I have a weird issue. I just received the pre-order bonuses from Origin (the N7 Warfare gear, the Argus assault rifle and the Shotgun) and after installing them I don't have sound after the opening cutscenes. The main menu is completely silent. I've tried restarting the game, same thing. Opening cutscenes play with sound, then dead-silence.

EDIT: Seems to happen only if I skip the opening cutscene. Weird though. Anyone else encountering it?

For issues like this, a from the "Ground up" is a good place to start.
Is the sound card attached properly?
Are the speakers attached properly?
Do they play sounds properly for other applications?
Are they muted?
Do you have a mute button or feature that may be inadvertently triggered?
Any issues with sound drivers? Do they need an update?
Try unplugging your microphone. (Some features will mute your speakers when it senses Microphone input to prevent feedback)

Assuming all of that is working, some things to try:
(Windows Vista/7) Turn off "Sound Enhancements".
Adjust Mass Effect 3 sound settings. I know there is a feature where it tries to keep the volume output at a rather constant level, you can set it to "None", "Low", or "High". I believe I use "High".
I've also noticed that the opening is rather silent, the rest of the game's Audio is fine/good, except when a Mass Relay cut-scene occurs, then it is really loud.  I've assumed that the opening silence is an Origin issue, as I don't hear things while the Origin notifications are present.

Try playing with those settings and see if they change anything. If you have no sound, try a Mass Relay jump and see if that works.

I also use High, and it's been working properly up to now. All the other applications are working. I'm using a laptop so it's not the sound-card.

Best I can tell, it's a bug from the DLC's, since it's been working properly up until the point I downloaded them. And I'm sure it's not something hardware related, since it's only happening at times. Well, used to happen at times. Now it's all-out broken.

I once had a laptop Audio jack break. I used to attach Speakers to the Headphone jack, and doing so would automatically divert Audio from the built-in speakers to the plugged in device. Time passed and the Jack stopped producing Audio, but the internal speakers would still switch. So, if it sensed something in the broken jack, my Audio would be mute. It also had a hardware slider to adjust volume levels, sometimes things would bump it and my Audio would go away, or get really loud...
If you Laptop is older (~1 year) you could be experiencing a similar issue, but coincidentally at the same time as a DLC download.

I would suspect Origin issues as the primary cause. Maybe a uninstall/reinstall will fix your issue (The whole game, 10 GB)? Maybe there are Origin configurations to toggle.

Which DLC was it? I had the extra weapons and From ashes installed. Then later found my pre-order codes and installed those. Neither of them triggered any such tings on My System.

Turns out somebody else had their Audio recognized as 7.1 channel, instead of the appropriate 2 channels. Try that.

Both my jacks work. The microphone and the headset. I'm using them actively in between plays. Audio wasn't affected outside ME3. That was the only problem I had. I have no hardware sliders, and I'm sure my microphone is working properly. No other applications are affected except for ME3. I had From Ashes first, and today my pre-order codes came in for the weapons and the armor. I just installed all of them. I did say Origin DLC, so I meant the pre-order bonuses. Not sure which one of them caused it.

In any event, I contacted customer support. Took them 20 minutes just to tell me to set my sound settings to default and another 20 to tell me to reinstall the game. Literally, the only words they said. The latter fixed it. Thank you for your support, Nasulprak.
