I'm wondering how I should go about completing missions - it sounds like the Priority missions should be done first since... they have priority in their name. But I'm pretty sure at least some of them will move on the story which I can't help but think might make some missions unavailable. Should I go for the non-priority missions first, generally?

lol do the priority missions last.
you do them first you wont have any time for the side missions. PLus a lot of them will go away if you do them late
annnnd side missions = Millitary assets. So yeah, do them!

It's a bit counter-intuitive: Priority missions are main quest missions. They don't expire. Do them last.
Not like DE:HR, or post-IFF-ME2, where occasionally if you dick around, bad stuff happens.

Priority missions are the main plot missions. So do them only when you have run out of other sidequests and exploring to do. They don't expire or anything.

Bad bad bad things happen like the bomb going off in Tuchanka, everyone in Grissom academy dying, a full Quarian fleet getting wiped off etc if you do priority mission first.

Ah, I rather suspected that was what it was.
Thanks everyone... oh, two other (unrelated) question, I'll put it here so I don't clog up the topic lists unnecessarily - where can I get more fuel for the Normandy? I don't see any of those fuel stations.
Also I've got a mission to go to the Shrike Abyssal but I can't seem to find it or Xe Cha (the system with the Mass Relay in the Shrike Abyssal) on my map.

Fuel comes from spelunking through the galaxy you find the destroyed stations by pinging the maps.
also there are quite a few stations left if you're stranded. Just ping around the galaxy till you find one.
for example, the place where you hold the summit never gets invaded by reapers and will always have a full feul station.
edit: dunno about the last one.
the quests dont do a very good job of explaining where to go and what to do...so you have to get creative, i didn't finish a lot of side quests because i was either to wrapped up in the main quest or couldn't figure it out.

Took awhile for Shrike Abyssal to show up for me after I got a quest to go there. It only ended up showing up after I finished a Priority mission. The quest didn't expire or anything and all was fine.
