Don't wear a helmet at all then.

A bit cheap to have a helmet just for the armor bonus and yet never have it seen.

That's how I roll.
I didn't even notice it was an issue.
The game is easy enough that I don't think that much about those +5% bonuses.

I want a 'boots always off option'. I have a foot fetish and I bet my Femshep has sexy feet...

It's not really a choice if you wear those one piece armors like Terminus, Inferno or Blood Dragon, Solid. (And Inferno (or at least I think that's it) is great for adepts with the 30% + recharge speed and power damage.

Oh, THAT I agree with. Wasted 55000 credits on the inferno armor only to find out I couldn't take off the hideous helmet. ****.
But I'm talking about the default, customizable armor.

LOL Solid yeah I was pretty irritated when I couldn't take the helmet off inferno. Otherwise I have Shep wear the Sentry Visor so it's not an issue.

Yeah, but I wouldn't even bother buying the armor if I didn't see pics of armor sets without their helmets posted prior to game release. I thought it would be a feature in the full game as well. Too bad you can't return purchased items: "I can't detach the bloody helmet from this thing!!!"
Sad because I always thought the inferno armor was eyecandy.

Not so bad in ME3. At least then most of the time during convos the helmet vanishes.

But yeah in ME2 it was terrible.

But it was hilarious when A/K recognized Shep in Collector Armor.

[b]The Off during conversations option is under "Narrative" in the Options menu.

Thanks for pointing thisout!  I somehow assumed 'narrative' only involved turning the subtitles on/off.

Why did my copy of the game have

Default on
Always off
Off During Conversations

WHAT!? I DON'T HAVE THAT! That's just for companions for me... but not for Shepard.

 That would have been funny to see. I only wore the Collector armor once because, yeah, like I said, I like to see my Shep's face at all times.

There is an always-off helmet option.
1) Use the armor locker
2) Choose the N7 armor
3) Choose no helmet.

Duh.

Not in my game. Only squadmates have "Always Off".

Shouldn't be hard to patch in though.

The reason for this, i am guessing, is the 1 piece suits where the helmet never comes off even with the off during conversation option. They were just too lazy i guess.

I saw a video where Shepard is wearing Blood Dragon armour in a cutscene and his helmet is off. The cutscene is from the full game but since it contains spoilers, I won't link it here. So I don't see why would it bee too hard to have an option to remove it completely during combat.

That doesn't work if the player wants to wear something like the Terminus armour, Collector armour or N7 Defender armour does it?

The helmet issue seems to be more like a bug or oversight to me, as I believe it was stated that Always Off would be an option for Shepard. Regardless, I'm just dealing with it. Hopefully the option will be made available at a later date.

mess around with coalesced.bin, and you can get around the issue.
after I bought Inferno Armor and saw how horrible it looks I "condensed" it's effect to the N7 chestpiece, and removed everything else from all other pieces of armor. so basically: +30% power damage/cooldown, without the ugliness of armor and helmet.

No. If you choose armor witn an integrated helmet, you're choosing to wear a helmet.  If you don't want a helmet, don't choose an armor where the helmet isn't removable.

I thought this game was all about making choices, and there being consequences and different outcomes based on those choices. This is one of those choices.

Actually, I think we can conclusively state that this is just a case of bad design. Not being able to hide helmet is a really stupid limitation that should have been addressed.

Hell, this is one of the few inventory and gear issues that Mass Effect 1 did right.

Yes, VERY frustrating especially given that Bioware specifically stated there would be a third "Off" option.

http://social.biowar...3/index/9201549

and again even more specifically here:

http://social.biowar...43182/2#9201873

"All armors in teh game have a helmet toggle, even the ones that didn't in ME2."

So... ?
