That may be fine for marathon players who have no work or school to divide their play sessions with, but it does not work out very well for me.
I know I stopped playing yesterday to do some work on another me1 character and when I picked up the game today, the twenty (exaggeration) missions that I had confused the hell out of me....
I spent more time trying to find out where I was going (and in some cases, where I have already been) than I did completing the actual quests them selves....
If you would please kindly patch the journal sometime in the future I would be grateful.

What the heck was wrong with the ME2 system, it was intuitive, it worked perfectly...?
I guess the idea behind this new ME3 version is that Bioware thought it would be 'fun' to make us randomly scan through every single system and cluster until we get lucky and stumble upon the assignment location.
In addition, I seem to have a whole bunch of assignments for the Citadel, speak to this guy, find that guy.. all in my personal log, but no mention of them in the journal. Presumably I'm suppose to rely upon memory?
edit: I've finally discovered a system for completing the side missions - Basically type the name of it into Google, and read results until you find one that actually mentions the location. Will use this method throughout the rest of the game, as life is just too short to scan random locations on a pot-luck basis until I hit the mark.
Completely throws me out of the game, and shatters immersion, but needs must.
I'd personally say that this journal issue is actually game breaking, for me at least.

Anyway, what I got to doing was, when I'd find an artifact or something on a quest, I'd go to the Citadel, pop open the map, look for a name on the map of someone that wasn't a crewman or NPC that is always around and then I'd go find the person and it was usually the person that needed the item I just got. Otherwise, that journal is a disaster compared to ME1 and ME2 journals. Talk about a failure to heed the old saying, "If it ain't broke, don't fix it."

The journal is absolute garbage. No updates? No acknowledgement that a quest has been completed beyond greyed out text?
How could they have screwed it up this bad?

Bioware is forcing me to use the wikis. Great.

The main thing I hate is that I can't select a current mission...instead I'm constantly bumping into npc's that are part of other side missions that I'm not focused on...it mixes everything up.
The other thing that bothers me: when I first started receiving side quests I was excited to tackle them...then I find out that some of them are just that flying and scanning mini game.
Bioware stop changing stuff that wasn't broken in the first place.

I figured out a method. I just use the map as much of humanly possible.
yeah I started doing the map thing aswell...it shows what main characters and quest characters are in your current location...that helps a bit.

That's the only issue I have with ME3. Disappointing in that department but so fulfilling and rewarding in every other way. Loving the characters, quests..quests that have MEANING (look it up BW, refresh your memory and lose the stupid 'I eavesdrop, I deliver' shiz).

You have to go back to the Spectre office once you done the evacuation of Benning. You can buy the information about him there or something like that.
This is actually just a back-up. There a number of quest items laying around in sidemissions or N7 mission maps, but it's easy to miss them. If you complete a given mission without getting something in it, those items--including quest items--will become available for purchase at Spectre Requisitions.

I hate the Journal too, but it makes it so you have to EXPLORE the galaxy and see whats out there, not just X to Y then back to X.
I wouldn't say flying through a solar system hammering "scan" qualifies as exploration.
Had the journal worked properly, sidequests might not have been such a ****ing chore. As it stands, it just exacerbates the issues with the crappy fetch quests and mind numbing scanning.

Well who would care about searching in depth for something that you don't even know sometimes where to get. Especially when you can buy it for 1000 credit
