I've had several playthroughs, and the one thing which had eluded me was keeping both Miranda and Jack loyal after their big argument.

For anybody else who's had trouble with this like I've had, here's what I did.

First if all, I did this on a paragon playthrough.  Take every paragon conversation and interrupt option possible.  Do both Miranda and Jack's loyalty missions as soon as you can.

When it gets to the argument, take MIranda's side.  Then afterwards, I went down to Jack and finally the paragon persuade option was lit up in blue.  Until now, I genuinely thought this was bugged, and damned near impossible to do.

I'm surprised so many people have trouble with this. I got this last week with my femshep with a near full paragon and about half full renegade - this was before I'd heard that it can sometimes be a problem - and although I didn't get the renegade solution the paragon one was lit up blue so I just took it and thought no more about it. I'll probably find I'm stuffed on the Tali-Legion one instead now, which is going to come up this evening.
But if it hadn't been there I'd have taken Jack's side. Seriously, after what's happened to her and what Shep saw in ME1, screw Cerberus. And if she can't see it then screw Miranda. I'll miss her a lot less than I miss Kaidan, and I don't miss him all that much. Yeah, I know that's mean of me but it's role-playing and it's allowed. :P

I've only had a problem with keeping them both loyal on games that were not imported from ME1. I've always done Paragon, never Renegade or Neutral. The bonus reputation points you get in ME2 for the import makes it pretty easy as long as you stick with the Paragon alignment choices during ME2.

From what I understand it is easier (meaning you need a smaller percentage of alignment points) to unlock the Paragon option in the Tali/Legion disagreement, while the Renegade one is easier in the Miranda/Jack situation. Don't quote me on that because I've never played Renegade...

My guess is that most of the people facing this problem did not prioritize their "profession" skill which gives a considerable boost in paragon/renegade points

The "trick" to this is the same as every other difficult charm/intimidate check, like Morinth. You just have to have consistently chosen paragon or renegade; the ratio of paragon/renegade choices you made (as compared with neutral choices) has a lot more effect than the percentage you have. And getting bonuses from leveling up helps a lot too.

Ah, yes. I did do that relatively early on and chose the 100%er option over the 70%er. And I'm also playing an ME import which starts me off with points in both, and which I understand I won't get on the second playthrough. I might be in the same boat next time round because I don't want to change much about the way I've played it this time except that I know I missed quite a few paragon/renegade interrupts, though that ought to help me rather than make it harder.

The thing that slightly annoys me about this is that the real difficulty seems to be in getting enough points to have both options. I had the Tali/Legion one yesterday right before I went off on the suicide mission and got the same thing - only the paragon option was available. Reading round it seems like the only way to get both is to play a certain way with that as it's object. Aside from being kind of gaming the system it also doesn't feel like role play having your Shep respond in the way needed to get the points instead of the way a normal person in that situation probably would. Hey ho, I suppose there's alway YouTube to find out what dialogue the renegade options contain.
