I was at 6500, but because I did not play online my score is cut in half at 3250. The 2 best endings require 4000 and 5000. I do not see how it is possible to get 10,000 so I can get 5000 for the best ending. As far as I can tell, multiplayer is required.

Are you sure you need 4000 and 5000? I'm only at like 2000 (effective military strength so 4000 total military strength) or something and the bar is almost full. A full bar implies the best ending no?

What's your source indicating that 10,000 is required to get the 'optimal' ending?

I had a full bar w/ out MP

That implies that the "best" ending is the destroy ending where Shep lives... somehow, wich I concider the renegade ending. I did almost everything (all sidemissions, planet scanning, etc) and still did not reach EMS 4000. Given, I lost Miranda and did destroy the collector base in ME2, but I still doubt you can ever reach EMS 5000 without MP.

Yes, found an article from Bioware saying EMS determines the ending. I had 3250 because it was cut from not playing multiplayer and got the 2800+ ending

A full bar does not imply the best ending. There's a "myth" (I'll believe it when I see it) regarding the "perfect" ending that would require between 4k and 5k EMS.

4k and 5k EMS endings are said to happen from IGN, The Official Strategy Guide, and Bioware themselves, it is not a myth.

Bio devs have confirmed -- see Jarrett Lee's sticky above -- that you don't need MP to get the optimal ending. This might mean that there's a sub-optimal ending that results from the higher EMS you can get with MP. But that would be awfully weird.

Ive done (to my knowledge) everything so far and im in the 6000+ range (3200ish effective if I recall). Just did the "temple" (to avoid spoilers) main story mission so I think im almost finished.

Not sure how im gonna get to 4-5k without MP.

mind you can get to 100% readiness in about 4 hours of MP so if you just want to be sure it doesnt take much and MP is pretty fun imo

They did say it would be more challenging.  There's likely optimization in how to progress through the campaign.

I got the perfect ending and hadn't done any MP at the time, had about 4.1k EMS.

I did every single side mission, and got almost every possible War Asset I could, and I still ended up 3522 because of my massive reduction due to Galactic Readiness.

You've gotta play multiplayer to get 5k. No way could I have gotten 5k without it.

It's somewhat unbelievable that no one in the community has managed. 'Damn near impossible' things in BioWare games typically happen a day or so after release.

That's great. People have been asking about this. If you could provide a walkthrough for people in the gameplay forum, it would be greatly appreciated.

Doing all side missions does not guarantee you did them all,   I did them all, but clearly I missed some based on the timing, because there were characters I never even saw.   Some will not be available if you wait to long.

you can do it, you just got to be careful to do all side missions you gret before main quests and the like, visit the citadel often, walk around you ship, very often. things like that

 heres a POSSITIVE LOOK on the endings debate


if the multiplayer 100% thing is true maybe bioware is trying to have the fans basicly not only work but give more of a role in the mass effect universe by playing the mp.


think about it your trying to get every species to work with you and in mp you get to play them

on another note maybe bioware wanted to give us more replay value and also wants us to work harder by obtaining that golden ending in mp

im already at 77% in mp with a saved shepard that has over 3 thousand military strengh

hopefully by saturday ill complete mp on 100% then use my latest sheprard to get the best ending i can

Please tell me you're not shocked by this? Even with Bioware saying otherwise? I'm certainly not.
