I have a bit of a problem. It appears my escape key is broken off and I am left with a little rubber part under it (I use a laptop). It still works when I press it but I think I might break it off if I keep using to to skip through conversations. So I'm wondering if there is a way to remap the escap key. I've looked under the remap options but I dont see one for an escape key.
I've also already tried remapping the escape key under windowns to the usless windows button. It only apprears to work under windows but the game still defaults back to the old escape key.
Any help would be appreciated.
Remap the escape key?

Remapping the ESC key has risks. In some games remapping ESC to the 'wrong' key can leave a player in a state where you cannot exit the game or exit out of dialogs - and may be forced to exit the game by alt-+tabbing and terminating the process through task manager. This may or may not be an issue in Dragon Age, but I don't care if you break you game at all. Therefore, you can try your hand at editing the KeyBindings.ini file, where I see things like:
ToggleMainMenu_0=Keyboard::Button_Escape
ToggleMainMenu_1=(UNASSIGNED)
It's in ..\\Documents\\BioWare\\Dragon Age\\Settings on Win 7.
The zero setting is for key up state. The 1 setting is for mapping a command when the key is in the pressed down state, so you probably want to leave the ToggleMainMenu_1=(UNASSIGNED) part alone.

I don't think "ToggleMainMenu" will help with skipping dialogues. You can't even remap basic RMB/LMB functionality.
Please get back to us and tell us if it works. Inquisitive minds want to know!

I don't think it will work either, but I mentioned it partly to stop the topic bumps and partly because it *might* work if Bioware is using that same function (ToggleMainMenu) in their calls to exit out of dialog boxes and NPC conversation trees.
But my earlier point about problems in general with remapping ESC apply just as well to remapping primary mouse buttons, though most mouse driver control panels I've seen (logitech, for example) will let you custom map those buttons outside of the game). Windows PowerToys has a key remapping utility that I've never used - I'm not sure it lets you remap the ESC key but the point is that you may google a 3rd party out-of-game utility that can remap keys for you. I'm pretty sure I could (if I wanted to) use Logitech keyboard drivers to do this, for example. But I have no idea about the OP's keyboard hardware.
Edit: here's a 3rd party utility that works outside of the game. You would use it to remap ESC to some other key. If you're smart & stylish you will select an alternate key that works for all things, including DA, and then your laptop keyboard ESC key issue becomes less of a problem across-the-boards.

There are other utilities that will work similarly, so google according to preference. Read warnings on such apps, like the one I link which states:
"OkayKeybees uses a global hook to replace keyboard messsages. While some
users may never have
any problems with them, Microsoft does not recommend their use since
global hook programs can conflict with each other and can hamper
performance on slower systems."
