Second Playthrough: How Can I Get Sheperd to Live?

 Title mostly explains what i'm asking here. What do I need to do to atleast get Shep to live?

have to get a minimum of 4000 effective war assets, not total. Which is extremely hard with single player alone

Mass Relays still get destroyed and the Normandy with everyone else is still off on a random world even with 5000+.

I had 4165 when i beat the game. Do I do a Renegade action to save Anderson? Which path to I choose?

Let just say I had EMS on about 7500, Galactic readiness at 100% and still got no adequate endings.
After the first one I simply thought I had terribly misunderstood the choice to get that kind of psychedelic nonsense ending. Well after replaying the last 2 hours of the game twice, you realize there are just no adequate endings.
And I',m not saying I want a bright cheerfull happy ending, I'm ok with dark endings or just good endings but these endings are.... so not okay...

AFAIK Anderson dies no matter what. You need to destroy the Reapers and have 4k+ effective assets to get a short cutscene after the Citadel kabooms, showing a body with N7 dogtags buried in rubble gasping for breath just before the fade to black.

So is Sheperd living just... random? I know the endings are bleak, and giving that we are stopping a cycle that has gone on for hundreds of thousands of years I don't expect that we could get the heart warming ending that we want. For the galaxy to be saved, my crew alive, and me still kicking is good enough for me.

I need this ending to happen, or for a better one presented by BioWare in DLC. We worked too hard to have everything thrown away.

He's half right.  You have to have 5k EMS to live with the red ending.  Anderson living doesn't matter.

HOWEVER, you CAN live with the red ending and 4k EMS if you save Anderson by doing the Renegade interupt or the final Paragon/Renegade option.

So, for Shepard to live in the destroy ending you must have:

-4k EMS and have done all Paragon/Renegade options with TIM to do the final option, or just Renegade interupt.

-5k EMS

you need to charm/intimidate TIM...4000 to 5000 ems...destroy ending

I don't know whether to call you Fluffy or Burrito, but either way thank you. I did have 4k EMS (War Assets?, choose the red ending and performed the Renegade action to save Anderson from TIM and did not save Sheperd. I am starting again importing my ME3 character and taking a more exloritive approach to the game instead of feeling like im being rushed.
