no but once you accept it is certainly not rape in any form. She is not taking anything from Shepard and she is not hurting Shepard or his/her LI (if you didn't romance Liara) in any way. We've known since ME1 how asari reproduce and if you meld with her then all bets are off. And if you did romance Liara then you've presumably also done the LOTSB dlc where you talk about getting married and having children with her when the Reaper War is all over so again there is no problem here.
Also from a logical standpoint looking at it from her cultural perspective it was a decision that she made on her own and will be responsible for the result of her action. We've been told before that many/most asari raise their children on their own. Liara is very clever and mature in addition to being a rich girl turned even richer when she became the Shadow Broker so there is certainly no need for Shep to emotionally or financially support her or her daughter. If she did choose to become pregnant with my Shepard's child I would be flattered because it would mean that she obviously saw something extraordinary in her character that she wanted to pass on to her future offspring.
Maybe because I've had to have her in my head for other reasons in the other games, and she's never done anything like that before. Maybe because when I asked her what she wanted to do, she told me she wanted to just share memories, and then when we did whatever it was, it didn't look like any memories I recognized as belonging to either my Shepard or her ... but by then, it's a little too late, isn't it?
Maybe that's why we're freaking out. Oh, that and if this is what was supposed to happen, it will be canon whether we allow Liara into our heads in our games or not. BioWare will snap their fingers and say, "Make it so." And it will be so no matter what we choose.

Well, I for one am pretty sure that mind melding isn´t always the same as having sex for an asari.

Well, Liara clearly draws a distinction between a "union" and the mind meld. Since she says she's a virgin when she's already mind melded with Shepard.

i can see an asari wanting to join the alliance military .there wil be a short charactor creation and back story you choose.
or there might even be a debate in me 4 if sheperds child is a human a asari , quarian or turian . at the start of the gamwe ME4 sheperds legacy. he/ she will reunite the galaxys waring civs which i might add are waring because theylost there way and use sheperds words for there own political gain.. (politics sound familar?) . differently. . but the child strives to live up to his/.her fathers name and help the galaxy.
perhaps even ousting a few pretenders to sheperds name??

But Shepard being forced to have a daughter by Liara because Shep. was deceived... not so much.

2. Liara's personality never stood out as being a "I will stalk him; then have a covert baby with him" type.
3. Lastly, is it possible that she really did do exactly what she said? If I had the ability to give a friend a place of perfect calm and tranquility right before what would be the most stressful and tumultuous event of their life, I'd do it in a heartbeat.
I understand the vitriol that's being flung at Bioware right now, but can we maybe accept that this was a gift from one friend to another and not debate what "rape" with an alien race means in the context of a fictional universe?
