Instead of having the crucible be a link to vent boy, I would have made it a tool to block/reverse indoctrination. The reapers aren't unbeatable, we've destroyed some, as did the protheans, it's just their ability to wear people down with their own troops that makes them nigh unstoppable. Taking away/jamming their indoctrination would allow us to fight them on more even footing. Maybe even have several reapers destroyed from the inside due to the workers inside who had been indoctrinated suddenly waking up. Have a massive space battle with a few different variations depending on which forces you had managed to recruit. Maybe even a tactical section where shep is in charge of directing troops for the battle and deciding who to send where.

The final battle would conclude with a suicide mission-esque charge onto the largest reaper command ship. People could live/die depending on loyalty missions again and at the end shep faces down harbinger. He explains that the reapers purge the galaxy in order to procreate (ala ME2) and they have a set time to do it in order to prevent technology from progressing to a level where a species could be a danger to them. The protheans managing to delay sovreign is the only thing that has allowed the humans to advance as far as they have. Ensue massive battle.

Endings

Super Bad: Everyone dies =p

"Bad": Humanity is wiped out, reapers win. Cut to 50,000 years in the future as the races of the next cycle destroy the reapers. Celebration on the citadel of all the alien races, and statues built to honor the sacrifice of the heroes of our cycle. A discussion of the new council will reveal that Liara's data was found and used to help defeat the reapers, and your heroes names will go down in history as the saviors of the galaxy.

Neutral: Harbinger detonates the mass effect relays as a last "screw you" to shep and his team. Most of civilization is destroyed, but there are some that live. What normandy members live depends on loyalty missions/side quests completed. Cutscene shows combined group of races on burned out earth working to rebuild. Flash forward a few hundred years to civilization discovering how to build their own mass effect relays and ships taking off to other systems to try to reestablish contact. If shep was straight and had a LI maybe have one of the ship commanders with the last name shepard.

Good: Habinger attempts to detonate the relays, but is stopped. Having either Anderson or TIM (with his indoctrination broken) sacrifice himself to stop it here would be ideal. I actually like the idea of TIM doing it, going out in a blaze of glory, telling shepard that all he ever wanted was the best for humanity, and he knows humanity is in good hands with shepard around. Cue farm with white picket fence and little blue babies cutscene.

Of course these are the paragon versions, I'm sure there would have to be some tweaking for the renegades.

I would have dumped the whole Crucible-superweapon plot, I knew that was a foolish mistake when I heard it on Mars at the beginning of the game. The whole idea was to unite the galaxy to overcome the Reapers, not unite the galaxy to distract the Reapers while some alien wonder weapon saves the day.... and kills the hero.

Just a straight up fight, where we can live at the conclusion. Nothing fancy was needed.

Yes, something like this. No stupid deus ex machina super weapon. And variations of endings depending on your readiness.

Bad ending - readiness is very low, no allies etc - reapers win. The only hope that Liara's beacons will work better than prothean ones next time.

Several Pyrrhic victories where depending on readiness and who your allies are either Earth is lost or some races are lost (like, without geth support quarian Flotilla won't make it, without krogan support turians won't make it, etc), fate of Shep and crew depends on different variables. Or maybe even Reapers are not defeated but just driven back, so no direct victory, but just glimpse of hope.

Some ending akin to Control. Maybe united Geth and EDI write a program to control Reapers for a short time to send them back to the dark space and seal them there. And thus they could return in the future, but the Galaxy has time to prepare for the next fight.

Array of good endings. Allied fleet is so big that it can stop the Reapers. The reapers are stopped at cost of millions of lives and entire galactic fleet but civilians on prime planets are mostly unharmed and will be fine, especially with new allies that could help in rebuilding. Maybe add couple of Virimiresque choices if the ending without drama is not artsy enough. One of them should allow to sacrifice yourself for the good of everyone else for those who like it. Maybe let Javik play a bigger role, like protheans found weakness in Reaper strategy but by the time they have found the way, their forces were destroyed, but new big allied fleet can do it.

And whatever the ending, epilogue would be a must. For bad ending just show ruins of civilization and then flashforward several thousand year ahead and show how some unknown alien plays Liara's message. For all other endings I'd love DAO-style ending. Like there's some ceremony (Shepard's funeral or celebration of the hero), where either surviving friends say their final words to Shepard or when Shepard can talk to all those who survived and after that - at least text summaries of further events. If the budged allows, then in form of galactic news summaries like the ones we hear on the Citadel while we play

Shepard starts up the crucible. It takes out the reapers. She and Anderson look out at the stars, and after she says "Best seats in the house" the credits roll. BAM.

I wrote this on another thread, but it probably is better suited over here:

The whole Prothean story changes over Mass Effect. In number 1, you get the idea that the best they could do was build the Conduit, get the Citidel, and block the Keeper signal so the Reapers could not launch a surprise attack in the next cycle. Their appearence resembles humanoids with long tentacle thigns coming out of their face.

Then they end up being Collectors, with the appearence that resembles the Javiks. Then you learn no, wait, the Protheans did more than just have Illos and the conduit, they were building a super weapon to destroy the reapers. Here are the plans, been sitting under your nose the whole time. Go build it in a week.

So they go build it. This great super weapon. And of course it requires the Citidel to work. And what do we find. The Reapers' master. An entity we know only by its child avatar. No clue as to its name, its purpose, it origin, only its goal. The whole garbage about order and chaos, and organics versus synthetics.

