 Because it's awesome. It is heavy pistol and SMG 2 in one. It can fire really fast, or slow and very powerful. Also the only weapon in the game that can be fired while running.

Geth plasma shotgun can fired on the run as well, not had any others that can yet.

I just got it, I'll have to try it out. Not really sure I'd like its tickle function, but its potential damage looks promising.

 The verdict is, this gun is too flawed. To fire it charged, or a barrage of shots, you have to leave yourself exposed much too long to be of any use. In the time it takes to charge an arc shot, you can fire off two shots in a carnifex, and duck in cover in between. Because it can't even take out 75% of a cerberus trooper's life on silver, it doesn't have an excuse for its heavy weight. It takes a good chunk off of shields, but that's somethign a well placed shot can do.

TL;DR: Every other gun can do its job better.

You can charge it while you are In cover so you don't have to be exposed. You can even charge it while running for cover as well. They are both great pistols though.

Well I am playing an Asari Adept. Most of the time I use the rapid fire, and when I use the charged shot it is to take out guardians with a headshot, or headshot stasised people. But as I said, the main reason I like this gun is because it can be fired on the run, which makes it easy to keep enemies at bay while at the same time getting closer to plant a throw or a warp. The gun pays for it by now having a croshair though.

Haven't gotten my Carnifex back yet to compare it, but for me it will be a weight issue. The Arc pistol is pretty heavy, and kind of slow if you use it like you would a Carny.

Which is heavier post nerf, Carnifex or Arc, and by how much?

Post nerf, the Arc pistol is still quite a bit heavier (about on par with Katana or Scimitar shotgun). I got it and compared, but the big weight differential put me off from actually using it yet. Maybe I'll give it a shot on one of my engineers.

I switch between the Carnifex & Arc Pistol depending on my mood.

The weight of the Arc Pistol threw me at first, it looks heavy as hell according to the stats but it's really not. I get a pretty fast power recharge. They make it look like it's as heavy as a shotgun but it's not. The Arc Pistol is my favorite gun in the game so far.

 Only gun I have found to be less useful than the Arc Pistol is the sorry ass excuse for an N7 weapon called the N7 Eagle from the commendation packs. That thing is a bigger squirt gun than the Arc pistol. Both are useless as ever even on bronze.

Damn calm down about that. Semi automatic pistols are always going to be weaker then the "magnum" class. The Arc Pistol is fine. It's a bit heavy but you get options. Options help you win. Why bother charging up a shot if you could incinerate and do a single shot for a kill anyway?

I have the Arc at rank 3, however due to owning a Carnifax VII my Asari Adept can take that and a Hornet V without impacting my power spam. The Arc has its moments but the Carnifax is my highest upgraded pistol (bar the starting one) that I own by far: Its hard to take anything else.

Paladin is way better. You need a whole mag of arc pistol to kill one centurion, while paladin uses 3 shot.

I have the Arc Pistol X. I got a ton of cards for it right away, but I don't use it much.

The trigger timing is different. Once I get used to it I'm sure it will be fun, but it bugs me right now.

arc is great vs shields, crap vs everything else.

the charge shot is difficult to aim seriously - over 10 years of 'click to shoot' FPS experience, you simply can't adjust to 'release to shoot'. also it takes way too long.

I enjoy the arc pistol myself but since its only III and my carnifex is 9 i stick to it since i have 200% recharge on my adept with it.

Don't like it. Typically the RNG gave me cards for it all the way through to X. Prefer my Paladin III.

I tried it on my engi, its tooo heavy, and you can finish all its ammo without even realising(during half the match i was running around without ammo, and with cooldowns that didnt allow me to use my powers effectively..), its a good pistol but only as a secondary, and if you want to have good cooldowns its just not worth it.

This game is really cool because one person can kick ass with a certain weapon while the next person can't do crap with it. I can decimate any enemy with the Arc Pistol (Banshees & Brutes hate it) but can't hit anything with the Shotguns. I pretty much hate any weapon that's too heavy & takes 6 hours to reload. I'll never understand how anybody can stand using the Mantis.

And I get really quick cool downs with the Arc Pistol.  As I'm pulling the trigger I'm also hitting the power button so it's a combined attack.  

Oh, and I'm talking about bronze, not gold. Gold is just ridiculous, might as well be thowing sticks at the enemy.

Which makes your opinion irrelevant.  A Salarian making melee attacks with a salami could clear Bronze, so there's little sense in discussing tactics for it.

Arc Pistol is more or less unacceptable in Gold games.  It can't deliver large packets of damage as fast as a Carnifex, and it can't deliver small packets as fast as a Phalanx.  The result is that it's trash.
