Liara was my LI and in my canon she actually got pregnant in my cabin before the final mission. The comment about the Blue kids on earth was just confirmation.

Liara was my Shepard's LI and I took it as a joining for a child. (or at least I hope so) I really did wish to see those little blue children. She evens mentions them which made me smile. I teared up at this scene though, it's hard saying goodbye to characters you've grown so attached to.
you know I don't see that as a goodbye theres alway a chance of coming back however slim (where there is life there is hope)

Having just finished another playthrough with all the single-player DLC to date, I could swear that her dialogue for this scene changed. She explains what she's about to do and what it means and I am 99.9% positive that she's not said that before.
She always explained it, but you had to choose the dialogue option that asks what kind of gift it is. If you choose the 'of course' dialogue option there isn't any explanation.
Really? Huh...well that'll teach me to pay attention! Thanks for clarifying that for me, mate!

P.S. I have killed off everyone who is someone in Mass Effect. Even Commander Shepard at the end of Mass Effect 2.

imagine the entire ending was just the gift from Liara.
Just like the ending of the last Twilight Movie?
Please don't judge me. Breaking Dawn Pt.2 was the only one barely worth seeing.

See, that's the summation of everything about Liara's romance I dislike - she falls in love wth the myth of Commander Shepard more than Commander Shepard the person. She becomes Shepard's personal cheerleader, incapable of seeing any of Shepard's flaws, and, more troubling, raises Shepard above her. She does not seem to consider herself Shepard's equal because, like the protheans, she put Shepard on a pedestal. Unlike the protheans, however, there's no occasion where Shepard gets knocked off that pedestal and brought down to Earth for her. Even after Thessia, she doesn't blame Shepard for failing to recover the data. She blames herself.
But that summation is also the reason why I never accept that gift - the mind-meld is way too intimate an act from where I'm standing, and, given that asari mate through joining consciousnesses, I recognize that agreeing to do it is sending her mixed messages, particularly given that I'm using coming from having just made out with Kaidan.
Thank you dgcatanisiri....Eloquently put and so true.

I thought it was a brilliant goodbye scene, probably the best I've seen in a game.
And I'm not even a Liara fan.

Right, Shepard saying no magically makes Liara not want blue babies. Seems legit. My Shep doesn't accept the 'gift'....blows your blus babies theory out of the water....
From her description, the gift is a goodbye shared between spouses and good *friends*, and your opinion of asari culture is seriously messed up if you think that they consider rape a casual goodbye.