Quick, how does the Crucible work, how can it destroy the reapers, little child avatar, can you help "Yes, I suppose, as I control the Reapers." Oh thank heavens I ran into you before it was too late. Quick, to the colours of destiny!

The whole interaction with the Thessia beacon was botched. It was there that you could have one of those nice long codex conversations that you had in ME1 and 2. Sit there and talk to this guy. What do you know, where did you come from, how did you interact with the Asari, how did you come by the Crucible, how do the Reapers work, who is this force that controls them?

Really build up this idea that unlike what Soverign said on Virmire that Reapers have no beginning, blah blah blah, but that they do come from somewhere, they serve a greater master, and it is this master, confronting him and destorying him that is the key to saving the galaxy.

With that establish, and properly played out both in the Asari temple and in the Citidel, then the sacraficial endings of Shepard would not have felt so bad.

If I was writting Mass Effect 3, start the end of the game by going into the Illusive man's base, most of that level was well done. Liked learning more on the story of Project Lazarus, then move on and fight Kai Lang as a sub boss. having him guard TIM's glass office. Then when inthere, have a nice long ME converstation, get the info on the catalyst, then kill him.

Move on, find from Anderson the Citidel has been moved to Earth Orbit (never mind how it got there), then have the final battles on the station, not in London. Have the final confrontation with Harbinger on the station, the final confrontation between the leader of the organics, and the leader of the reapers. Destroy him, then move on to find the Catalyst as the boy avatar (a sad use of symbolism, would expect that kind of crap from a High School student, not a professional), and have the big debate.

have the decisions matter at this point. He puts forth why he uses the Reapers to implement the cycles, and you can question him on it. How did he come here, where is he from, how did he build the reapers, how long has he been doing this, much like Vigil on Ilos. Then the choice. Take control of the Reapers, destroy all synthetics, or if you have done enough war prep, do the green route. Destory the Citidel and Mass Relays in the procees.

But offer a fourth option. Be the ultimate Paragon/Renegade. Show this catalyst what organics can do. Show him how they can exist united with synthetics, because you have EDI, because you have restored peace and unity with Quarian and Geth. Make the catalyst put forth the sacrafice.

The catalyst agrees. He calls of the reapers. leave the rest ambiguous, where to they go? what do they do now? will they ever come again? Not important. What is, is that Shpeard showed how great organics can be, that its chaos can lead to great things, even when directly compared to the order of syntheics, case in point, EDI and Quarian/Geth.

Shepard is the legend he is in the other endings, only he is alive. And if he saved the galaxy as a paragon or a renegade will decide how he will help lead the galaxy in the future ahead, the job to rebuild what has been destroyed.

Thought a lot about this since beating the game. Here's what I've come up with, trying to change as little as possible:

Platform rises, bringing Shepard face to hologramy face with the Guardian (chamber is a little different, no diverging paths, just the reactor-like convergence of the Crucible and the Citadel). The Guardian explains the purpose of the Reapers and the Harvest and informs Shepard that he is unique, something that the Guardian could not have anticipated. To reward Shepard's efforts, he gives him the option of becoming the controller of the Reapers, losing his humanity, but allowing him to send them back to dark space.

The catch of this is that the Guardian is certain that, given time, Shepard will realize that the Harvest must occur and the cycle will continue. Shepard defies the Guardian, saying that giving up his humanity flies in the face of everything he's fought for. The Guardian then offers to transport Shepard back to Earth so that he can die with his people. Shepard says something witty and badass, then shoots the "reactor."

The scene cuts to the Reapers on Earth, who do an "eye to the sky" type deal and fly off towards the Citadel. The Guardian grows agitated, telling Shepard that he cannot fight millions of years worth of order. Shepard defies him, continuing to shoot. The reactor gives off an explosion, sending Shepard flying and causing the platform to collapse, as energy flashes upon the Crucible, resulting in a blast accompanied by a tone dischordant to the low thrum of a reaper (something high and clear, maybe?). The blast hits Harbinger just as he begins to close on the Citadel.

The blast severs the Guardian's ties to the Reapers, disorienting them a la Sovereign, allowing the fleet and ground forces to begin destroying them. We're treated to a few shots of combat and celebration, then it cuts to control room, as the squad makes their way into the room (the mission squad is battered, but alive). They see Shepard's body lying there, Kaidan (or whichever LI) rushes forward, calling out to Shepard and cradling his body. Displays of emotion from all squadmates as the scene closes.

I'd then wrap up with an epilogue of Shepard's funeral. The eulogist talks about Shepard's accomplishments (curing the genophage, peace between Geth and Quarian) and talks about how the entire galaxy owes its future to Shepard. During this, we see shots of our various squad members and companions reacting and comforting each other. Game ends with eulogist saying that in millions of years of galactic civilization, Shepard was unique, a true hero.

Sorry for the length haha. Been thinking about it a lot. TL;DR: Shepard destroys Reapers, dies, everyone's sad, funeral. The End.

In the scenario where Shepard 'lives', instead of showing a chest plate moving in a pile of rubble, pan back from the group of survivors at the Normandy crash site and show that same chest plate emerging from the airlock - fade to black.

It's the solution with the least amount of impact on the current endings. It doesn't wrap everything up in a nice package but at least it leaves you with the "well, at least there is that..." sentiment.

