If you are having a crash issue with Mass Effect 3 you may need to download a patched version of the awc.dll in your game’s EACore folder.

Here’s the instructions:
  • 1. Make sure Origin and your game are not running.
  • 2. Download this file here: https://download.dm....sertest/awc.zip
  • 3. Unzip or extract the contents to your desktop.
  • 4. Navigate to the binaries\\core folder. Mass Effect 3 default is: C:\\Program Files (x86)\\Origin Games\\Mass Effect 3\\Binaries\\Win32\\Core
  • 5. Make a backup copy of your AWC.dll.
  • 6. Move the new awc.dll file from your desktop into the directory listed above.
  • 7. Now run Origin and launch your game from Origin.
Please let us know if this resolves your issue.

Thanks

That one link above seems to be wrong, no biggie.

Get both files linked in the quote below
and please provide feedback to the devs either way:

Let me know if this fixes it for you.

Thanks!

Also check if your windows installation/ user account setup uses the default folder location (for system and/ or document folders, otherwise the game might not be able to create or read the profile/ config/ savegame files where it needs to/ expects them to be).

nothing on my computer has changed from last night either. I assume the

For me it was a broken documents folder link in: "currrent_userSoftwareMicrosoftWindowsCurrentVersionExplorerUser Shell Folders"

First
make sure you have a documents folder in your Win7 profile, top right
of start menu. Also make sure you have no problems with your 'Personal'
folder. See 'thestarryskyisthelimit' here:
http://answers.micro...eb-ef3fe7d24893

Once
I repaired my documents folder link (just having a folder called my
documents or adding it to the documents library isn't enough) I could
use the DLC.

Neither of the above files makes any difference. Cannot start. I have this entry in my Application Event log:

Faulting application name: MassEffect3.exe, version: 1.1.5427.4, time stamp: 0x4f46d052
Faulting module name: msvcrt.dll, version: 7.0.7601.17744, time stamp: 0x4eeaf722

Faulting process id: 0x178c
Faulting application start time: 0x01ccfe43c3842a7b

Faulting module path: C:\\Windows\\syswow64\\msvcrt.dll
Report Id: 02aa4b2b-6a37-11e1-9431-005056c00008

I've cleaned out all old VC runtimes and installed the latest available for both x86 and x64 but of course the problem persists.

Unbelievable - is this 1998 or something?

I still have this problem, even after following all of the advice I have found in this forum. This includes: reinstalling ME3 (from disc and from origin), repair install, reinstalling origin and then ME3, starting Origin or ME3 as administrator, and of course the replacement dll files (including restarting after replacing the files). The other tips also did not work for me: I deleted the "Mass Effect 3" folder with no change. Occasionally, after replacing the files, Origin will complain that the game is corrupted.

Two things I should note: despite installing Origin fresh from the download site this morning, I still don't have a logs directory in the Origin directory, only a logReader.html. Also, the error I get for the awc.dll shows that it is still version 3.2.4.6 (the same version as the one before replacing it).

I am using 8.5.0.4554-144681.

Also, to clarify my older post, when I referred to replacement dll files, I am referring to awc.dll and EACore.dll.

My game was running fine 2 days ago. Now, with no changes to my machine, I get 2 seconds of black screen for my $60. This is NOT ACCEPTABLE. I am running WinXP SP3. I've reinstalled Origin. I replaced those two files. My Local_Profile.sav file is not 0 bytes. While checking that, I noticed that the <user>/My Documents/BioWare/Mass Effect 3/binaries/Win32 folder is empty. Is something supposed to be there? What is going on here???

added: All is well now. One item missing from your instructions - REBOOT your computer. Apparently it IS 1998, at least in this part of the woods. (You do remember having to reboot every single time you made any sort of change to your computer, don't you?)

This solution might help you as we try to solve the problem on this end. Also check to see if you have any antivirus software running, there have been a few reports that some AV programs interfere with Origin. Disable it only temporarily, of course.

Had the same issues...Nothing worked...Reinstall, eacore.dll and awc.dll copy...repair install.
I was about to reinstall my windows 7 (64bit) again, then it dawned on me, that several other games have problems with a multi display setup. Posted Image

I have 3 screens attached to my pc (ATI gpu).
So what worked for me:

  • Disabled 1 monitor (in the windows7 screen resolution screen).
  • Start the game (YAY it works!) Posted Image
If i enable the third monitor, the game bounces to another monitor, while my mouse controls stay on the original monitor. (might have something to do with the monitor ordering in de AMD Catalyst control center).

The game just won't start with 3 monitors enabled. Please fix this. ME3 isn't by far the only game with issues with 3 monitors, it is however one of the few that won't even start after launching it once (with one monitor enabled) and then enabling all the other monitors...Posted Image

Hope this helps others...

Thanks Oaquasis, you are a champ for making this discovery!  I tried every other trick in the book (pretty much gave up) but it did not even cross my mind to disable 1 of my 3 monitors..

good luck to the others.. agree this should be fixed in the next patch now that we've identified it.
wow, can finally play this great game!  Posted Image  time to take back earth.. Posted Image

Sadly the awc and EACore dll replacements were a step backwards. I'd got my machine to reach the authentication screen after launching, then it gave me a not valid user response, and crashed if I pressed any other options.

Now it says I'm playing in Origin....but there is nothing, and ME3 does not even show in Task Manager any more. Which it did before Posted Image

Funny the old beta Origin actually played the demo, when the new 8.5 was launched....nope. No ME3 and no demo. Guess I'm spending the weekend on ME2 agin.... Posted Image

Anti-virus turned off, new video drivers installed, firewall and microsoft secure off, clean windows 7. Help!

[*]Reinstalling the old drivers now.

Thanks, that solved it for me. I usually run 6048x1080 eyefinity. Bit of a pain having to switch it off, nevermind not being able to run this with eyefinity.

But hey, it works the old fasioned way. Thanks Oaquasis

After installing the game and pressing play, my computer blue screened and restarted.  When I tried to load the game again all I receved was the "has stopped working error."  I assumed that a file got corrupted, so I uninstalled me3 and deleted the associated "My documents" file, I also restarted the computer.  Re-installing the game did nothing and I received the same error.

I tried the posted fix by replacing the awc and eacore files, but that had no effect.  I have used the fix install button several times as well as runnig origin as administrator and downloading the game instead of using the dvds.  So far nothing has worked.  I have no firewall, my computer meets the game requirements and I have direct x 11.

Any ideas as to how to fix this? The game did start to launch the first time (pc crashed before actually loading) but never again afterwards and I have no idea where the corrupted file may be that is causing the problem.

EA Origins support suggestion for activation error.

Un-install with Revo, used advanced scan to clear the registry and all allied files: done.
DVD-ROM install worked after that.
Origin installed and updated easily - hurrah for progress there.

ME3 still refuses to run. Validate screen still thinks that my code belongs to another user, when it is obviously mine - the Icon of ME3 in Origin Games even shows the key code in my account.

Still no word on that from Support, they're obviously off calibrating somewhere...

I have had no problems playing until this evening where, when I try to open the game, it crashes before anything even opens. the fault module name is StackHash_6e74
but I cant find anything about it. Any suggestions would be appreciated as computers are not my strong point.

it worked fine till I reached the Citadel, had the meeting with the counsel, after that it started freezing BSODing, I managed to fix that through updating and shutting down background programs, I thought it was working then it freezes and the screen turns completely green, what the heck do I do now? I feel like screaming.

I have uninstalled and reinstalled both origin and ME3. I have used both patch files, I have looked for the 0 kb file, I have tried moving my documents. it didn't work.
