If you import a horrible me2 save and don't collect any of the war assets can you actually lose before you get to the 3 main endings?

No, and it's actually a shame. A 'the Reapers beat you, you dumb ass' ending would have been great.

It would have been cool if there were a War Assets minimum you had to have to succeed with a 'bad' ending, but any lower and you would fail... possibly in that you would never reach the Conduit due to the enemy forces in the way.

Shepard dies, feet from the Conduit. Harbinger looms over. Que a 50k time skip: an alien of a sort we've never seen before is desperately looking through Liara's time capsule, with Crucible schematics lying around. The room shakes, and the alien looks up... where, outside, the Reapers are in the process of reaping another cycle. Possible implication that one of the Reapers in particular is the Human Reaper.

The Cycle continues.

Yes, when failure is not an option, what point is there for playing, even if you have to try to fail.

A poor illusion of choice in a game that claims to offer meaningful choices/consequences. I guess the game is getting meta in a bad way in the ending.

That aside a lot of the choices before that set of ending choices were well thought out. But the level of logic in the ending is strange.

The closest you'll get to losing is earth getting destroyed but that doesn't really matter when you screw the whole galaxy and countless other now disconnected systems.