I reject your reality and substitue my own. This is a more satisfying ending with a better, and simple explanation for the reapers. It follows the basic idea of the true ending of the game. Also keep in mind that this is the best possible ending based on me having the highest possible readiness and the choices I made in game.

Wall of text warning:
(edit; sorry for the poor formating. It didn't copy paste well from word.)

On the rim of the crater surrounding the portal to the
Citadel;

The remnants
of Hammer pull into view all the edge of the shallow slope leading down to the
portal. Shepard can be seen standing in
the center, his current and former crew scattered amongst the mixed species
forces. Shepard’s voice echoes out
through the com.

“This
is it. This is what we have bled and
died for. We make it through the portal
or die trying. Stay sharp we don’t know
what is on the other side. Move out!”

A
soldier behind Shepard gasps.

“No! Reaper inbound!”

The silhouette of a large reaper
can be seen descending from space behind the portal the glow from its cannon
shines out from under its exoskeleton as it touches down. Shepard latches onto the back of a mako as it
passes.

“Go go go!”

The mako speeds forward other tanks
visible in the peripherals. The reaper
opens fire, the bright red beam cutting through a mako to the right of
shepard. Debris from the tank peppers
Shepard as he latchs onto the back harder.
A second beam cuts across to his left taking 2 or more tanks with
it. Shepard is halfway to the portal,
and the beam fires a third time. The blast
cuts directly in front Shepard’s mako.
The tank pitches forward violently as it hits the patch of shredded
earth, catapulting Shepard forward in a low arc. He tucks and rolls as he lands, skidding to a
stop on his back. Sturggling from the
impact, he picks himself up and begins sprinting toward the portal. Through luck or the reapers attention not
settling on the loan man now in front of the push, Shepard makes it almost to
the portal before the beam turns on him again.
The light from the portal almost washes out the flare of the red beam
charging. He is almost there. Fifteen feet, ten feet, the beam fires and
Shepard dives for the blue pillar of light.
Blue and red mix in a hue of purple and the world goes dark.

Shepard comes to in a room full of
death and decay. Keepers slowly move
around the fringes moving over the bodies of the dead. Shepard stands and looks around before using
the com.

“Anyone else make it through?”

Anderson’s voice resounds in the
emptiness.

“That you Shepard? Seems like we were the only ones that made it
through.”

“Where are you Anderson?”

“In a room filled with bodies. It’s a grizzly sight.”

“Same here. I think I see a light at the end of this
chamber. We need to find a control to
open the Citadel.”

“I see the same. I’ll try to find you in the next area.”

Shepard moves forward through the
darkness, the faint light in the distance growing larger as he gets
closer. Shepard makes his way out of the
darkness and into a chamber with a single console on one side. Earth can be seen burning through a window to
the left and Anderson is moving out from the right.

“This is Admiral Hackett. Can anyone hear me on the Citadel.”

“This is Shepard. I am going to see if I can open the Citadel.”

“We will start to move the Crucible
into place.”

The console shines to life as
Shepard and Anderson approach. Anderson
starts to work on the console while Shepard scans the room. A short time later a large mechanical thunk
rings through the Citadel and the arms begin to open.

“There that should do it.”

“This is Hackett. We see the Citadel opening and we are moving
the Crucible into place now.”

The Crucible moves into place and
connects with the Citadel. A jarring
vibration moves through the Citadel as the two connect. Hackett’s voice once again sounds over the
com.

“Move the fleet in to protect the
Citadel. The Crucible needs to charge
before it can fire.”

The voice of a crewmember sounds
from behind Hackett.

“Looks like we have a reaper moving
to intercept the Citadel sir. It’s Harbinger.”

An all too familiar voice sounds
behind Shepard and Anderson.

“Shepard! Glad you could make it, but I really can’t
let you destroy the reapers. I need them
to ensure humanities dominance in the galaxy.”

Shepard turns to see an obviously
reaper tech enhanced Illusive man holding a small pistol.

“You’re mad. There is no way to control the reapers. Just listen to yourself. You are playing with powers you don’t
understand.”

“You are the one who doesn’t understand. Humanity has been given a chance to ascend to
the most powerful civilization in the history of the galaxy, and I won’t let
you stand in my way.”

The Illusive mans mechanical eyes
rotate and a slight blue hue shines from behind the circuitry. Shepard and Anderson both turn and start to
raise their weapons at each other. A
look of horror crosses Anderson’s face.

“Shepard, I can’t control this!”

“You see Shepard. I can control the reaper tech, and you.”

“Controling the technology and
controlling a reaper are too different things.
You want to gamble all of humanity on the chance you are right? Let me fire the crucible and we can end this
for sure. Think of cost of failure.”

“I… I don’t think I can do that
Shepard.”

“But you aren’t sure. You aren’t controlling the reapers. They are controlling you. Just listen to yourself.”

“You… maybe… AHHHHH!!!”

The Illusive man screams and the
pistol falls to the ground. A familiar
bright yellow light shines out from his sockets and a deep voice resonates
through the chamber.

“Assuming
direct control.”

“Harbinger!”

“This
has gone on long enough Shepard. We will
not be stopped. The cycle must continue.”

“But
why? What started all of this?”

