Any workaround? Purpose of having game downloaded to HDD is to prevent the disk tray from working OT, yet I find when I am playing, and game tells me to insert disk 1 or 2 (whichever I am not using), the disk tray doesnt stop spinning at all - other times, its ok

Unfortunately, the workaround is to go back to the dashboard and get back into ME3.

It's not to do with the new disc format and associated update Microsoft released is it?
I know the new discs keep spinning for a couple of minutes longer than they used too (found this out playing Gears 3 )

Thanks, yeah the whole '2 min spin' happened after the update and extra space for the dvds; this is seemingly an issue to ME3. Not the biggest deal in the world, but annoying nonetheless

I ran into this problem when I had to switch discs to do the first N7 mission and then had to switch back to go to Menae. The disc spun constantly, it wasn't doing the disc check like when you first start the game. I have an old model 360 and the noise and heat being generated was unbelievable.

This isn't exclusive to ME3 it also happens with Skyrim and a lot of the new games. Even Kingdoms of Amalur has this problem. It's the new discs I'm guessing, because I can put in a game from a couple years ago and I have no disc spinning as long as the game is installed to the Hard Drive.

When I switched back to Disc 1 to do the Menae mission the disc was spinning for about fifteen minutes before I gave up waiting for it to stop, there's definitely something wrong.

Yeah, this isn't the extended spin associated with the new disc format. If you press the guide button, it shows that the game has switched to play off the disc instead of the HDD.

I'm pretty sure the disk-spins-longer-than-it-did-before issue with newer games is something to do with updated ECM code Microsoft has added to help prevent piracy by hacking the DVD unit. I suspect that even though a game is installed on HDD, the xbox does several "checks" for a few minutes to make sure you have a real/genuine xbox CD installed. IIRC, something like this happened when GoW2 came out - they added newer ECM on that title and MS caught a whole boat load of "yaaaaaaaaaar" pirates. :)

No, it literally says that you're now playing from the disk, and doesn't it stop spinning after the (now normal) 3 to 5 minutes.
