I still haven't finished yet, I'm taking my time, making new toons, trying different dialogues, backtracking and reloading. I haven't even uploaded the character I'm playing now. Time played is all in how you play the game I want to miss as little as possible and I'll probably end up with the longest played time ever! I'm enjoying it too much. As for paying the extra content, when was the last time you declined a paycheck for a week of work or an overtime check? The extra content doesn't cost that much tbh.

I hope that most people who create those threads are trolls. Otherwise they should be locked up in a hospital. I cant understand why they are creating threads like this :/

First of all, I'm pretty sure that the overall playtime does not include the time spent on reloading and replaying when you die. Second, if you completed the game in 20 hours, then you didn't do any side quests which are a big chunk of the game and skipped most conversations which are the main part of the game. And if you didn't, then you, sir, are full of a well-known substance.

Took me about 90 hours to complete the game on my first run, doing all sidequests I could find.

The strength of Bioware - and the reason they are the premiere RPG developer - is developing the lore, dialogue, and the details which bring the world and characters to life. There is enough there to fill many books and movies. You skipped through all of that in about 30 hours and went for the combat alone, is there any wonder that you feel you didn't get what you paid for?

Don't blame Bioware - you cheated yourself out of about 2/3 of the price you paid for the game.

Its sort of like buying the most deliciously cooked lobster at a resturant and being pissed that you only ate the salad.

Hard luck bub...the plates gone now.

Now some may be impressed and its easy to figure out you certainly are.  I for one am not and the reason why is that if you actually DID go through the entire game in 20 hours, then you missed SO much.  Bioware put a lot into this game and if you spent 60 bucks to just speed thru it like it was a drag race then its YOUR fault not Biowares.

The game has content easily for four times the amount of time you claim to have spent. On a single playthrough, the origins make sure replayability is pretty good. Moreover, the "modability" of the game ensure this "half assed game" will be a constant source of enjoyment for a long time to come.

It's official; you're a retard or a troll. Most likely both. Your mother would be so proud.

Let me know where you find an RPG, where the story will take you more then 20+ hours to complete. RPGs are ment for side-quests etc to pro-long the game, not to mention that even so, dragon age has a lot of replayability, whereas alot of RPGs dont.

Sadly this is the MMO mentality, and I am an avid MMO-er (hardcore raider in WOW, which I quit about 6 months ago) so I know what I talk about. In a MMO you rush to the endgame asap to be able to compete. Because the endgame is considered the actual start of the game for most players.

Alas for the OP a single player game has no endgame so if you rush to the end you loose out big time. I love this game so I take my time and currently busy on my second playthrough.

This game certainly has its share of issues, but length is not one of them. I can see how you would enable subtitles and skip over the voice acting, although it's really well done and I recommend listening to all of it. But even if you do that, 20 hours seems to be possible only if you only follow the main quests and don't play branches that take longer than others.

As for "should be free", of course I agree that if the developer spends money on creating the content then players should expect to spend money to play it, but it could be argued that DLC like Warden's Keep is entirely not worth the $7 price tag and should be closer to $2 for the little content it includes (which appears rushed too, some of the dialogue is a good indication for this)...

it just makes me mad that they charge for content that should be free

Why should content be free?  Because the people that are working 80+ hours a week don't deserve to feed their families?

Guess what, you have a *free* toolset, you can dedicate the rest of your life to spending 16 hours a day doing nothing but providing free content, and given the tone of your post, you seem to think that providing content for games is some kind of altruistic calling that warrents a self  flagelation line, so it should be pretty rewarding.

This is easily one of the best single player games out in the last 10 years.  The toolset is free, you spend *your* time developing free content for the great unwashed masses.

I have played DAO 80+h and I'm very happy with number of content here. I went trough all dialogue I can and propably half of side quests. I never sprint toward finish line especially when I'm playing my first playtrough. I also spend some extra 5-10h play trough all origins stories as all of them are totally unique up to the point where main campaing starts and you get recruited by Grey Wardens.

I'm a more happy about number of content in DAO than in Mass Effect (in Mass Effect I was able to finish All side quests and main campaign in 50+ h). Side quest in DAO if not totally unique are more interesting and better written at least than side quests in Mass Effect.

What comes to DLC Bioware is not forced to create it in the first place they are in business and they need to pay something to voice actors, composers that create music, sound effect guys, animators for gfx, story writers, level designers... If you think that voice actors, animators or writers dont have right to feed their families why they would spend time creating content for DAO when they can spend time developing other games or projects that actually give them some money?

Why do you want to blow through the game and miss half of the content?

Tool.

And on 'Nightmare'?  Lying tool.

20 hours my ass. I expect screen shots.

He used some guide probably to hit only the quest areas and npc's and not waste time on useless npc's. Even then I don't think anyone could do it their first run thru the game (not knowing the tricks to certain bosses)

Go back and play it again, properly. If you dont want the DLC then dont buy it - also check the redeem codes you might have it for free anyway.

The new war game that got released recently my son finished in 7 hours, without skipping anything. That in my opinion is NOT value for money, cost more than Dragon Age and 1/10th of the life time.

I think some people just like to make negative comments without any substance sometimes.

Looking at your profile (of your level 18 Dalish Elf) looks like you have not finished it anyway - 30 hours in and you just rescued Anora.

I watched a 2 hour movie in 20 minutes on fast forward. They should make movies longer! Or the sequels free!

I still don't understand how it can take someone more than 60 hours (at the absolute maximum) to complete this game and everything in it.

My first play through was 49 hours and some minutes, I hit level 23 (I think). I did absolutely everything I could find, though to be frank I think some quests and other bits were a bit bugged, especially for Orzammar.

And I absolutely did not skip any dialogue, though there is a chance I clicked through a bit early since I had subtitles on and obviously could read faster than the characters could speak, though I tried very very hard to not do that.

I will grant that this was on easy, I'm doing normal right now, but so far I'm on par with my first run through, maybe even slightly faster because I am skipping through some of the dialogue (just the boring redundant bits).

So 45-60 hours seems like it would be the norm, and I can only see close to 60 if you were dying a lot or waiting around without pausing or kept having to double back a lot.

Can anyone explain what they are doing to make their experience last sooo long? Don't get me wrong, I think even just 50 hours is insane for a game like this, and I'm very happy with the "bang for the buck" so to speak. But there is a limit on just how far you can stretch out a game, even one as big as this, and at least a few of you seem to be going pretty far out there.

70 hours, first playthrough on normal:
  • Stuck on several battles, though I'm not sure if the counter is on the character or savegame. Fairly sure it's on the character. Didn't exactly help to pick Wynne up after Redcliffe and Brezilian Forest.
  • Read every codex entry.
  • Spend time figuring out abilities on my char and party members.
  • Traveling back&forth for every small quest.
  • Making 2 rounds on each map to make sure I didn't miss anything (still did though).
  • Refusing to restart game when loadtimes increase, because I'm going to stop playing in 5 minutes anyway (still going strong hours later).
  • No cutting short of any dialogue.
  • Traveling to&from vendors to check for ingredients.
  • Leaving the game running during dinnertimes (cooking& eating in my case) and other distractions.
