2)It's not very logical that such a huge device could be built so quickly. In a matter of months, without infrastructure.
While, well, saying that the crucible is a top secret project started decades ago and that Liara was ressearching the Catalyst on Mars would amount to exactly the same thing gameplay wise.
Seriously, there was only one flaw in the whole serie.

With all the engineers of the galaxy coming together and devoting weeks / months of time?
Sorry but constructions like that have happened before in a smaller sense on our planet. It makes sense that with the easy-to-follow blueprints and proper resources we too could do it.
The only real issue was that for some reason the dome we created was jettisoned after it came near the Crucible. That surprised me.
