NPC potion crafting in camp?

How do I go about getting my NPCs to craft potions while I'm in camp? I don't have the talent myself but I have two mages who do, and while I've seen rumblings that only the PC can craft in camp, that seems like such an obviously and incomprehensibly stupid idea that I'm having trouble believing it's true. I must be overlooking something.

So what do I have to do?

Thanks.

Anyone? Is it really not possible? And if not... what's the explanation? Surely if that's the case somebody must have looked at it and thought, wow, that makes no sense at all.

Have you tried opening the character window and scrolling through the party with the bar on the upper left?

You can swap characters in seconds while out in any non-combat zone except the camp. Just swap them in and out for a moment to do what you need in a city.

So in other words, the answer to my question is that it can't be done.

Doesn't that strike anyone else as monumentally stupid? If there's a reason for it I'd love to hear it, but I for one can't imagine what it could possibly be.

Well, I don't think it's worth constructing a statue or something about, i.e. it's not "monumentally" stupid. Is it a design oversight? Probably. I certainly can't think of a reason, role-playing wise, that our NPCs can't use their skills in camp. Will a modder allow us to let our NPCs "craft" in camp in the near future? Most likely. Can you remedy it by going to any one of a dozen zones and switch your party in and out, taking less than two minutes' total? Absolutely.

open character window

scroll through different party members

stop on morrigan/wynne/zevran (whoever has what you need)

click on the skills window

click on appropriate skill. it'll open the crafting window for them.

Yeah, except as has already been discussed you can't do that in base camp.

Being able to craft at the camp would make life simpler, especially since the vendoe there has a lot of crafting supplies. Every time I want to make some potions/traps/whathaveyou I seem to be missing one thing and end up carrying around a bunch of ingredients, cluttering up my inventory.

I think not being able to interact with the other characters except through dialogue while in camp was not a good design. I hate having to exit the camp area to outfit an npc with some new item/equipment that i just bought or to give them a gift. Especially the ones that I don't normally take on missions with me such as sten or dog. Yes I still outfit them in good equipment even if I don't normally use them on the off chance that I MAY use them at some point and therefore want them to have good stuff. it would have been much easier to be able to do it IN CAMP.

You can change their equipment, level them up, and give them gifts in Camp.  You can go to any of the Character, Inventory, Talent, and Skill tabs and use the arrow buttons to scroll through all your characters.

About the only thing you can't do is use any of the skills, so you can't do any crafting in camp.

What kepha said. Besides, you CAN create potions ON THE FLY DURING combat!. Yep. Done it. Middle of a big fight. Bombs and potions can be made DURING battle.

Wow, that's even stupider.

Maybe I'm being a bit harsh but with all the experience BioWare supposedly brings to the RPG table, this kind of "oversight" just shouldn't happen.

Well, this oversight is making me fustrated, I have runecrafting on 1 of my companions instead of the main. My box for inventory is full and I have to zone in and out of the keep where the vendor for rune crafting is to max out my runes to Paragon. I sure wish to hear an explanation as this kind of oversight would just not do.

The only way I could think of to make my life easier is to buy a tome to change specs,,,,

Yea I think I ll do that ,
