Hey all,
I'm looking a building a new NWN2 server to host a PW. I'm mostly a web developer in RL and have decent linux OS and windows skills. Given that, which platform would most folks here recommend? if you have a recomendation do you have a install instruction set? Server maintance advice welcomed as well!
Thanks for any and all replies!

Windows ( since skywing does windows mainly and PW's would suck without him )
( www.nwnwx.org, using NWNX 4, xp_bugfix and his many other releases ARE ALL basically required to be used to ensure things work properly )
My Never Launcher has a set of DLL's and an example config for NWNx in the NWNx folder, and buttons that install the needed libraries for you, however the INI files have to be gone over or it won't work. ( This something i have not released yet where it does it all for you, and it's also a version behind skywings, but might be useful to look at, eventually i am trying to make it so it does ALL the work for you, but it might help to have something to look at. )
I had notes on all this on the citadel, but am waiting to get a copy of that. The starting a PW thread on NWN2 wiki is useful but some of it is obsolete such as worldgate and audolo.

Thank you very much! Any suggestions about server security? I'm going to keeping the server up 24/7. I was going to restrict the ports to 80, and the NWN ports. Not sure what one uses for remote admin on a windows box.
I've got a pretty good idea about the "how to run a PW" since I did run one in NWN1. I've been making an on again off again effort, and putting the server up will force me to stay focused on what is needed week to week instead of getting bogged down in details...

NWN2 needs UDP/5121 inbound by default. TS/RDP is TCP/3389 inbound by default, for remote administration of the OS.
If you restrict outbound traffic, you'll have additional firewall rules to manage.
Standard security practices for any operating system apply (keep up to date with security patches, don't turn on features you don't need).
