At the end of the game they say that a new age as begun.....as the time line is broken up into different ages.....I wonder if the next game will be called Dragon Age or go by another title representative of the new age that has started.  What do you all think?  Do you think it will take place in Fereldan?

I have wondered about this myself, since if I understand correctly DA:O takes place near the end of the Dragon Age, so... sequels would have be just a few years apart in the timeline, or take place before the original game. No real news yet, but many people suspect Orlais will play a big role in the next game, either as the setting, or perhaps they occupy Ferelden again (or perhaps the game is a prequel and takes place during the prior occupation).

Of course it will be named Dragon Age: (Something). You don't just abandon a brand name.

They'll probably keep the name. Baldur's Gate kept the same name, even though its sequel and expansion had you never visiting the city ever again.

The plot of this game is actually set early in the age, an age last 100 years and the battle of Ostagar takes place in the year 30.

This game takes place in 9:30 Dragon (thirtieth year of the ninth age which is called Dragon) so there is still room for more "Dragon Age" stories.

They don't have to be after one another though. They could be in the same time in a different place, thus solving the problem with not canonizing any specific playthrough.

of course it will be named dragon age, DAO ist just the origin to the whole dragon age series. morrigans child will be the main character of the series and "origins" is just the intro to that epic series. and DAO doesnt take place and the end of the dragon age, but the sequels will.

What you talking about, Shale would be in her element, slaughtering them all :D

I know for one thing, I highly doubt we'll be playing as the same character. As the epilogue seems to indicate that this was their big adventure and am guessing the only other time we'll play with these characters is in DLC and mods made by players for this game.

Some of the other stories it mentions indicates 'new heroes'. Which I suppose brings the question of whether the Origins part would remain.

Unless they do an Origin DLC for the other races that we haven't had player character choices for yet, like Qunari.

If it is based in Ferelden I guess they could still work in 'player saves' from this game even if the hero died or isn't taking part as of course their actions have consequences to how Ferelden is shaped from then on.

I suppose though that it will be a different title to Origins, as that was kind of the 'theme'/'integral backbone' of the story, whereas the next one will probably have a different theme.

I doubt Morrigan's child will be the main character because not all endings have her 'with child', though I imagine she will make an appearance herself possibly or at least there will be mention of her.

Dragon Age is a very good name and it's easy to remember it. It's also easy to fit titles onto it, like Origins. I've no doubt they'll keep it and as such have a new franchise going for them. I'm happy for BioWare, I think it's a great name, great world and great opportunity for the future work.

And Neverwinter Nights was so called despite the majority of both games taking place in daytime!

I am pretty sure the sequel will take please at least 20 years after origins.

the darkspawn and the grey warden will play a minor role, if even at all. they are just here to introduce morrigans child, both the darkspawn and the grey warden play a vital role for his rebirth.

there is a reason the game is called dragon age, and in origins there are almost no dragons at all.

no, the series is about morrigans child, the reborn old dragon god in human form, he will be the reason for the title "dragon age", mark my words. and the main character from DAO will be long dead in the sequel becauce of the taint. everything fits, thats how its gonna be.

and yes its true not everyone chose the option that will even bring morrigans child to live, but i think its the most important twist of the entire game, it explains why the PC even survives the battle at ostagar, so I'm pretty sure this will be the canon ending.

you'll see.

The only thing I know is that I'll buy it. Well, unless maybe it's called "Hello Kitty MMO". Actually, if Bioware made it might buy even that...

I always thought that name was because I played it at night, mostly...

Final fantasy is repeatedly called final fantasy though clearly not being the final fantasy.

Franchise names stick.

I have some kind of memory of one of the devs mentioning something about not making any specific playthrough canon in sequels.

Might just be wishful thinking.

The first Final Fantasy sort of was though, Square was nearing bankruptcy due to poor game sales, the name was meant as a final "screw you" to naysayers (or a last hurrah to those less cynical than me).

Who'd have guessed Square Enix would now be the monolithic, crass and evil giant it is now eh.

Sign me up.

To the OP: There's still about 60+ years in this current Dragon Age so if Bioware chooses to give us another game within this time frame it's likely it will be called Dragon Age: somekindofelectricbugalootoo.
