This game forces mages up your ass....  If you want to play without a mage you can't.

RPG's have always been about what kind of companions you want.   But this game forces mages into your party a lot.

I'm getting tired of this ****.   I've been playing rpgs for years and I ALWAYS ALWAYS have a pure melee/archer group. I NEVER have mages in my group.

THe nerve of these devs forcing mages into your group and forcing you to change your playstyle.

If you had a nice selection of 5-6 Mages (like you do Warriors) I wouldn't really care.

But having Morrigan along EVERY SINGLE PLAYTHROUGH gets a little tiring.

No it doesn't. Yes you can.

Not all of them. No it doesn't

Good, take your pirate ass elsewhere.

When are you required to have a mage? I can't think of any time they force it on you.

Try and play Baldur's Gate 2/Planescape/Icewind Dale 2 etc without a mage or cleric. See how you get along with it.

Funny, I haven't encountered any mechanic locking a mage in my party. Typically I can form my party however I choose, and even kick out companions entirely, if I don't want them.

If you're claiming the game "can't" be played without a mage in your party because it's too difficult, so far I've completed the Brecilian Forest, Orzammar, and Redcliffe with no mages in my party. The game is much more difficult without mages, but not impossible. And this is on Nightmare difficulty, by the way.

You are in no way forced to take a mage. The only time you have no choice but to have a mage in your party is during the sequence where the nameless mage joins up.

First they force a mage on you at the tower of ishal.

Then they force morrigan into your party at the bandit encounter.

Then they force wynne into your party at circle magi tower.

........ It's so ****ing dumb, it's like the game is telling me "you're **** without a mage".

Your choice of vernacular is giving me the feeling that your time in prison left you with some issues that still need resolving.

Pay for the game and maybe you would have the right to complain a bit.

So you've never played Baldur's Gate 1 & 2, Icewind Dale 1 & 2, etc? You should be complaining about the number of mages avaliable to choose from, not the fact that without a mage you'll have a hard time.

Mages are almost what define fantasy. It about time that there is a major RPG where they have some relevance.

Keep it civil. Yes, there are short sequences where you have to have a mage in your party, as you noted. Other than that, you're free to leave them at camp.

Where is this pretentious anti-piracy attitude stemming from? Do you have some sort of 6th sense allowing you to tell who did or did not purchase the game, or are you (more likely) just labelling anyone who did not enjoy the game as much as you did a pirate?

I've just never played an rpg that forces you to do something so linear.

This game is so linear at times.

Like what party based RPG's would you be talking about?

I guess in MMO's with ranged DPS it doesn't matter where it come from, arrows or magic... IMO this game does not force mages on you, it forces healing on you. And even then my "good" warrior didn't like morrigan, so I played without a mage until I found wynne. Yes it was harder, but it is Wynne's healing abilities that make the difference. If there was an infinite supply of healing pots would not be an issue. Not too many party based RPG's that normally allow you to go far without a healer...

There has to be a way to get wynne out of my party. I don't want to replace leilana, dog or alistair.

You can just kill wynne at the tower and then you dont have to take her with you on that portion. You can rid yourself of morrigan fair quick in lothering if you do the sten quest. Pretty much done with her then. I have to say I wouldnt have minded being able to roll a few custom characters to add as companions with the current set remaining to keep the story intact.

I finished the game with a dual wield warrior and basically I never needed any mages in my party, though most of the time I ended up tanking big bosses, mages just ease the game...

It's not like they're critical and crucial for Your party except for one time when You have to take a mage with You but on the other hand one time in the game You have to take a warrior instead...

personally i assume if the game sticks an npc in my group for a small section its because they are supposed to be relevant and involved in that part of the story.

this is a story driven rpg after all, and some of the npc characters have a role to play in the story.

i dont see it as an issue, but more of how its supposed to be.

You don't need a sixth sense.  Your registered games are listed in your profile.

The problem is I need a healer for redcliffe in order to save all the militia folk.  Achieving that reward is IMPOSSIBLe without a healer.  By the time you get down to the 2nd half of the redcliffe battle someone is always at 1% life.  That was the only time I wanted to use wynne.

I'm thinking I could kill wynne but then maybe by the time I'm done with circle magi tower, morrigan will be eligible for the next level and I could give her the heal spell.

I am not sure if it's bugged.  But all the people that are supposed to fight with the militia end up going to the knights when the battle starts.

That would certainly make a difference.  And have not been able to get Morrigan to come even close to healing as good as Wynne.  Since you get Morrigan at about level 7, it's like having 7-9 wasted feats, if you want a healer...  You can make her a secondary healer, but I think Wynne, or your main, for top notch healing.
