I just got my copy of ME3 on PC and enter CD Key.

Code got redeemed to my account, OK.
But when I pressed next to install, it says code is in use.

Code is still attached to my account, but game refuses to install from disk.

Only way is to download from Origin, which will take forever.

How do I install it from disk?

EDIT#1

Check Egermano's post.

EDIT#2

You must uncheck "Read Only" check box in order to do make this work.
Use Total Commander program for that.

sounds like you derped something. maybe try ejecting the disc and start over? or open my computer and right click on the dvd drive with me3 disc in it and choose autorun.

(mine worked just fine, installed through origin with the disks.)

Strange mine installed fine from the disk. All I did was run the autorun on the disk and followed the prompts. Though I have come a cross others having the same problem of Origin wanting to download the install from the internet, rather than from the disk.
Maybe check/install the latest version of Origin to see if it solves the problem.

Still the same.

It keeps saying that code is in use and refuses to install, even though I have game register and option to download it via Origin.

Actually, I have exactly the same problem. Unfortunately, I don't think there is any way to install the game from the disk, if it keeps asking to validate your code with your Origin account. The game does install and start through Origin, but once registered, the code cannot be used again, it seems. However, your game disc now becomes completely worthless.

I attribute this entirely to EA and Bioware - it is obvious that Origin is still quite buggy. I am really disappointed, as this is going exactly along the footsteps of Ubisoft, and I believe everyone has had enough with their aggressive DRM policy. It is a huge step back from their approach with the first two parts of the game. However, this doesn't work, as I have seen working pirated copies of Mass Effect 3, so the only one who suffers is paying customers, not the pirates.

The very fact that I was only able to post on these forums AFTER I had launched the game while logged in Origin, even though I had registered it with the site, speaks quite a lot ...

EDIT: And by the way, I had the latest version of Origin - in fact, it didn't let me start the installation before I had updated the client, which I believe has a lot to do with my problems.

The problem is that you cannot install from the disc after you've registered the game to your account. You've got one shot, and after that you have no choice but to download the game.

Here is a workaround that worked for me. My DVDs came with Mass Effect 3 packed in standard multipart .zip files, named "Mass Effect 3.z01" on DVD 1 and "Mass Effect 3.zip" on DVD 2 (yes, part 1 is on the second dvd /sigh). If your DVDs have different content, you have to figure out how to copy files yourself.

1. - If you got to this thread that probably means that you already activated your game in Origin, and started the download. If not, do so, and exit Origin.
2. - Backup and delete all files in following folders. Leave the folders and subfolders intact:
[Origin Game install folder]\\Mass Effect 3\\
[System Drive]\\ProgramData\\Origin\\DownloadCache\\ (or the appropriate subfolder of Application Data in Windows XP)
[System Drive]\\ProgramData\\Origin\\DownloadCache\\{ [your mass effect 3 account email address] }
3. - Copy "Mass Effect 3.zip" from DVD 2 and "Mass Effect 3.z01" from DVD 1 to a temporary folder. You may skip this step, if you can handle multipart archives from DVDs.
4. - Extract the zip files to [Origin Game install folder]\\Mass Effect 3\\ . You can use WinRar, 7zip, Total Commander, etc. Some files will have CRC errors, that not a problem, click OK/Continue.
5. - I'm not sure the following is needed, but I did it anyways: I've cleared "Read-Only" attribute from all files in Mass Effect 3 folder using Total Commander.
6. - Start Origin and resume/restart download (which should last only a few minutes now). If you get problems (Installation failed on 99%) that means that you haven't cleared everything in step two.

Hope this helps.

------------------

I got to say I'm very disappointed that I had to experiment with the installation to get it working. Also, I'm disappointed with the quality of the box. I've bought my copy at Game-s in Serbia, and there wasn't a booklet inside, just the two DVDs which turned up not working. Also, I preordered tha game, but I didn't receive any preorder codes or promotions (is there such thing? How do preorder bonuses work?). After the quality of the release of Mass Effect 1-2 I'm very disappointed with Mass Effect 3. What a shame.

Egermano you have my sincere thanks, I had the same problem as Mesina2 but following your instructions has worked perfectly and saved me waiting hours for the game to download.
Mesina2, did you copy the two files mentioned to somewhere on your PC rather than trying from the discs? You then only need to extract the file Mass Effect 3.zip?

I have, but I can't extract files at all.

Unless I misunderstood his description, it doesn't work for me at all.

What extracting tool are you using? I use WinRar.

Mine wouldn't take my code when I installed it from the disk too. I used, I think it was the "gear" icon, in Origin and registered the code. Exited and then installed the game from disk. It worked for me that way.
I hope that helps.

I guess I have to be thankful to my Internet provider that I have a very decent download speed (I live in Bulgaria, by the way). Thus, having to download this from Origin is not really a big hussle. However, I do have to question this approach, as seeing how the game is already pirated on local torrent sites, and people say it works perfectly, it really doesn't give me a lot of incentive to be a paying customer.

All this makes me feel quite happy with myself that I backed Double Fine's point-and-click adventure game project on Kickstarter. I guess i should be voting more frequently with my wallet, starting with Bioware - no DLC purchases this time, I'm afraid.

Yeah, I used that and only got an error message that it can open it, hence can't extract it.

Tried with 7-zip too but did nothing.

Had the exact same problem. After installing Origin and typing in the gamekey, it popped back and said I needed to type in my key...and I couldn't install from the DVD..
I don't understand  why Origin doesn't have a possibility to point it to install from dvd, it should have if you ask me.

anyway did what Egermano suggested and it installed fine. I'm just slightly pissed that I have to go through that to install a brand new game...

Shame on you EA/Bioware for releasing something with an install routine that isn't working flawlessly. This is the first game for me, where I have had a problem where I needed to find help to install it, and I have played games for 20+ years. Non technical people would be screwed or forced to download the product !!!
