Funny that you mention this, I thought the same thing. All an Asari needs to procreate is a mental connection. Liara definitely had that angle covered. Could be a possibility that she either is or will be with child. She certainly cares for Shepard and this may be a way of preserving him in her mind.

It's been rolling in my mind when you speak to the child at the end. You go through the dialog and he does say "your children will rebuild synthetic life" (if you chose to destroy it).
Playing femShep all through the games and each ending not catching that till my last play through, but I would be happy if Liara did do that.
Main loves where Kaiden and Thane, but I agree with Skullheart. That would make an interesting plot twist for a new story.

Liara does say something like "..blue children will be disappointed I didn't have a speech..." and Shep responds "...we'll make up something good to tell them..."
This was in reference to LotSB (Liara romance) when Shep mentions "blue children"
