"Always Off" toggle/option for Shepard's helmet

I'm sure it was said that there was going to be an "Always Off" option for Shepard's helmet. I see that squadmates have this option, so why not Shepard? It's not that much of a big deal as there is a "Off in Conversations" option, but permanent helmet removal for Shepard would be good.
I'm playing the PC version, so if there is a way to permanently remove Shepard's helmet via the editing of game files, it would be nice to know.

No there's not. You're thinking of the "hide during conversations" option.Julia343 wrote...
There is on the 360
Anyways, I'm curious about this too. There was an option for it in the demo; not sure why they removed it.

not sure what you are talking about. I see it in my options (PC) and it works fine.

The only options are:
Default on
Off During Conversations
TC's asking about an ALWAYS off option, which is not in the retail game(but was in the demo).

It was there when I started the game, though..

A lot of people want it, yet the developers conciously refuse to put it in the game.
What troubles me is that it was in the demo, yet not in the game.. So I find it doubtful that the devs didn't think of including it, worse than tthat is that they removed it.
It's not like that it changes the whole world of ME much, its just a handy little option that a whole lot of people approve of .. Yet it is removed from the game.
I'm curious to find out the reasoning behind that as well.

Why did my copy of the game have

You're not looking at the right one. SQUADMATE helms have those options, SHEPARD'S doesn't have always off.

Also on a related note, can you still customize your armor ala ME2? Because I really, really loved the color scheme I came up with for my Shep in ME2.

Pretty upsetting considering it was an option in the demo. Why take it out?

Yeah, my Shep isn't the helmet-wearin' type. Where is this option, for at least the off during conversations part? Is it on the normandy? I didn't play that far before I couldn't take the Abomination Face heh.

The Off during conversations option is under "Narrative" in the Options menu.
Armour customization is similar to what it was in Mass Effect 2, with a couple more options. There are more colours and you can change the colour of the lights.

It happens in other games too... Dragon Age and even Knights of the Old Republic did it iirc.
A way round it could have been to have a "Shepard" name tag on the armour.

Yeah I liked rolling with the Recon Hood in ME2 and it was always amusing to listen to people acting like they recognized me.EG NeoMorph wrote...
One thing about Bioware games that has ALWAYS irritated me... Shepard can be covered from head to toe with nothing showing and someone says "Shepard? What are you doing here?" or something like it. Why no "Excuse me, but who are you?" or "Can you remove your helmet please... oh Sorry Commander. Didn't recognise you in that outfit!".

A bit cheap to have a helmet just for the armor bonus and yet never have it seen.

Um, sometimes Shepard needs her/his helmet on. You know, when a planet's air is unbreathable? Also some armor sets don't have interchangeable parts, it's just like a total body skin.
We aren't complaining about Shepard taking them off in those conditions, it's in perfectly normal conditions where they cover their face that's the problem.

That's no excuse. They still could have had an option that removes them where ever there's oxygen. Hell, squaddies have an option for that.

The sets that can't be customised can still have a hidden helmet during convos. Once again, this is no excuse. The data is in the game.

I don't have a problem with that. It would be strange not to wear a breather helmet under those circumstances. However, each armour set (N7 Defender, Terminus etc.) has a helmetless model, and I believe someone at Bioware stated that there would be an option to permanently remove the helmet. So it would be nice to be able to remove it under circumstances where wearing a helmet isn't absolutely required, like in ME1.

I've only noticed that in combat. Hilariously on Mars my Shep actually takes off his helmet a few times in conversations. (like when Liara makes the room safe to breathe in) I thought that was a nice touch.
