I am about halfway to 3/4ths through Mass Effect 3 (I am about to do the Thessia mission).
I will tentatively say that I like Mass Effect 2 the most, since it offers the best balance of dialogue choice, character definition, and action-packed gameplay among the three series. Mass Effect 3 has great gameplay but suffers from too much auto dialogue, and the binary dialogue choices end up detracting from the experience further. It's still a very enjoyable game so far, but it has flaws.

The first one. I had never played a game like it before... and unlike most people, I absolutely loved the micro managing of equipment it had and really missed that in the sequels.

This one actually, up until the very end. It's not perfect, not by a long shot, but I felt it had a nice combination of story telling and action to keep me entertained. And the stakes felt real. My only problem with it, aside from the endings, is the lack of dialogue choices you have for the middle of the ground. You're either a Paragon, or a Renegade. Which I can't say I enjoyed since my current character is most definitely a Paragade, and I had to play her as a bit more of a Paragon due to the lack of middle ground options.
Other than that? I enjoyed it the most. However, I just played it - so my feelings might be mired by that. Ask me again in a few months, once I've played it again, and I might have a different answer.

In my opinion, they gradually get a little worse. I loved ME1. ME2 had better controls, graphics, and gaming otherwise. ME3 was fantastic, but the endings really ruined the game for me.
They're all amazing -- my favorite franchise.

Loved all three games, it's an amazing story up to the last 5 minutes. I'll try to pretend they never happened.

Ugh, I'm so conflicted between my love of 99% of Mass Effect 3 and my hatred of the last 1%. Even so, they were all incredible games.
Ignoring the ending of ME3, it would go:
Mass Effect 3
Mass Effect
Mass Effect 2
Including the ending of Mass Effect 3:
Mass Effect
Mass Effect 2
Mass Effect 3
I feel like ME3 had much better combat than ME2, and the big priority events were so much more incredible in scope than anything in ME2 except for the suicide mission itself.
Mass Effect had my favorite story arc, from beginning to end, and I think I'm probably in the minority here, but I actually really liked the combat and abilities in Mass Effect. Nothing quite as satisfying as sniping someone in the face with explosive ammo, dual scram rails, and rank 3 assassination.

Ignoring the endings, ME3.
With the endings, ME2 by a large margin.

Mass Effect 3, hands down. Regardless of my opinion on the endings, the rest of the game was phenomenal. Tuchanka comes to mind, because it was just epic. Running under a reaper with tons of brutes after you, come on, that was awesome.
Plus, I loved how much more connected the squad felt, and not just with Shep but with each other. I'm glad you could find them chatting to each other and that they wandered around the ship. I felt so much closer to them than in other games.

If you ignore the ending, ME3 was the most emotional game I've ever played..but only because I've played the previous two....5 years...

I'm not sure yet. I've not come that far into the story in ME3, but for what I've played, I love. I have to wait and see until I come to the much hated endings before I can make an opinion.

I love them all equally - even ME3, despite it's many flaws. To me, they are connected so closely to each other that I can't really seperate them out...it's just one epic hundred-hour game in my mind.

I have finished ME3 and it will surprise and anger many people that I actually like this one the best.
I feel that they did an excellent job with the story for 99% of the game and really made it an epic final act.
Now the vast majority of people who hate this game do so because of the endings and while I am not happy I am okay with them. I'm more confused than anything else.

Same. This one until we landed on Earth. That mission was built up for a long time and when we finally got there it felt really small scale and underwhelming.. Then things got worse.Nyaore wrote...

If not for the terrible ending I would say ME3 hands down. As it is I'll have to go with ME2.

I liked the ME1 more than ME2 by an incredibly slim margin, and if ME3 hadn't ended the way it did I'd have like it more than ME2. As it stands though, I loved ME3 right up until the last 5 or so minutes.

I liked ME2 the most. Now I have trouble liking any of them, due to the ending in ME3.

Up until the ending 3 was on par with 1 for different reasons.
One is the best RPG of the lot.
Three plays the best of the lot and fixes some of the mistakes of two but is still basically a story heavy FPS-lite.
Two is terrible and I sort of knew following two that Bioware had bit off more than they could chew and that the choices having an impact on the game would be severely limited throughout the series.

If I could ignore the endings of ME3, it's ME3.
Otherwise, ME2. And I'll write ME3's sequence of events myself...
