So I don't know if this is the right place to post this topic, but well here I go.
In the book written by David Gaider called Dragon Age: Asunder, well Wynne dies in it. The question I have is about the book, is it cannon? Because if so it retcons anyone who ended up killing Wynne in their playthrough.
Wynne's retcon in Dragon Age: Asunder? (Possible spoiler)

Well, lots of folks 'could' die in DAO, but stayed around for subsequent books/games. You can always say she only 'appeared' to be dead in DAO, or that somebody found some of the Ashes and healed her, whatever you like. The only thing I didnt like is, why she died to save an inferior version of Cassandra. We already have Cassandra, we dont need Evangeline too, they're essentially the same character (the only exception being Cassandra was simply better). Wynne was far more interesting, by many miles, than Evangeline and I'd much rather her still be around. But as far as Wynne being alive to begin with, its not that hard to imagine a reasonable explanation.

It's simply so that Wynne is definantly dead by DA3. If you killed Wynne in DA:O, then that's canon. Otherwise, she dies in Asunder.

Any non-game extraneous material is it's own canon. It is not related to your games. Attempts to keep the two separate are the reasons why several details are never mentioned in Asunder, including whether Anders is alive/dead, anything to do with your Hawke and whether he/she is alive/dead, anything to do with your Warden and whether he/she is alive/dead, the ruler of Ferelden, and anything related to the uh... thing with Morrigan.
The only things that could be bad for people are Leliana and Wynne, since you could either kill each of them or not recuit in the first place, and Shale as you could not have recruited her or even played her DLC. Since Leliana is certainly a retcon in DA2, her appearance in Asunder could be considered a given anyway, leaving only Shale and Wynne.

David Gaider wrote Asunder intentionally not mentioning hawke so that he would not have to canonize which side of the conflict the Hawke PC came out on, also the Warden PC was only mentioned in references so that a canon wasnt made for this PC either which was all deliberate to prevent canonnizing the players chars, the rest of it from Wynnes death etc can be and probably will turn out to bve canon

If the events of the book match your own game canon, then you may assume that the events of the book also happened in your universe. If they don't, then those events unfolded in a different way.