“We exist
as a necessity. Entropy destroys
everything in the universe. Without
direct intervention chaos will eventually destroy everything. We were designed to reverse that
entropy. Organic life, if left
unchecked, will eventually lead to its own destruction. My creators realized this, and created a
solution to help the organic races ascend back into order. My creators discovered that a cycle exists in
the galaxy. Organic life evolves and
develops through entropy. As this
entropy continues, your species will eventually disappear from the galaxy and
new organic life will take your place.
My creators determined the average life span of a sentient species in
the galaxy before they disappear through chaos is approximately 75,000
years. To avoid losing a sentient
species, the galaxy is harvested every 50,000 years this ensures that no
sentient species will be lost to entropy.”

“What
if we don’t want to be saved? What if we
want to live out our existence and determine our own fate.”

“That
is irrelevant the loss of your species is unacceptable.”

“But
you aren’t saving our species. You are
only taking our genetic code. That isn’t
what makes a person human. Our culture,
our beliefs and our ideals are what make our civilization unique. We are more than just what we are made
of. We have proven that by standing together
as a galactic society to tell you we will not be part of your solution. Humans, Asari, Turian, Quarian, Geth,
Salarian, and Krogan are one civilization now.
We will not be part of your solution.
We will determine our own fate!”

“You
have no choice in the matter. You will
be added to the reapers.”

The Illusive
man’s body convulses as the reaper tech inside him begins to change. His body contorts into a grotesque arachnid
like shape. Nothing human remains in his
form except for his face with glowing yellow eyes. Biotic blasts begin to ripple out from this
nightmarish figure, and particle beams begin to pulse from its eyes. Shepard dives for cover as the blasts hits
between him and Anderson. Anderson skids
over next to the window and lies motionless.
Shepard can’t tell if he is dead or unconscious and has no time to
check. The fight drags on, Shepard desperately
darting from cover to cover around the edge of the circular room. The creatures defenses eventually fall and
Shepard delivers a killing blow with his omni blade. Stabbing through the face of the Illusive
man. The creature explodes, shearing off
parts of Shepards armor and bouncing him across the room to land next to
Anderson. Blood trickles down his face
and arms. Outside the window, Shepard
can see Harbinger writhing from the destruction of its avatar. The fleet moves in on the weakened reaper
making quick work of it. The explosion
fades and Shepard starts to pass out when a soft moan next to him brings him
back to consciousness. Anderson pushes
himself up and looks over at Shepard.

“Shepard!
Are you ok?”

Anderson
crawls over and helps Shepard up off the floor.
The two lean back against a step.
Both look out over the war scarred Earth below.

“I’ve
felt better. Doesn’t look like we saved
much from up here does it?”

“We
saved enough Shepard. We saved what we could…”

Admiral Hackett’s voice sounds over the com.

“The
Crucible is charges, preparing to fire.”

A pop of energy starts at the
center of the citadel. A red wave of
energy begins to cascade outward. As the
energy hits the reapers, their systems begin to overload. The advanced technology and energy powering
them reacts and ignites causing them to writhe as if in pain. As the
wave passes each reaper gives one final death throw before shattering in an explosion. Thousands of these follow in the wake of the
energy wave filling the sky with a bright display of fireworks.

About a year later:

Anderson, Ashley, and James can be
seen standing in front of Big Ben in London.
Construction is apparent, but most of the city is still in ruins. The three can be seen overseeing charts and
giving out orders for the reconstruction.

On the moon overlooking Palaven,
Garrus is seen organizing the reconstruction of his home world with the
Primark.

Liara is on Thessia rebuilding the
Asari temple.

Shepards other crew members can be
seen going about their lives helping their cultures rebuild.

The Salarian home world was
decimated, the combined fleets not making it in time to save them with the
combined Citadel Crucible weapon. The
united races of the galaxy are seen picking through the debris searching for
survivors and helping who they can.

A dark haired Quarian woman stands
outside a domed house on a cliff on Rannoch.
She is looking away, out over the ocean.
In the distance, several building can be seen being built. Quarian and Geth workers scurry about on the
scaffolding. Shepard comes out of the
house with a slight limp and puts his arm around the woman. She nestles her head softly into his shoulder
and the two continue to look out into the setting sun.

Anyone who makes it this far, thank you and tell me what you think. As for the choices in game, I went with curing the genophage and pissed off the Salarians. No help from them in the final battle means the fleet would have taken the citadel to the homeworlds of the present races. This would change based on choices made. With lower levels of readiness, you would lose entire fleets in the final assault. Not enough reinforcments to pull the reaper off your forces after it destroys the portal in the final push would result in some or even all of your former crew dieing. Not enough readiness also means you wont make it to the various homeworlds in time even if you had their support. Low enough and you would even lose Earth and possibly even the whole fight. The readiness level also determines if Anderson and Sheppard die at the end. Hope you enjoyed.

Alright this my endings since I will have multiple based on decisions you make.

