Current dissapointment aside, would anyone be excited for ME4 if it was a different universe? A fresh start.
Given most endings for ME3, it is not unlikely any plot set in the post-Reaper era would not at all reflect the current ME universe. So would you take a chance on a game with no Asari, Turians, or Krogan? No mass relays or the citadel. No avenger series rifles, no omni-tools, and completely different mass effect tech.
Or if possible, would you want it to re-establish the galactic community with the old races and technology (as well as new ones)?
Lastly, would you want the catalyst story resolved/answered, or forget it ever happened?
Would anyone be excited for Mass Effect 4 if...

I would most likely play a game such as that provided it looked like something enjoyable.
I wouldn't really call it Mass Effect, however.

A different universe called Mass Effect that doesnt have Mass Relays, the Citadel, Krogans, Turians, Omni-tools, or anything else like that? Thats like making a sci-fi called Star Wars and removing the force aspect. No way. Not sure how it could work any other way short of new stories that take place during the gap that Shepard was "dead." As for the catalyst I'd rather it was erased but I can swallow the bitter pill a bit easier if I get resolution/closure.

There wont be a ME4, given the choices, they would have to create 2 entirely different games, why? because relays are built by the Reapers, and 2 out of 3 endings reapers are saved, with 1 destroyed. Therefore in order to restore galactic communications, reapers have to be present.
Think about it, we cant even decypher Prothean technology, how are we going to built relays without reapers. Without relays, you cant really call the game Mass Effect.

It can't be called Mass Effect without mass relay technology. :/ And even though the other races aren't vital to the setting I know people would be up in arms about the lack of any of them, especially since fans, Bioware, and more have bothered to put so much effort into a series with its own codex only for the new (god I hope they're new) writers to go 'lol, this is stupid. -three endings that are all M. Night-grade twists and delete buttons at the same time'.
