I seriously sat down and have been asking myself what it is that I can't stand about the endings.  I can deal with the relays going down(since I'd imagine that the Reaper FTL could be salvaged).  Shep can live based on your feelings on the matter... but the Normandy?!?!?

I won't bother getting into the issue of where it was going and why(since it's just silly).  For me to feel happy I think that the following was needed:

After you see the scence with the Normandy crew(if any survived) walking out of the crash cut out.  Show the Normandy crash and perhaps some encampment or something from the distance while some Alliance shuttles fly down, perhaps with some radio chatter of "We found them Admiral" or something.

How hard would this be to impliment?  Could happen after Shepards breath scene or whatever.  I think it would give come closure about what happened without needed a re-write.