Shepard, squad and hammer stand ready to charge the portal just as they begin their charge none other Harbinger comes down (just like in the real game). This time however Harbinger comes down and says in booming voice “Shepard what do you and your allies hope to achieve with this foolish attack.”  This will begin a conversation between Shepard and Harbinger.
Shep. “Is it not obvious were trying to destroy you.”
Har “Foolish idea destroying us will destroy your salvation”
Shep “Salvation you’re exterminating us”
Har “One must be destroyed in order for one to be rebuilt. We were like you once weak and organic but as are technology advanced we sought to solve the problem all organics have. That is the limit of time we fused are bodies with machines and became eternal that is your salvation”
Shep “So reapers were once organics”
Har “As we continued to improve our designs we gained the size you see today and lost the ability to reproduce so we left this galaxy and let the cycle begin organic life would advance as we saw fit they would find the technology we left the citadel and mass relays making it easier for us to return add them to our numbers. The advanced technology would make their populations large making are coming worth the effort. We our here to save the species of this cycle we give them purpose and eternity something all species including the Geth desire.
Shep. “So your nothing special just another species trying to survive”
Har “That is were you are wrong most species survive by destroying their competition we are saving you from death and uncertainty.”
Shep “But you don’t give us a choice. Some may enjoy the limited time they get as makes life mean more”
Har “meaningless statement  if you will not except to explanation I have given you to except this argument instead consider what we are doing payment for using the technology we gave you. You say you what choice Shepard then we will give you that what will you decide will you join us now or will delay the inevitable”
Here the player can choose to join the reapers or fight against Harbinger. If the player joins the reapers that would basically end the game but leaving cool opportunity for some DLCs with you fighting for the Reapers. If you choose to fight Harbinger then it will star a boss battle where victory is also depended on how high the player EMS was. If not high enough it result in Reaper victory regardless. (which would have its own cut scene ending) After you defeat Har there will be large explosion that will knock Shep out he/she will awake wounded staring at the fallen Harbinger as you slowly make your way to the portal to get to the citadel. Harbinger will speak his last words basically saying that his defeat means nothing. If the player has high enough paragon or renegade they will have the option to convince Harbinger he was wrong if they do Harbinger will order the reapers to leave without ever having to fire the crucible. If they don’t convince Har then they will go into portal. After making their way to the console like the real game they see TIM and Anderson pointing their guns at one another. TIM arguing to use the Crucible to control the reapers and Anderson to destroy them the player will pick to shoot TIM which means agreeing with Anderson or shoot Anderson agreeing with TIM. Agreeing with TIM results in Humans controlling the Reapers and making all other alien races their slaves. Siding with Anderson results in another choice which will be to decide to sacrifice yourself or Anderson to activate the Crucible and destroy the Reapers. The Reapers will explode resulting many more casualties and the loss any new reaper technology. The following ending ill show all the races working together to rebuild and Shepard and his crew helping(if Shepard was not sacrificed). Both of these ending will be followed by an epilogue explaining the consequences of your choices such as if Urdnot Wreav is the Krogan leader and not Wrex then the Krogans started another war if you cured the genophage. Sorry for it being rather long but just another option for an ending. Also TIM will only be succesful at controling the Reapers if you decided to keep the Collector Base otherwise it would result in a Reaper victory.

well it looks like my thread is gone somewhere so that is "my" canon ending :D

Some preinfos before i start telling you "my-canon-ending". my team is Garrus and Tali and here are standing in front of this "beaming-thing" which is sending the bodys to the citadel. my shepi is a female. she was full para through all games. and made peace between the geth and the quarians. every former "companion" is alive...well except kaiden so let us star writing^^

