Agreed

In addition to all the excellent points of the OP, the endings seem like bad business since I am far less inclined to play through again or buy any DLC for a game that insists my character, that I invested at least 150 hours in over three games, dies. I bought all the DLC for the previous games and had multiple characters and play-throughs. After finishing this game, I have zero desire to have anything else to do with it.

I'm really down with point #1. I created peace between Geth and Quarian, and returned Rannoch to Tali, only to have some AI tell me that it didn't matter and to fore me to strand Tali on some unknown planet that could be anywhere, and with no viable means of returning. That crash scene literally rendered my efforts for that character irrelevant.

I'm sure that they were trying to go for something along the lines of "the future is what we make it" but it just doesn't sit right. I feel like I invested way too much emotion just to have it end like that.

To the OP,

     Very well said. I am glad to see that there are mature individuals here that don't resort to homophobic comments thinking it's going to get them what they want. If I may also add;

Keep the current ending as the GREY ending, in between Paragon and Renegade. Keep the theme that the Mass relays have to go because lets face it, you cant win this war without sacrificing the reaper tech, besides there is hope. In ME1 they said the protheans were close to unlocking the relay tech. how far behind can we be. Add the renegade ending were it is an accumilation of the chioces the player made and make it downright awfull, not just deperessing (player has to watch their love interest go down in a hail of gunfire inches away and they are powerless to do anything about; that sort of stuff). On the flip side allow players to have their "happy" ending, while the relays still gotta go. This trilogy is about choice after all.

I also gotta give credit to BIOWARE for the amazing game they created. The ending yes is a let down, it feels incomplete and rushed. If they decide to ADD more endings this can still turn into the most EPIC conclusion to this trilogy in the Mass Effect universe.   Here's hoping

OP, you said it all perfectly. I'm not going to go so far as to say the ending of ME3 has tainted all the games for me forever, but now, when - if ever - I go back to play any of the games again, it will be a hollow un-fulfilling experience, knowing that, in the end, none of the content of any of the games *really* mattered.

For a franchise built around player choice shaping the course of things, the ending of ME3 as is truly feels like a mockery, like the team was actively planning to betray us and laugh at us as we leave the trilogy we had grown to love feeling bitter in the same way as if a long-time lover turned out to be cheating the whole time, or just using us for money. The ending is an outrage, and a very vague, convoluted one at that.

It felt like the stellar writing team suddenly got burnt out right at the end, like their batteries ran out of juice and they just went "........."

Now, if the Mass Effect trilogy were a trilogy of novels, or films, these endings would be acceptable, even enjoyable and appropriate. I can't deny the ending itself is dramatic and beautiful. But being a trilogy of games, not just any games but games whose very calling card is player choice changing the outcome, these endings just aren't acceptable.

At least in novels and films, we, the readers/watchers, don't have a choice as to how things pan out. If the Mass Effect games were novels or films instead of games, I would have read/watched them and been happy with them just because the story, characters and setting were all so fantastic. But since it is a game and I supposedly had the choice to decide how things turned out, to have that sense of choice taken away is jarring and unsatisfying.

It felt like the writers thought, "Ok, we're tired of having the players get to make the choices. We're just going to go ahead and end the game the way WE want to, so screw you, loyal fans."

Not a good way to build trust with your customers. If this is any indication of what future games from Bioware will be like, I don't think I will want to have any part in that...

On a lighter note, the ending of the 3rd was so bad that I had to watch a movie with a happy ending to get the sour taste of ME3 half out of my mouth.

Amen OP. Bioware owes its fans a better ending, an emotionally satisfying ending that makes our choices matter and doesn't doom the galaxy and our friends and allies to a fate arguably worse than if the Reapers just continued to war with u sand harvest us for another 400 years.

Between this disaster of an ending and the pile of varen feces that was DA2, I'm unsure if I'm ever going to buy another Bioware game - their decision making has just become that questionable. And this is coming from someone who has bought every Bioware PC game since Baldur's Gate.

So much for replayability. I've gone from wanting to play ME3 with all 5 of my ME2 saves to uninstalling the entire series.

Agree.

Why can't I get an ending I want? An by "I" - the community. ME2 had a choice for things to go bad, but also to save everyone. Why can't there be a good ending!? I worked my ass off with the War assets, expecting a massive battle where we win - everything is saved, life in galaxy continues, I take my LI and live somehwere happily ever after. Yet, I'm forced into 3 decisions that I hate. Is there some hidden decision?

I think we all want that ending.  And after working so hard making the right choices and investng so much time, money, and getting invested into this game emontionally i think we deserve that ending

I also agree. Its been the theme of Mass Effect 1&2 where you "pull it out of the fire" and get the epic upbeat conclusion. Remenber ordering the fifth fleet to save the council and then killin the repaer. . . awesome memories!

I guess if you consider that very slight movement at the end living.  If the mass relays are destroyed and your team is somewhere else then idk what the point of being alive is.
