You still have a choice, simply put, youre facing a race of machines that have been around for millions of years. If anything, they know the meaning of life and all, they can survive in dark space. It wouldnt be realistic if we could defeat the reapers and have sunshine and bunnies without making sacrifices. The ending IS REALISTIC, because it STAYS TRUE TO THE SERIES PARAMETERS.

lol...stays true to the series parameters?

The series is about fighting back against an impossibility, and your choices determining the fate of the galaxy. In the end, you accept this impossibility, and your choice has no affect.

Pretty sure thst Blowing up the Mass Relays and ether destroying all synthetic life, sending the reapers away or turning every race into a cyborg has a lot of effect.

What I meant with series parameters is that, the whole fvcking series we've been told the Reapers are an unknown force that have been around for millions, billions or maybe trillions of years in the galaxy, to take out ONE reaper the had to sacrifice a lot of people, a lot of firepower was needed, just to take out one of them.

They can survive in dark space, more intelligent, they have been reapeating the same cycle millions of times, how can you win that war? It's obvious we couldnt have "won" without making serious sacrifices... if you think there couldve been sunshine and bunnies even with all that, then you crearly need to grow up.

Haveing every world totaly ravaged, raped and generaly plunderd of its inhabatants seems like a massive sacrifice to me, a sacrifice so HUGE that it unites EVERY race in the universe to join forces and systematicly obliterate the Reapers.
Its a realistically winnable war, Rachni, krogan and Geth can reproduce/create themselfs at an allarming rate, so much so that 2 of the species have threatend to take over the ME universe and by the looks of things the geth were on the brink of some type of all out attack unless they got lucky and built the mighty death ship JUst before the quarians attacked

Dont get me wrong here, im not saying the war would be over in a few weeks or anything, im saying that in the end  "Every thing vs the Reapers" would of panned out in the favor of "Everything".

I dont think they were talking about there ever being a "sunshine and Bunnies" end, you have to remember that the univers just got fuggerd by the Reapers, there was litteraly NO Sentient being that was not affected by the reapers... even the gental Elcor and  got harvested :crying: there can be no truely "happy" ending with elcor being on the verge of extinction... Infact, thats one of the reasons i went all out to ammase my fleet's and army's.
Humans are a rash, war like species, if you dissagre with that I ask you to please look at History . Hell, by the looks of things our favorite pass time is killing eachother! Bring it on Reapers! were always looking for a good fight! the same goes with the Turians and Krogan, Turians had  the most powerfull millitary and Krogan are in a near constant state of war.
Ill be god damnd if im going to sit back and Allow the Reapers to harvest species like the Elcor and Hanar!

Hey, OP, I just wanna say, reading what you had to say made me feel a lot better about the ending. You've got a point. In the end, the "good" ending (synthesis) broke the cycle but also gave humanity that future Shepard was always going on about, without killing either the Reapers (unfortunately; I still don't forgive them even if they thought they were doing what they had to) or any other synthetics. Yeah, it's not a beautifully wonderful bright shining future. But it's a future. And it's not like eezo disappeared; FTL travel is still possible, just not quite as fast as before.

Exactly. Maybe it will be a dark age, and it will take a lot of time to get back to the galaxy, but at least they broke the cycle forever and probably a new reaper race will arise at some point.

Just would like to point out in that long tirade of yours that the Protheans DID NOT make the Mass Relays. They were of ancient Catalyst race/Reaper origin. Also am I the only one pissed off on how TVTropes has become a den for overly touchy ****ing ******? They literally scrubbed the headscratchers article of ME3 to make it more 'family friendly'.

Control is probably the "happiest" ending in the game, whatever damage and destruction was caused by the war could be at least partially undone by the Reapers under Shepard's control. That being said its not a good ending, I think its just an OK ending that leaves questions I'd like answered.

@deathscythe - they made the Conduit, though, as far as we know. And Matriarch Aethyta talked about trying to get the asari to make their own mass relays, which implies it's at least technically possible.

well your middle arguement about 'can synthetics and organic like co exist' dint even play out with me........ im sure most people got them work together, or went the renegade path ' the monster evil A hole path' and killed them. but for me, legion died on ME2.... i dint have his loyalty because i dint understand a converstation i was given....

when tali and legion had a fight, i was to invested in tali to screw anything up, so i sided with her, even though there was a paragon option to do..... well i had no idea at the time. ME2 loyatly survival sysem was terrible, number happening behind the scenes. so the legion VI dint make a interesting case for why i would upload reaper code into an antire army of plain old robots.

so no, organics and synthetics can get along. AKA, the ending need to be "Splode those damn reaper basterds straight back to HELL" not "did you see the ending to the BSG reboot? that was cool, huh......"