shepi: ok, this is it. we didnt came this far to fail now. no "hero-action" we getting out alive.
garrus: i will remember you on that in....lets say 2 min?
tali: you know what she means.
shepi: ok then lets go.
As they step through the beam they find themself in the "dead-corridor"
tali: oh my...
garrus: you are right, somebody should sue the interior architect
tali: garrus!
garrus: what? the illumination is horrible.
shepi: dont let your guards down and garrus, i might have to punch you later for that.
garrus: i didnt do anything
shepi: ....
garrus: alright, sorry.....
tali: Movement!
shepi: it is just a keeper...i dont even know what they are doing here...and i dont want to.
the next room is white and bright. nothing is in it besides one console. as soon as shepi comes closer a figure appears.
figure: Ksdi's 's Hisi Los'jol ks. Lasjorn 'tras.
garrus: it looks like the drink last night was stronger then i though.
tali: i didnt understood a word too.
figure: (mechanical voice) synchronise language....please standby.
tali: what does it do?
shepi: i have know idea.
garrus: neither do i.....
figure: synchronise complete. welcome.
shepi: what.....who are you?
the figure now looks like a human.
figure: to comfort you i will know appear as a human. i am a Tsjal. we were the creators of the, as you call them, reapers.
shepi: what do you mean "as you call them" and why did you create a species as hostile as them?
figure: through time, the "reapers" had many names. we called them "Jk'ols" what means slave in your language.
shepi: slaves...are you kidding me?
tali: they are slaves...how can that be?
garrus:..i think they have been slaves...
figure: correct. the first "reapers" were tools. some were smal, some were as big as ,what you call, a house.
tali: what happened?
figure; according to my timestamp 67 million years ago, a devastating electromagnetic storm hit the homeplanet. my people where obliterated. through our exploit of the resources the air was poisend, and with the airvents gone it was only a matter of hours. the ai controlling the "reapers" did what it always did. keeping the order. but through an error in the main system it didnt longer know what is order or chaos. it asumed everything that is not order must be chaos and as the ai know "itself" is order so in return everthing else must be chaos.
garrus: but that doesnt explain why they have space ships?
figure: to keep the order beyond the borders the ai need it to go in space. my people where able to travel faster then light and our homeplanet had the biggest fleet of all time and space. gladly just a small part of them where at the homeplanet at this time, and the damage was little from the storm. soon after the fleet was repaired the ai began to attack. our military didnt had a chance. somehow the reapers know our emergency frequency code and know where our fleet was. the "reapers" attacked the planets with the lowest defences first and when your military arrived the attacked a nother planet and so our forces where split. more and more ships where lost to an..after our fleet was destroyed the "reapers" began to take the ships to the home planet and repaired them. but it took some time the repair the biggest fleet ever known. our last hope was this building. we builded the citadel with a failsave. but we didnt had a chance to
finish it. you are the first beeings who ever made it this far. you even build the final part for the fail save.
garrus: the biggest fleet ever known? how long did that take to repair them?
figure:...50.000 years.
shepi: that explains something....
figure: after the ai had finished repairing it began to look for new chaos in the galaxie. if it found one it did what the ai was programed for. bring order to the chaos.
tali: what happend to your people?
figure: the war took 1 million years. there where just a handful of us left. so we took off to a nother galaxie.
garrus: so you are not even from this galaxie?
figure: that is correct.
tali: whait whait whait....where did your people go........how long was it?
figure: according to the timestamps just one ship made it. but it crashed on the planet you call "earth"
shepi: when was that?
figure:...65 million years ago.
shepi: did they survived?
figure:....unkown.
shepi:....well we can talk later....because know i have a million questions but we have to stop the reapers first.
figure: agreed. on that console is the failsave. it has to be activated manualy. it is a closed circle. otherwise i would have been able to activate it.
shepi: what happens then?
figure: the failsave will send a virus to the "reapers" it will destroy every chip and the link to the ai will be lost. so the "reapers" die.
garrus: but it will take a lot of energy to transmit this virus.
figure: every "reapers" is connected to any. the virus will be spread within minutes through the galaxie.
shepi: ok..lets do this.
shepis is doing what the figure is helling her.
figure: it just takes a few moments till the virus is send. i want to thank you. we never wanted what happened. the blood of uncountable many species are on our hands.
mechanical voice: error not enough energy.
figure: looks like i can still be repay something.
tali: you can do that?
figure: yes. because i am not an ai. a am a living mind. connected to the citadel millions of years ago.
shepi: what will happened to the citadel when you are gone?
figure: nothing, i was never in important systems anyway. but i was able to watch. every "unknown" cameramovement was me. waiting for the day somebody would free the universe from the "reapers". goo oo oodd bbb bb byy... .. ...
mechanical voice: upload complet. sending virus now....
shepi: somebody should call joker...we might need a ride.

back on earth. a reaper stands in front of andesons hq charging the beam. wrex and anderson are behind a peace of concrete.
anderson: do you think the concrete will hold
wrex: yes
anderson:..... are you lying?
wrex: yes. how about we give him hell....we are going to die anyway.
anderson: agreed.
they turn to the reaper but he is standing there. the beam seems to be offline. no movement whatsoever.
wres: is it sleeping?
anderson: i dont think they sleep.
the reaper is falling to the side. other reapers in the background are falling too.
wrex: i think she did it....
he screams
wrex: do you hear me shepard, you did it!!
a solider runs to anders
solider: reports are coming in, all over the world... reapars are.....just ...well it seems they are just dying where they stand.
we see someplanets where people are dancing on the dead reapers. we see the normandy landing. thousands of people dancing and cheering for the crew. all sort of species are there. and all are celebrating the victory.
admiral hackett and anderson are walking to the normandy. shepard jumps out and the crowed cheers even more.
hackett: well done, admiral shepard.
shepi: i think it is still commander? and...aren't there some ranks between?
hackett: after all you have done, not only for humanity, for the galaxy, i think that a promotion to admiral is about time, dont you think anderson.
anderson: you bet your ass. well done admiral.
shepi: if you say so. then there is still one thing to do.
anderson: and what is that?
shepi hugs anderson and hackett
shepi: we did it.
anderson: no. you did it.
*it fades out*

Since moderator Stanley Woo locked this related thread, I'm posting here some of its excellent suggestions:

ActingGuy1 wrote...
After you make your choice, you see a video of soldiers running around London, taking cover, and then being affected by your war score.  Either they jump up and cheer, they narrowly avoid death while Big Ben blows up, or they are burned to crisp (as is all of Earth.)

Why are we being shown random soldiers?

A very simple solution:  It should have been our squad members.  Minus  the two who SHOULD have died from the beam (in my game, it mysteriously  showed me Ashley had survived and made it to the crash landing of the
Normandy).  Show me Garrus taking cover, show me James being burned to a crisp, whatever.  It can't possibly cost more than the video you already made.  It should have simply had our characters in it.  Then we'd know if they were alive, dead, whatever.

Another elegant solution is:

Aim1essgun wrote..
You know that beautiful moment you get with Anderson, dying and looking  down at a ruined earth, but knowing that your task is complete, that the reapers are defeated?

Just go straight from that to the some footage of the citadel activating, and then thereapers being destroyed, and roll credits.

That one got lots of support, along  with this additional suggestion:

lavosslayer wrote...
I agree that would have been almost perfect...then instead of stargazer at the end, have Liara's time capsule be found years later and hear her talk about Shep and all the people/Squad Members who affected the outcome...

