However, upon playing Mass Effect 3 through to the point where one can meet Thane in Huerta Memorial Hospital, I found the whole situation too damn depressing.
At this point, I loaded up my Mass Effect 2 savegame, broke up with Thane and proceeded through the Garrus romantic conversations. Since I had already completed the Suicide Mission, there was no way to re-visit the romantic conversational cut scene that plays before that event. However, when I loaded this savegame into Mass Effect 3 and began playing, all seemed well. Both Garrus and Thane reacted appropriately, but everyone else in the game seemed under the impression that this was still a Thane/Shepard show.
For example, when questioning Shepard about suppossed infidelity, Kaidan still mentioned "some assassin" and while it could be argued that Garrus is some assassin, that's not the correct line for a Shepard/Garrus/Kaiden love triangle. In addition, when meeting Jack, she commented on Garrus' scars rather than make the romance-specific line mocking Shepard and Garrus' sexual fetishes.
So, something had clearly gone awry.
Now, this could be explained as a bug where the import doesn't function correctly when romantic affiliations are swapped post-suicide mission or it could be a feature wherin the Thane/Garrus switchover was a more private affair not well known to the crew and thus not commented.
Can anyone clarify, corroborate or find a solution? I'm currently running a test-play to determine if this problem persists for any switched romance (in an attempt to fix the conflict via replaying the endgame of Mass Effect 2) but I'd like to know if this is just a glitch on my part or a less localized issue.
