The way I see it, Liara is the chronicler of Shepard's story which is why she can't die and have a thousand years to ensure Shepards exploits are constantly updated. Asari are so advanced, Liara may have precognitive abilities that can glimpse into the future of Shepard's death and it was her way of saying goodbye.

Shepards story would continue to live not only in some form of a recording device Liara installed but when they melded, the experience, memory and legacy of Shepard would become one with the universe that cannot be erased. This was Liara's special gift I think.

my favorite moments throughout the series all had to do with liara. in ME1, her nervousness was funny. in the second one, thanks to the lair of the shadow broker, nothing in the game beats shepard and liara's bickering when they're flying the car during the asari chase, like a married couple. this third one, liara bringing shepard what she was working on was outright sweet. and the final moment they had together was definitely the heart-warming culmination of the whole series. ignoring the ending now...

Loved it, but it also reminded me of Spock at the end of STII, telling McCoy, "Remember."

Having just finished another playthrough with all the single-player DLC to date, I could swear that her dialogue for this scene changed. She explains what she's about to do and what it means and I am 99.9% positive that she's not said that before.

If Liara survives, Shepard's neurology lives on. Mark my words.

That was nothing special, she just showed Shepard something. You don't have to do it btw.

I thought it was a really touching and poignant moment, actually, and it made me cry. I didn't mind it at all seeing as Liara was my Femshep's best friend, and to me it was Liara's way of bestowing a bit of peace in Shepard's mind. A quiet, beautiful moment amidst all the chaos. Now that's a gift. c:

I honestly don't know where the problem is. She wants to make you a gift and she explains it to you before. It was her way to say goodbye. And you can refuse it, you know.

Edit: To the necromancer: You got me. Well done.

Maybe this is how they keep Shepardblood in the next game in the series. Liara stole your baby seed. The next protagonist may not be an N7 Alliance marine, but it could be Liara and Shep's baby. And depending on your LI seem like a bstard or legit child.

Liara was my LI and in my canon she actually got pregnant in my cabin before the final mission. The comment about the Blue kids on earth was just confirmation.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but it's a gift of her memories, right? She's showing you the moment of her birth, right before you and your squad are preparing for the final hour (death). It's symbolic.

I romanced Liara in ME1 and stayed with Jack in the next two games, and I didn't get the impression she was mind-raping me. (Also mods, please don't shut down this necroed thread until I get my question answered)

Same here!  I thought that moment on Earth was just confirmation - probably the closest to marriage they were likely to get, given the circumstances!

I agree.

That said, I'd hope Liara wasn't trying to make a baby...if my Shepard can't romance Samara I ain't romancing no one! Especially not having a baby with someone else.

She joined minds with Shepard several times in ME1. I don't see any little blue children from that.

Well, given the love scene from ME1, I figure even Asari sex required a bit more nudity then we see here.

Beyond that....man, you guys, ruining a beautiful scene. The romance version is obvious, but the non-romance? It's way too easy to forget that despite how capable she is, Liara is the Asari equivalent of a 20 year old. She's a very close parallel with Tali there. Like Tali, she's a young adult just really getting started with her life, and then along comes Shep. "What could I possibly be suggesting? I mean, a young woman gets rescued by a dashing commander who lets her join his crew and then goes off to save the galaxy? How could she possibly develop any kind of interest in him?"

Consider it from her perspective. By the end of Mass Effect 1, Shep is basically Captain Amazing. By this game, he's friggin' superman. She's been clearly enamored with him since the time they met. She's journeyed with him, protected him, fought beside him. She's sacrificed another man who was interested in her for slim chance at bringing Shepard back from the dead, spent her time and resources protecting Earth while neglecting her own home world. Then she sets up beacons throughout the galaxy, to tell future species about the cycle and warn them about the reapers. What does she think is the most important thing to tell them about? Yep, Shepard. In such detail that he possible becomes a legendary figure in the mythology of the species in the next cycle. And Shep....well, just goes back to shooting things.

She quite literally wrote his name in the starts with such passion that races who hadn't evolved yet knew his name. Some girls give hints to their feelings with subtlety. Liara couldn't be less subtle about her feeling if she wrote "I love you Shephard!" in 80 foot letters with a Cain to a soundtrack by Dire Straits.

So either Shep is air-quotes level oblivious, or .....Yeah, the dashing space captain savior of the galaxy has the girl friend-zoned. She's been trying with everything she's got for years, doing the impossible, and still the best she ever gets out of him is "You're a good friend Liara."

And there they are, almost certainly about to die, last chance there is going to be. And even then, all the girl can do is give him one last gift - a brief moment of peace in the face of Armageddon.

....and you guys want to turn it into a rape scene. What is wrong with you?

imagine the entire ending was just the gift from Liara.