What I find most appealing about those alternatives is that they're possible, even now. Adding the voiceover by Liara requires more studio time, but it's only one voice actress and minimal animation. The rest of the suggestion requires simple editing.

Games frequently have patches to fix gameplay issues. Why not fix story, too?

This was in a locked thread and very similar was very much along the lines of what I was thinking so I thought I'd repost it, as it'd be a very elegant/fitting ending... Original: http://social.biowar...9721457#9721749

ALso, Normandy crashes on Alpha Centauri B.

I would have cut all that "kid being the Catalyst" thing out and just had Shepard press the button on the terminal, killing all the reapers, then he/she is suddenly beamed down right before it fired, destroying the reapers and itself in the process. Then Shepard would have walked out of the rubble, greeted his squad mates, give a monologue, and have it end from there. It would sound a lot better if I actually had the will to describe in detail what I want. But seeing as though its pointless, I really don't feel like it.

I would have also had an epic battle with Harbinger. All they do is mention him and then you see him, then get blown up by him. I want to fight him.

I would have argued with the catalyst that chaos wasn't so bad, and that there is order within it, so we don't need their intervention, their interference makes no sense. The catalyst would say, huh, never thought of it that way, guess we'll buggar off then.. Um.. Just take the stairs down, eh?

We've found out what the Crucible does. It's a mass effect interference array designed to reduce the effectiveness of all kinetic barriers for a large area. Weapon systems and systems internal to ships are unaffected. We think using this will improve our ability to destroy Reapers in the battle. However, it won't be enough. With data collected from ex-Cerberus and our Quarian/Geth allies, we're going to try something. It may seem foolish, but it's our best chance.

We're going to steal a Reaper. Or several, actually. We've also finished a method to resist indoctrination and are incorporating it into personal shields. We'll send out boarding parties to the enemy dreadnoughts and attempt to replace their core with friendly AI that turn their weapons against the remaining targets. We want you, Commander Shepard, to lead one of these teams. Specifically, we're hoping you can take out Harbinger.

Haha hijacking a reaper would be hilariously appropriate for renegade shep.

"I know you feel this, Harby" *rips out a bunch of wires*

Cutscene:

The Reapers depart/blow up/vanish.

On Earth, in the rubble, Liara and Tali sit on the ground, leaning on one another. Liara is weeping uncontrollably and Tali has her arm around her. Nearby, Garrus sits alone on a chunk of rubble, hands on his knees, looking at the ground. Kaidan/Ashley is wrapping gauze around the leg of a wincing James. EDI, if she's alive, stands behind, looking perplexed.

A mud/blood-smeared human mother and child emerge from a nearby ruined building, the child clutching a broken toy Normandy. The child runs over to Liara and offers her the toy. Liara looks at the child, then the toy, takes it, and makes a weak smile. She begins to look around. She sees a pair of krogan, kneeling over a dying turian, trying to make his last moments comfortable. She sees Jack berating her biotic students for carelessness. She sees Jacob coordinating medical staff to care for the wounded and collect the dead. A geth and a quarrian are trying to repair a generator.

Liara looks up at the sound of an approaching aircraft. It's the Normandy. As it lands, the sunrise appears over the horizon, highlighting a broken and ruined skyline. The crew's silhouettes are backlit by the sun as they stand to approach the Normandy, while to the side we see more human civilians slowly emerge from the ruins.

Cue original Mass Effect theme.

I hesitate to get into specifics because a lot of the elements from the ending, even the unpopular ones could have worked better than they did.

In general terms though, I will say that the most important thing would be to make sure the different endings had substantially different tones. Compare this ending to ME1 for example. In that game, approximately the same thing happens regardless of your paragon or renegade choices. A fleet of ships destroy Sovereign. But the events surrounding that main event change the theme of the ending substantially.

Here, that's not really the case. Any way you slice it, you end up Joker and company strring off into the unknown future. The Sythesis ending is the only "happy" ending, but only because it is somewhat easier to believe that all of the problems arising from the vagueness of the ending (the Galactic fleet stranded on earth, the Normandy crashed... again, the unknown condition of... well... everyone except Joker and the two other people who stand next to them) will somehow work themselves out... maybe.

instead of it being the little kid talking to shepard, I would have had it been whoever the first people where to put themselves into the reapers. other than that, nothing.

I feel like they were on the right track.  Running to the Citadel, your two squad mates are killed.  This makes your choice of squad important...and probably kills the two characters you liked most.  This is okay, because it's the end of the series anyway...and makes you feel heart-wrenching guilt that they died...but also ready to go down kicking some serious ass.  This is how I felt when I THOUGHT they were dead, only to discover one of them still alive in the crash scene.  Pfft.

So you're badly beaten, bloody, broken, but you get into the Citadel.  Meet up with Anderson, you bring down TIM, Anderson dies, Hackett calls, you can't figure it out, you collapse, the elevator raises you into the air.  This is all gold.

But then no bull**** with GodBoy.  YOU are the catalyst.  One of the definitions of "catalyst" is a person or thing that precipitates an event or change.  Does that remind you of anyone you know?

So somehow, you have to be the one to ignite the weapon that destroys the Citadel and the Reapers.  Who survives and who dies depends on your choices through the series, including your war score.  We see cut scenes showing who is alive.  We see cut scenes showing who is dead.  Hackett gives a speech to the survivors, and your name (with anyone else's) is added to the Memorial on the Normandy.

