Didn’t occur to actually SAY that in your first post instead of saying what you did – which doesn’t at all equal any sites talking about gay relationships instead of the crappy endings.

I agree that all reviewers should also be focusing on the absolutely abhorrent ending of the games.

I don’t see how this has anything to do with the gay romance, however, or whether or not Shep was bisexual, bicurious, gay, heterosexual, asexual, transsexual, or anything else from the get-go. Shep is what the player makes her, or him, out to be. Don’t need it to be any other way. Don’t point towards that and blame that for the horrible ending or for the failure of journalist to take notice of it.

Most likely, most reviewers just weren’t very emotionally invested in the game, or didn’t even finish it so they latch on to what small controversial thing they can see and run with it. The fact that gay romance is in the game is a step forward and shouldn’t have any impact on the gameplay of someone playing their character straight.

I ran through the entire second game without picking up any romances at all for my Shep and I never found the interactions with ANY characters to bother me even if my Shep didn’t have any romantic interest in them.

Unless they pin her down and assault her and I have no choice to turn them down, I doubt it ever would.

I'm definitely cool with Bioware's decision to add gay/lesbian romances. It's a video game, let people play how they want. Why not?

Shepherd is heterosexual.

But Shepard's sexuality is up to the player.

TO BE FAIR....

It is clear from the PC version (suppressed coding) that the devs always intended for Shepard to be gay/straight based on the choice of the player. Fear of controversy is why they striped it from ME. People with PCs could edit the save file to "trick" the game into letting them pursue a homosexual male/male love interest.

ME2 overreacted to the (IMHO) pointless controversy over sex in the game so that everyone did the deed with their clothes on.

ME3 just lets the player have the choice without having to find a workaround to force the option open. I'm sure there will be those who are offended by it, but I felt ME made a mistake in NOT letting the player have the choice. Keep in mind that the game is rated M (17+ to buy) and if they were really concerned they could have put in some kind of software lock on the romance interests so that the game owner had to register for a code to override.

Or, third option:

They were PAID by bioware to give the game good reviews.

Which seems to be the prevalent theory at the moment.

But again, you're right. I worded my first post poorly...it was mainly a wtf at bioware.

That makes you a bigot sir.

well hey i don't want my shepard as a white guy either. why isn't your shepard asian or black? is your shep gay myne isn't that's kinda part of the game. I get to chose who my shepard has a relationship with isn't that the whole point of the game. rejecting miranda or tali and stcking with jack.

why in the hell would you reject miranda?

Have you seen dat ass sir?

But no seriously, I get your point.

Like I said before, it's not about the gay issue...even though trolls on here are calling me a bigot now without reading my subsequent posts.

My op was worded poorly, unforunately. What's being focused on in the news for Mass Effect isn't the fact that the fans feel jipped out of the ending and 6 years (I think it's 6 now) of story....

It's that Shep could possibly enjoy sex with the same sex. OMGWTFBBQSAUCE how groundbreaking...

Really guys?

Yea, it is because the Company does not want the media to focus on the
One major negitive thing just days after release, if you think about it
this is becoming a PR nightmere.  So they shift the focus to somthing
that will grab every ones attention and controversial according to
today's media, same sex male relations in a video game.  Common buisnuss
tactic to buy alittle more time so that they can figure out what to do
with us about the endings.

yoshibb, you're only counting the options that can be continued in ME3.

The ME2 romance options are still viable; male players can still continue a relationship with Tali and females can still continue a relationship with Garrus. Furthermore, even the "cameo romances" still acknowledge the relationship (Miranda and male Shepard have heartwarming dialogue, for example, and so do female Shepard and Thane).

Yes, that was my point, unless you played ME2 you only have one option as a straight female. Also, aside from Garrus, the ME2 romances end miserably for femshep. I think Thane's makes sense cause he was already dying but Jacob is just... wow.

Fair enough, ma'am but since I mentioned Garrus, my point was you actually have TWO romances that fit your standards, not just one.

Also, I should point out that not all male Shepard romances work out either. Kelly for example ends up having to hide from Cerberus so as much as she wants to be with Shepard, she can't continue the relationship.

Jack is too busy in her new job, and the amount of romance dialogues she has are minimal compared to Miranda for example.

And the Miranda relationship isn't perfect either; Miranda and Shepard can't pick up where they left off right off the bat because Cerberus is in the way.

Also, what do you mean when you mention Jacob? I haven't imported my "female shepard romanced jacob" playthrough yet, but from the wiki my understanding is that Jacob only hooks up with Brynn Cole the scientist if you didn't romance him. That doesn't sound like the Jacob romance is so bad to me.

I'm not anti-gay...but really guys? You spend 2 games building up the fact that Shepherd is obviously heterosexual...and then you pander to a very small special interest group and allow Shepherd to be gay?

Word?

You had time for that...but not enough time to write an ending that made sense?

Word?

actually if you replay me1 you can skip having a love interest by not even talking with them.............

so to an extent shepard can be gay

Same-sex romances can be discussed in our Characters and Romance forum. Thank you.

End of line.
