Why was the Normandy even in a mass relay jump at the time Crucible went off? Did Joker and the crew decide it was time to do some early celebrating on Tuchanka or something?

Joker was looking for alternate endings where choices mattered and you had the option of getting your happy/sad/grimdark/dramatic/hopeful/depressing endings.

I think you need to re-title "ONE of many things." That ending was so contrived, I am in disbelief.

No I consider the rest of the endings just "what color would you like the crucible beam to be in the ending movies?"
Normandy at the end sequences was more of a "oookay... and where the **** do you think you're going with Reapers literally everywhere?"