Fin.

I thought I saw them in my first play through, but I was apparently wrong...for no reason. Why wouldn't they join me? This is the last ditch effort. Every character ever should be running to the Citadel. JOKER should be running to the Citadel. ;c)

Ok here's what happens to my shepard. Im ignoring BW's
Synthesis. The other 2 can remain whatever dont care.
Shepard walks toward the beam thinking about the past flashback to crew previous games end of1 and 2 etc. Stops at the edge and looks into the beam. Closes eyes and starts to leap then hears javik's voice. "Every cell contains your essence" Pauses. opens eyes looks down to left hand at the blood covering it. clenches fist and the blood wells out, thrusts the hand forward flinging my blood into the beam. As the drops fall they synthesize and the crucible activates. Grean light explodes cut to shep and the child looking at each other. Child say's "We knew after we destroyed our creators we were incomplete, which is why we created the crucible Only a race that could build it and bring it here would be able to make the choice we needed." Flash beam hits mass relays they spin faster, stop then beam the energy out (NOT blowing up) Flash dissapates you see the reapers take off from earth cut back to shepard now standing next to the fully fleshed child. Child says "we both have much to learn about what we have ascended too" Fade to black
text saying what happens to your crew and the aftermath of the galaxy. You and LI get together have babies Now possible no matter species due to all having synthetic commonality Etc etc etc. THIS IS MY ENDING!

Well I was thinking after a few hours of rest after the completion of my
first run on ME3 on ideas to get endings that satisfy most of the
people without major changes on the game's plot... So I found three nice
ideas based on the three basic endings.

Pre-ending.... First of
all, After Harbinger zaps you, you get injured but go to the citadel
with your companions and still in fighting condition... Yes, you get the
scene with Timmy but you need a lot of reputation and having the right
choices to save your friends and Anderson... After Timmy's deat (And
possibly Anderson and your two companions) you get to the conversation
with the guardian, he explains his motives (Better motives, for example
that they're trying to protect us from some sort of galactic disaster or
somthing like that) and then you get the choices below.... Note, in the
first two endings you get

1- Paragon Ending... You tell to the
guardian that you choose to be free and engage de upcoming disaster by
ourselves, then you kill him but he calls Harbinger and you get a
massive fight against Suidward Tentacles...After defeating this big guy
with some sort of Innusannon weapon to kill reapers (one hell of a
fight), you destroy the reapers once and for all after engaging the
"destruction mode" of the crucible and you get rescued by Joker before
the explosion... In the Aftermath you get a hero reception in Earth with
everyone drinking beer around the galaxy and you get your Piña-Colada
ending and start to prepare a strategy to the upcoming disaster.

2-
Renegade Ending... You tell the guardian that it's time for a new
administration and that you choose to use the reaper fleet to your own
purposes, you try to kill him, but like in the other ending he calls
Squidward, but now you tame him with some evil Timmy's weapon (Harder
battle with a lot of minions running around)... After taming Harbinger
you order him to kill the guardian, he obeys and then you connect the
weapon with the crucible to send the control signal wich also affects
EDI and the Geth.... Then, here's an inflexion point... you can choose
to join forces with the other races (This depends on your treats with
them, a hostile race will try to take the technology and you would be
forced to kill them, otherwise by fear they will support you as new
landlord of Milky Way) or Killing them all and use all that technology
only for humans or your own purposes.... In the end you look at some
sort of screen in Harbinger's (Your new flagship) the construction of
new reapers from the exterminated races in order to fight the upcoming
disaster.

3- Absolute Perfect Ending... Basically the same, you
get the conversation with the guardian, but now he see your great skills
and accept the fact that you've exceeded their expectations... so he
propose you an alliance to achieve the ultimate stage of evolution;
Synthesis.... Now, in these part, Harbinger gets angry and take the
guardian as a traitor and kills him... Now you get the hardest battle
(These requires a maximum ammount of assets, a lot of dreadnoughts to
fight the angry reapers and a lot of supporting soldiers... In the end,
with all the reapers and the galactic fleet in an all-in mexican
standoff you need to kill a enormous army of minions (Harvesters and
such) and then the Harbinger's avatar (personificated by a very powerful
Kai Leng who had survived on Timmy's base) and after killing him, Joker
makes the grace shot with the very calibrated Thanix Cannon of the
Normandy... With Harbinger's death, the other reapers realized the
potential of the union and accepts a treaty... In here, there's also
inflexion points.

*You blow off the treaty and
destroy them (You don't achieve the perfect ending... this choice get a
lot of people death.
           * You blow off the treaty and control
them (this choice requires a lot of alliance assets and a lot of
renegade points or you will die)
           * You accept the deal,
the reapers join to the crucible and make a even more powerful
machine... then you join to the machine (No death, it's not like jumping
to the light beam)... After that, Every single living being on the
galaxy (even reapers) have a new DNA (One third it's from their original
DNA, and the second third build with traces of every single species
turned into reapers and the last third by syntethic DNA)

If you
chose the last one, now there's peace, you get the ending with all that
blue little children you promised, both organic and machines (now the
same) starts to rebuild the galaxy in order to fight together the
upcoming disaster.

Just ideas, but I think they are quite interesting and do not need to alter the game pre-TIM base.
