The demo had me all set to go with max passive skills and overload, level 5 drone with shock and the last few points in incinerate. Well, the armored and/or larger clusters of enemies make me really want to bring incinerate up to at least level 4 to get some blast radius. What do I cut? What do people think is an optimal build? I don't want to spec one human against shields and the other against armor either, because I like to play all unknown but the challenge.

Rank 4 fitness and alliance training, then max everything else. Works on gold.

That formula works quite well for a lot of caster classes. You sacrifice a bit of power/weapon damage and health but maximise you powers. I use the same scheme on my adepts and engineers.

I suppose on gold, (even in silver to an extent) it sorta feels like a few hits take your shields down really quickly and then there's a delay, or at least no carry over for that hit into health. So you don't get a whole lot out of that extra 25%. Makes me feel more macho though.

In the demo i maxed out fitness on my asari adept at the expense of the other passive but you do lose a lot of power damage bonuses by doing this. This time round I'm trying to find a middle ground of barrier/power damage buffs.

I'll have to try this. I'm loving my exp with engineer on MP. Way too much fun. Rocket Drones ftw Posted Image

I dropped points from the combat drone. I typically cast it right on top of enemies to distract them so the rockets are kinda useless. I put the extra points into fitness and maxed everything else I think.

Personally I've always done really well with a 3/6/6/5/6 spec and a high level Avenger.

What's the common wisdom on maxing out Chain Overload vs maxing out Overload damage to shields? And for Incinerate, radius or more damage? I'm a fan of the 3/6/6/5/6 build but haven't seen much on what evolutions to grab.

I prefer the tripple chain Overload since it's much better at crowd control. A bit more damage never felt as important or as powerful.

With incinerate, I prefer the radius increase. If an enemy dodges your incinerate and it impacts a surface near it, it will still hit. Also catching 2 or more targets with it is just gravy.

I go chain at rank 4 overload, neural shock at rank 5 (or at least I should of, my recharge speed is already quick enough), and more shield/barrier damage at rank 6.  Yeah it only jumps two targets, but I'm able to cast it every 2.3 seconds or so.  If find that enough and like the boosted damage versus big target defenses.  You can't go wrong if you switch rank 6 to chain also, if that's your preference.  Remember you can also get crowd damage from Tech Burst/Fire Explosions if you keep cool-downs near 200%, not to mention your biotic teammates' biotic bombs (and they'll be thankful you can strip shields).  Incinerate I go damage at rank 4, damage at rank 5, and armor damage at rank 6, since I'm only using for armor destruction or the kill on organics after I've already hit them with Overload.

I've started leaning more towards increasing radius and maximising the AE potential of tech and biotic powers to maximise the chances of getting biotic and tech detonations when in a decent group.

This is how I roll, but my idea of a high level avenger is 4...
