Okaay, so I just finished ME3, I'm confused as-is from the whole "We kill everyone to save everyone" thing, but, in my ending, the Catalyst flashed orange and the reapers exploded, all humans were disintergrated, and my Shepard vanished. Then Joker, my hero, trys to outrun the blast only for the Normandy to get marooned on a beach or something. Then a door starts to open and you dont even see if he survives.
Now safe to say EDI survived though her mobile platform was destroyed, right?

When you pop back onto the Normandy, you're back before you assault the Cerberus base, it's giving you a chance to explore the Galaxy a bit more.

Since you didn't have enough war assets, your companions likely died. (You should have seen their lifeless, Reaper-lazered bodies when you first spawn on the Citadel)
In my ending, with over 5k assets, they come out of the Normandy doors along with Joker. (I also chose the destroy ending. This ending kills off all Synthetics to ensure all Reapers die, but a side affect is that the Geth and EDI are also synthetic, meaning they die.

The game dumps you to the point before you raid the Cerberus base.
