The story and its climactic "ending" were not planned in advance. Is this lack of a clear theme to blame for how far off the conclusion was from what came before in ME1? I'm not sure anything can make sense of the ridiculous kid device that ruined ME3 or why it's a wonderful idea for the Normandy to be stranded no matter what the player does, but this article might explain why the writing went so far awry... The ending stinks because they pulled it out of their *****.
